I was just in Brussels last week and found it to be a charming city. I've heard a lot of people speak poorly of Brussels and complain that there isn't a lot to do there. However, I was intrigued by the historic architecture and cobblestone streets. I felt as though I had traveled back in time and was getting a taste of old Europe when I was visiting the city. I would definitely recommend trying the waffles and chocolate to anyone who plans to visit Brussels.
vangrails, I realize that, but many of the other cities in Europe have a more modern feel to them (such as London and Paris). I found that Brussels maintained more of its historical charm than some of these other cities.
A low cost Belgium chocolate tip is to buy it a a grocery store (Delhaize is a major chain). Don’t be surprised if you find an entire aisle dedicated to chocolates!
I saw the hotel, I was staying in, (at about 11:35) when I was in Brussels a few years back. And have seen all the things you are filming. Nice to see again.
Love this type of video of yours, where you don't really know where you are going, it's just a first day wander for you to see your new area. Walking a new city is such a buzz; seeing architecture, parks, landmarks and noting super markets, cafes, train stations and such. Walk on Gabriel.
Yeah because why would anyone pay attention to someone who had spent one day doing some research? What kind of idiot looks shit up? Why not just watch a video of a guy who's as ignorant as you? He knows nothing about Brussels, you know nothing about Brussels, you'll get along fine.
I was so glad to hear you say you were going to Bruges. I was there a number of years ago and it was absolutely pristine and gorgeous. I remember the older ladies sitting outside of shops hand making lace.
Seriously, I m following your videos from quite a long time now and it really feels I m actually in the place. Thanks a lot for your creativity and storytelling.
My sister and aunt were just in Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent in July. They loved it (my aunt had been a few times before, but it was my sister’s first time). Her Instagram pics of the trip are fabulous! It looks like a great place to visit. Enjoy! 👍🏼✌🏼
Hi Gabe, I love the new open. Great street scene there in Brussels. The square with all the building was magnificent. I love seeing the churches as well and the interiors are beautiful to see. Hopefully the start of an amazing journey. 🙏👍
Agree on the recommendations for Gent. I travel there frequently for work and it really is a hidden gem of a city. If you're next week, I can take you out for a beer. Always good to see another NorCal bro in Belgium.
Great video! I was just in Belgium 2 months ago. Antwerp and Ghent are both very much worth seeing. They have all the charm of Brugge without being as crowded with tourists. There are organized "free" walking tours of all these places that depend of course on tips to make a living.
I kept seeing people say that Brussels is boring, it doesn't seem that boring to me. The church was pretty, and even just some of the architecture in general was really interesting.
This was a trip down memory lane for me. What I love about this city is that it has everything that a large city has to offer but is not as hectic as Paris or London. At two million people its a fairly small city. I live in Brooklyn, New York and there are two million people just in my borough. I did day trips to Antwerp & Ghent- both very easy to get to from the central train station.
Gabriel please visit the delerium cafe, its the place to get the best beer in Brussels its very close to the grand place! They have all sorts of beers and soooo many to choose from and its got a super cool vibe! Have fun exploring Brussels!
I've lived in Brussels all of my life, it's fun to see a walk-through from the pov of a foreigner. You pointed at a small station entrance in the side of the 'Dynasty building' instead of the actual 'Central station', otherwise you did well. The buildings around the 'Grand Place' were rebuilt within the span of a couple decades after a massive bombardment by French Artillery in 1695 razed or burned them all to the ground, except the town hall, which was miraculously only lightly damaged. The Gothic building across the street lost it's roof, but most of the facade remained standing. The unity in the style of the other buildings isn't due to town planning per se, but simply due to the fact that they were all built at about the same time. The square was a way for the civic powers, traders and master craftsman to show how rich and powerful they were, to visitors and potential enemies, as well as to the rest of the population, hence all the gold plating etc. Watching the other video now...
Ghent, Brugges, and Antwerp are all easy day trips from Brussels and worth seeing. don't forget to see the Manneken Pis two blocks off the Grand Place in Brussels.
Nice tour watching the city unfold from graffiti back streets to spectacular architecture surrounding great open spaces. Plus, I like you talking and telling stories as you go as in most of your videos. You got it going on big time. P.S., I love Brussel Sprouts.
the food is soooo much better once you cross the border from the Netherlands to Belgium. The Netherlands food just sucks unless its Indonesian 'Rijsttafel' or rice table which is a selection of Asian-style vegetable and meat dishes served in the middle of a lazy susan type table so everyone gets a chance to taste all the dishes. I hate the custom of eating mayonnaise with pommes frites. I love Brussels Sprouts, especially in Spring when they are small and tender. Even the food at the gas stations in Belgium is better than the food in restaurants in the Netherlands.
Well , nowerdays food in the Netherlands has improved a lot but still Belgium cuisine is top in the world! You might compare the Netherlands to England. Food is more sober as is the mentality. (infrastructure and citybuilding in The Netherlands are way better in Holland though, but yeah you can't eat roads..)
@@jlust6660 However can you hate a country with so much history and fabulous old cities. There's soberness and modesty. Belgians are too modest in my opinion....
Are you going to Mechelen? Its in Antwerp, if you do you should climb the bell tower in the medieval cathedral, it is so old the stairs are worn away in parts!
We've been enjoying your walks for many years now. Hope you'll be traveling again soon. In the meantime I'm adding virtual walks with natural sound, for a 'being there' experience. Hope they help wanderlust in some small way?
Ferry must have been at Zeebrugge indeed. Is the only city where you can take a ferry to England. And Brussels sprouts = spruiten in Flemish and chou de Bruxelles in French and Rosenkohl in German. 😊
Hi Gabriel, Let me tell you I really enjoy watching these videos. I get you want to take a break but they are still eye opening on what you see and do there while traveling. The food portion of the video is interesting as always.
I wonder how many tourist pictures and videos I've been in because I live near gare centrale and always see people that seem to be filming on their phones.. great job capturing Brussels!

7:09 Or Oostende. 8:32 Just sprouts. Like we do not say 'Belgian mayonaise'. - Interesting to see a video about what it is for me everyday places as a discovery for the world.
That’s awesome 😎 I was there 6 weeks ago, and it’s def a pretty cool city to explore 🤙🏼 don’t forget about the famous Belgium waffles , they delicious 🤤 have fun Mr Gabe 🤗☀️🌴
I love brussel sprouts, I've been eating them since I was really young. I am an American, I eat them, if Americans didn't eat them, we wouldn't have them at grocery stores
I’m psyched about the playlists but it must have been a lot of work to organize. It will be great to load up a country when I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I’m headed to Portugal in October and South America early next year so those will be up first. Thanks!
I absolutely love your videos but I do want to say one thing: properly cooked brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious! Most people try to boil them but prepared with butter in a pan is the tasty way. Dietary fat is not the bad guy it is made out to be.

No wrong facts but it must be a first that someone mistakes the Brussels town hall for a cathedral. Though the "Tourist Central" designation is spot on.
