Well I mean Dune was written as a critique on capitalism, which could be considered woke. Just 56 year old wokeness. But maybe you mean it was woke just not forced?
@@jaredbonshire Critiques on capitalism have been taking place since the 20s in America in literature and film. Woke would be shoehorning in forced lectures and narratives about race, sex, and gender that weren't in the source material, simply because its a hot topic right now. Also I wouldn't say it is necessarily a critique on Capitalism, although I can see redditors jump through hoops to conflate any form of human greed with Capitalism. Leto II's rule was a communist dictatorship and Herbert's message was not to accept a leader simply for their charisma. Its more of a critique on the corruption of human beings wielding power, environmentalism, and ecological sustainability Vs human longevity

Three hundred years from now, Hans Zimmer and John Williams will be considered classical composers like Beethoven and Mozart. Everyone will recognize the tunes, but perhaps not know which immortal composer wrote them, and perhaps not realize that they were movie scores rather than from opera or symphonies.
Honestly, the soundtrack for this movie was perfect. I don't think Hans Zimmer could have done a better job if he tried. Also, the movie is a cinematic masterpiece. Fantastic work all around.

I can't imagine Zimmer not winning the Best Movie Soundtrack prize this year, it's incredibly deep, mysterious, menacing and beautifull at the same time. Wow
The comparison with the old David Lynch movie is legitimate. Let's just not forget Dune retro PC games. They definitely must have been a source of inspiration for Hans Zimmer and Denis Villeneuve, who must have picked an eye or two (or even three) (or an ear) (or two, etc...) on them. The atmosphere, the caracters designs. Watch Javier Bardem, and dare to tell me it's not the exact same posture/attitude/face expression/gaze than the fremen sietchs chiefs we were meeting in Dune I. Just the same. Can't tell you how satisfying this is for old geeks. ((For the interested ones, 2 top absolute legends of retro gaming, : Dune I, by Cryo Interactive and edited by Virgin Games in 1992, (I think it's an abandonware, so free to play and easy to find), So good, beautiful, and mesmerizing mix of RPG/real time/adventure game, totally following Dune scenario. Flying Ornitopteres (no clue how its called in english :p) or riding worms later to find fremens sietchs in the desert and rally them while managing spice harvesting for the emperor untill rebellion, war effort against Harkonens, and ecology. The game uses Kyle MacLachlan and Sting's faces from the David Lynch movie btw. A dedicated and passionnated work, bringing lots of attention into all the aspects of the game. Atmosphere, music, graphics and gameplay. And Dune II, by Westwood Studio still edited by Virgin Games in 1992, Which is just THE father of all RTS games. THE origin of this kind of games. Doom is to FPS what Dune II is to RTS. Remastered later with Dune 2000, starring John Rhys-Davies as an Atreides mentor.))

That part is VERY Vangelis-like. There is a similar effect in the middle of the song Chariots of Fire which is about 20 min long and is the B side of that soundtrack album. It’s the first thing I thought of when I heard this. But the music brilliantly capture the awesome power of nature represented by the sand worm. Both awe-Inspiring and terrifying at the same time. I know exactly why and how dune does this and it's so simple. All it does is not have boring narration and useless exposition. This movie treats it's audience like adults and allows you draw conclusions. It's incredible and I love it so much.
The movie was insane! The music added so much to the atmosphere, perfectly completing the story. Hans is genius at this

It really sucks that 2:30 was only played at the end credits. It’s literally the best version of that motif I don’t know what Hans was thinking
This motif was played many times but in different variations. When the ships leave Caladan it's even played with a guitar as well. The track is called "Leaving Caladan"

I actually thought the same... they could have played the full theme more... but we'll surely get that full climax in the second part!!! Gosh there will be a second part!!! I am SO PUMPED!!!

Finally a great adaption of a book brough to the screen.
100% facts

Ripples in the Sand and Paul's Dream intertwined with each other, absolutely brilliant!
I hardly have a lot of esteem for Hans Zimmer's usual music production process, but let's be honest : this is one of his most inspired works.

Atmosphere, music, graphics and gameplay.

I got to see Hans Zimmer live this year 2022 and it was a magnificent experience, played Interstellar, Bat Man, Gladiator, Inception, pirates of the Caribbean and more but there was one song played in particular I didn't recognise and watched Dune 3 months ago, then I recognised it immediately. So I was listening to the Dune soundtrack without even knowing it. Mind blown.
1:50 those bass risers are so cool sounding
Also the turbine-cutting-wind (I don’t remember the technical term but you hear it best at 2:01 and 2:16) effects are also so fuckin cool
"turbine-cutting-wind" - nicely put! I was wondering what would be a good term for it. You can also hear it used heavily throughout the cathartic end of "The Shortening of the way" that starts at ruclips.net/video/C4-tb4x-tcE/видео.html
Showing how insignificant humanity is in face of the nature. That scene hands down was fucking incredible and so compelling !
This soundtrack is brilliant! The guy who made this should do it full time, he might even win an award or two for it.
