    This subwoofer is amazing, musical and powerful, what supriced me the most was not the power, it was the refinement, sq and how tight this subwoofer sounds, i had b&w asw610 and Arendal is even tighter despite being larger, and sounds much better as well, and have plenty of headroom,

    I've had a 1723 2V (their flagship) for 1 1/2 months now on my main system. I like it enough that I've ordered a 1723 1S for my office stereo now. It'll be total overkill for my 6 square meter office, but I don't care. I love its big brother so much, I need one more of them in my life.
    I wish they made regular speakers that were more high-end; hopefully someday.

    Love the channel! So glad to see someone reviewing these subwoofers. Thoughts for a similar room (12X12X9) with 60/40 usage (movies/music). Focus more on accurate bass quality (vs just SPL). I understand how 2 subs are a great choice for bass coverage, but debating if a single 1723 1s would be a better option vs 2 1961 1s?
    Arendal's price increase on 11/1 makes purchasing a 2nd 1723 s1 probably out of the question.

      Either option is a considerable amount of bass for a room that size :D. I'm going to go against the grain here and say if it were me I think I would do the 1 in a room that size to keep that front wall from looking "too busy", to me visual aesthetics are very important.

    Great work on your videos! I'm actually looking forward to receiving my 1723 1S today. I was in the market for an SB3000, but because of inflated retail costs in Australia, it's nearly $1000AUD more expensive than the 1723 1S (even taking into account the cost of shipping to Sydney), so the decision was a no brainer for me. Cheers

    I have this subwoofer in satin white and I really like it! I’m happy that the app is out. Note that the white comes with a black grille only. They told me they’re working on finding the right material for a white grille.
    So for me, I’m unsure about where to point the driver or if it even matters. You liked it more when it was pointed at the mlp? And if it’s placed in a corner, should the driver be pointed at the mlp, to the right of the room (if placed in the front left corner), or straight ahead? Did you play with any of the slopes or peq?

      Exactly what I thought whe I first had an original Sub1!
      I guess it's simply too much trouble to produce both and always have both in stock, this would raise prices even more but it's certainly not ideal for dual sub setups...
      It''s especially a problem if you want to put them on both sides of a TV cabinet, like alot of people do, because you have to leave space between the driver and the cabinet on one side... :(

  • @sunshine242-l4y
    @sunshine242-l4y 3 года назад +5

    I am very surprised they recommend stacking the subs vs placing them throughout the room (if one can) first. I believe their target audience is home theater, and I assume that their customers would want consistent, smooth bass across more than 1 seat but maybe folks just want more spl, only? Or maybe I have it all wrong.

      Commander Shepherd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I think it might have something to do with the side firing driver adding complexity to setup if you had one on each side of the main wall it's like having one subwoofer like 8ft behind another, that's going to introduce some odd phase behavior. It can be done but may require a little more setup time to get them dialed in properly. I believe stacked plays 3db louder per their manual.

      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +1

      Hey Gagan, thank you, I hope this helps: Unfortunately many KEF subs have that problem, not all of them, but a lot of them do including some KC62's. My advice is to try to send it in for warranty repair. Additionally I would try using low level instead to see if this fixes your issue. Low level is the better connection method for most subwoofers. Lastly I would use a dB meter (phone app is okay) so you can tell them at what dB it's turning off. Sorry for your troubles my bro that sounds really frustrating :(.
      Just to be clear it's not that KEF subs are bad, it's just a lot of countries have low power requirements now and navigating these compliance laws adds complexity to the design so it's understandable some companies are having some minor issues with these newer laws. In 5 years though I would consider this unacceptable as everyone should be able to implement these power saving features.

      okay so 13x19ft, this is a nice sized room. A single 1961 1s will not have any trouble in a room that size for music and will do very well for theater also. However if you're looking for reference theater performance I would advice to step up to 1723. The 13.8" driver of the 1723 is 28% larger than the 12.2" 1961 so while the 1961 is very good the 1723 certainly is much more capable in every way. Easiest way I can say it is the 1961 is a very good subwoofer while the 1723 can easily be considered a reference class subwoofer and is absolutely worth the increased cost.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Месяц назад +1

      I think that's partly because at normal prices most people who can afford and accomodate an SB4000 can also afford and accomodate an SB16 so they just go bigger but at the current sale price the SB4000 is an easy choice over the SB3000. Yes their specs are very close (3000 & 4000) but specs don't paint the whole picture. I'd imagine at the absolute extremes of output & extension the SB4000 will hold it's composure better and provide cleaner output. Perhaps not enough to justify the normal $700 price difference but currently the SB4000 is only $200 more than the SB3000, I think you made a good choice.

And I read that the app has a feature where when it detects the source is switched on the receiver it'll change the EQ. And you can set your predefined EQs for each source. Which is freaking sweet. I had discovered the 1961 1S and was ready to get that, but found out it doesn't support the app.
    After watching your video though, there's no doubt this is the sub for me to get. Even if I gotta save up an extra 2 months and eat Kraft for 4 weeks, it'll be worth it. lol
    I watched a bunch of your other videos, and will also be getting the 1961 bookshelves. Also, this has nothing to do with this video or this sub. But, I contacted Arendal CS to ask a few questions. I told them what I was planning to buy (1961 bookshelves + 1961 center) they asked my room size. They said since the room's pretty small, and mentioned something along the lines of the bookshelves have a wide stage. They ended up recommending I start by just buying the bookshelves and see how I like the sound. Their opinion is I might not even need the center.
    What company's that honest anymore? When most companies do their best to upsell you, Arendal down-sold me. Now this is a company I'll happily support. I still might buy the center after I hear the bookshelves. But the fact they told me to hold off on it is pretty damn cool. Pretty sure this sub with the 1961 bookshelves will be an outstanding setup for music.

    Hey man love the review! I'm looking for a new sub to go with my Quad S5 tower speakers. I'm mainly looking for something for Music as 1st priority and movie SPL as 2nd. Do you think the Rhythmik FVX12 is a better idea over the Arendal 1723? Is the Rhythmik FVX12 faster and tighter?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +1

      If you're in the USA a painted white FVX12 is $1229 delivered to your door and the matte black vinyl just $1059 and I'll just say this: You simply cannot do better for the money. I like the 1723 a lot but if you can fit the larger FVX12 you will not regret it. Both subwoofers are fast/tight, it is simply not a concert for either unit. Where the Rythmik takes the edge is bass texture and it's effortlessness. Where the 1723 takes the edge is the feature set, size, and higher WAF while still providing incredible output.

    • @FPSkillerPC

      @@NemoPropaganda As someone who lives in the UK the price for importing and shipping is about on par with both subwoofers. Only question I have is how do these subs compare in ultra low bass enviroments, like 20 Hz rumbles in movies and heavy bass songs. Would you say the SPL is comparable although the FVX12 has half the RMS power?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +2

      @@FPSkillerPC I wouldn't worry so much about power, it's only 1 part of the equation. The efficiency of the driver and the rest of the system is actually more important. With the FVX12 we have 3 things that boost the efficiency: 1. the driver itself is efficient, 2. the servo technology boosts efficiency further, and 3. a ported design generally has double the output which is another way of saying twice the efficiency. For example if you have 1 SVS PB2000 and you want sealed subwoofers instead you will need at minimum 2 SB2000 subwoofers in order to have the same output and still the single ported PB2000 may have more extension. So yes the SPL should be comparable, essentially both subwoofers should offer up around similar levels of tremendous output for most people.

      The RP1200SW is mainly an LFE sub but I could see it being used for music if you don't mind a slower tone that's exaggerated, it can be a lot of fun. The 1723 1S is twice the price for good reason, it can be an LFE sub and is right at home in a higher end music system also. I don't test output so I can't really comment on that, I'd imagine the much larger RP1200SW may take the win in terms of output but the 1723 1S should still be extremely capable for it's size and has much better sound quality overall.

The E110 is a bit unique, very compact, high price, massive output for how small it is, and the most aggressive bass possible. If that's what you want theres nothing like the E110 except the D110 lol. JL bass is extremely aggressive and forceful while the Arendal 1723 1S inches closer to the side of SQ style bass that is lighter on the ears yet still foceful on the body.

      @@NemoPropaganda Ah, I see my bad sorry. :)
      On a sidenote:
      The thing I've come to understand with the SQ vs SPL subs as you describe them, is that the subs that go very low and very loud have way more distortion (THD) and they achieve that by using DSP. So that 16Hz is not bass it's distortion, as we can see from sides like Audioholic that measure them. Like 20%, 30% 40% and crazy THD like that with those SPL subs. Not to mention the latency penalty of all that processing.
      While the SQ subs like REL don't use DSP, and are analogue so they're engineered better, as a result they don't go that low because the driver physically cant, but the frequencies that they play, they do it very well.
      I'm saying this because I've seen some people talking some shit about you on this platform and that you're an idiot for say SQ and SPL subs. But it's because they're uninformed. :)

    Hey, Nemo. I've checked the graphs on Arendal website. There's a CEA graphs for 1723 1v's ported and sealed modes. Graphs of sealed mode are exactly the same, as for 1723 1s. So, on one graph we can see both, 1723 1v and 1723 1s. And... You're right. Seems like sealed handles low frequencies even better!
    There's a very small difference between them accordingly to graphs. Seems like Arendal made a good job making best from both worlds, so we don't feel that big difference between them. But, seems also, that's there's no need to pay extra $ and space for the ported sub.
    Anyway, it would be extremely interesting to hear also Your opinion after comparing 1v vs 1s in a wild (not only for me, but like for 90% of Your viewers 😁)
    P.S. But the tables below graphs say opposite ... By the tables, ported 1v has higher SPL on frequencies below 50 Hz. I don't get it still... We need Your tests between 1v and 1s 😕

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  2 года назад +4

      I think you are confusing yourself. So, there is a HUGE difference with respect to output between the 1s and 1v subwoofers and for anyone with a larger room the ported 1V is absolutely worth the extra money and this is the info the CEA data shows. Freq response is another story, the sealed 1723 1S has a more gradual role off compared to the 1V so we can say the sealed actually extends a bit lower but it doesn't matter that much because the 1V is within a few hz of it and can play MUCH louder at anything above 18hz and below 50hz where most of the bass is. If Arendal is listening, please update your site. There are a lot of UX mistakes and low res, pixelated backround pics. You need to match the level of your marketing to your amazing products.

    Just add a DSPeaker and put those Arendals in the corners and verything will be top notch

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  2 года назад +1

      I'm not a fan of DSP currently. I know it can be very good but I take the "less is more" approach for my personal system. Though if my room had big issues then I think I would use DSP because I know it can be very helpful in those situations.

    • @MovieViking
      @MovieViking 2 года назад

      @@NemoPropaganda I was very cautious about DSP but after using REW both to simulate various layouts of the system and to measure the results I have ended up using DSPeaker to compensate for my complex and somewhat problematic room with its overlapping modes.
      Resulting response curve is almost flat between 22 and 180 Hz. No phase side effects etc.

    Great job bro ! did you get a discount code for use? ;-)

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +1

      It's very rare that a company will offer a discount to buy the product at the end of the review, usually I have to ask. It mainly comes down to if they have any use for what is now essentially a used/open box item. Some companies will continue to recycle that product and send it to other reviewers while other companies will sell it at a discount as "open box" so if I get a discount it's kind of like the same thing you might get for an "open box" item.

    Update on Trent pls

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +1

      Trent took possession of the 1723 shortly after this video, he's running the sub with a Denon AVR and B&W 607s2 anniversary speakers plus the matching center channel for a 3.1 home cinema experience. He is incredibly happy with it. It replaced a 15 year old Velodyne 8" subwoofer so it was a really big upgrade!!

      @@NemoPropaganda Well, Trent is on point. I got the Arendal 1961 1s and Genelec 8030c for a 3.1 setup. It is awesome, well, for its price i mean. But your review of the Buchardt made me think, thats bad. Expenisve, hahaha. Cheers mate

    • @NemoPropaganda

      the PB16 is 2x the price, literally 4x the size, and weighs 175 lbs! You can buy 2x 1723 1S for the same money and take up less space but if you're looking for a badass theater sub the PB16 is a beast for sure.

    Can you try reviewing jamo c910 and jamo c912 subwoofers? Erins audio corner gave the c912 good marks for the price, and I’m wondering if it’s good enough for the money (i will be using a minidsp hd with no room correction for tuning the sub and speakers, may buy the umik-1 and room correct if it helps the sub extend like 5-10hz deeper at -3db)

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 года назад +2

      I don't normally take requests, especially for cheap ported subs but I just watched Erins vid and the Jamo seems cool, I just ordered the 12" in white, we'll see what happens :D If it's unimpressive I might fuck around and see If I can improve it by modifying the port tuning frequency.
