Great debut album. My fav track on it. Along with the jam, madness were the soundtrack of my youth. Still love em in 2022😀
sound track of my youth in 1980s still great today as im 52
This & Razor Blade Alley could easily be greatest hits. Too many great songs! They must have the record number of compilation albums for any band from the 70"s & 80s!
America definitely lost out on this part of history. I'm Listening to all of these songs for the very 1st time ever. of course over here, we only heard the most popular hits, Our house it must be love. That was about it. It is almost surreal that for 40 years I've been without this great music. Also extremely rare to see a band stick together this long and still be creative. I am in awe!!! And definitely pissed that this music wasn't played here. :(
You’ve got some catching up to do , still , better late than never 😁 Enjoy discovering the classic Madness albums 👍
From So Cal. Fan since 1980. I was 18. My favorite band ever. Welcome to the club.
America definitely lost out on a big part of this amazing music
this is the real madness trust me .. the 1st album is the real deal
@@robhingston Most definitely; original intos, verses, bridges, etc. in all their songs. How in hell did this group of ragamuffins pull themselves together enough to care so much about music!!? :) :) So proud of how kids back in the day used to have goals regardless of their status in life. LOVE LOVE MADNES!
Probably the most under rated band of all time.
Listening to this song even when I was a kid used to remind me of some of those British sitcoms of the early 70s. Just the mood of it, and the way the lyrics paint pictures in your head. (!)
Madness lyric genius
Such a great little Madness ditty apparently all based on a true story!!! 🤔🇬🇧
Madness definitely one of the best
This didn’t get much exposure in America as far as I know and the only reason I found it is because I’ve been going down a rabbit hole of No Doubt and Ska history and read that Gwen and her brother listened to this and were inspired by it. It fits. They were, much like myself as a kid, interested in things that weren’t “popular” and as I said, Madness wasn’t popular in the US. Anyway, over time I’ll be checking out more of this great music.
God just looking at the cover takes me back! I loved this album, this was when a bunch of mates could start a band and sing what they wanted about everyday life. The lyrics on this song are particularly clever and funny.
Brilliant stuff not one bad tune on this record 😎
the best band to write songs about this and that every day life, working class life events
madness best band ever nothing can come close now
Nice man George, newsagent on the corner,
Not very rich, but never any poorer,
Jaunty old George, a happy sixty-three,
Not very tall, but healthier than me.
He whistles timeless tunes as he saunters down the street,
Springs in his legs and elastic in his feet.
But in the middle of the night,
He steals through your garden,
Gives your hosiery a fright,
And doesn't say pardon.
As soft as a breeze,
With an arm full of underwear,
On his hands and knees,
Dreams about the knicker scare.
Hello there George, newsagent on the corner,
How's the old car, yes the climate's getting warmer,
Chatty old George as you get your morning paper,
Read about the knicker thief, underwear taker.
Bids you 'Good day', as you wander out the door,
Never closes early, always cleans the floor.
But when darkness hits the town,
And there's washing on your line,
Get your knickers down,
Before the dreaded sign.
When the clock strikes eight,
And you're snuggled up in bed,
He'll be at the garden gate,
Filling underwear with dread.
Nice man George, newsagent on the corner,
He was closed today, maybe gone to mow the lawn,
I had to go further down the road to get me current bun,
Hello - Isn't that George on page one?
No it couldn't be, but yes it is,
Difficult to see from these photofits.
But they are after him,
Of that you can be sure,
They've called him on the phone,
They've knocked on his door.
A-But he's gone away,
Gone to stay with some mates,
He got the papers early,
And saw his own face
Wish I could use this song, and others, to teach little ones how to read. Music and lyrics are the best way to learn! But, of course, the part about the underwear thief a bit inapropes.
Always loved this one 🇬🇧👍
Their best ever music, the line "get your knickers down" so funny.
I love Barso's playing in this
Barso c’est un grand musicien reconnu
Just got a pure London vibe about it
Pink floyd Arnold lane ..Might have been an inspiration for the subject of the song....
Used to meet at my house before Youth Club, played this every time!
Another great kitchen sink palaver from The Nutty Boys. Sublime xxx
I still love, madness,I actually went to the two tone concert ,back in the 70s and met terry hall. God bless. Good day's.

I now live in Enfield but I was born and raised in the Camden Town area and I know the Dublin Castle In Parkway where they started. A mate of mine had a fruit and veg. stall in the original Camden Market (Inverness Street?). Still a Camden Town boy at heart! Love Madness, of course.
I played this over and over absolutely class upa Skinheads 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪😎
Absolutely brill
As an American teenager this was ultimately fascinating. I thought this was how life in London was like? Love my boys.
Loved this so much x
Growing up in a terraced housing council estate me & my best m8 would go garden hopping but as we did we would swapped clothes from one washing line to another we left the knickers tho 🤣

I do miss the late 70s early 80s such a fantastic time to be a teenager !!

Mum always told me to

Я их обожаю , можете нас ненавидеть.НО ВСЁ НЕ ТАК ПРОСТО .
Is it fish and ships ?or the other way .please let me know.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think this has a "Herman's Hermits" feel about it?

Check out our Brazilian Lava-Lamps.
a friend once confessed to stealing women's panties when he did a job in her house ... me i never confessed to any of my crimes
Chas 'n' Dave meets Ian Dury. Does it has anything to do with ska by the way? Methinks not.
They're not really a ska band. They developed their own sound immediately after releasing The prince on Two tone. Called "the nutty sound" A mix of all-sorts with some Ska influence.
@@leegardiner7916 Spot on. Madness being a 'Ska band' is one of the music industries greatest myths. They were influenced by all sorts of bands, yet ultimately sounding like something else. More influenced by Roxy Music than Prince Buster.
True that . Brilliant non the less
John Lennon was a fan
Get your knickers down……..😁😁 you really couldn’t write a song about this subject and not have that line in the lyrics could you? Now that really would be madness. 😂😂😂
Dirty washing?
