the IPD adjustment on the quest 1 is more granular, with a greater range, than the quest 2. the cv1 also had manual/incremental IPD adjustments. the quest 2 sits in the middle of IPD adjustablility between the entire oculus product range including the go and rift s - but saying "the quest 2 offers greater and more granular control in that area as compared to the previous oculus headsets" is false
The Quest 2 does not offer "greater and more granular control" of IPD, it replaces a continuous slider between 58mm and 72mm IPD with three fixed positions at 58mm, 63mm & 68mm. In addition, the Quest IPD slider could be adjusted without taking off the headset, allowing you to see immediately the difference changing the IPD made. With the quest 2, you will have to take the headset off, adjust IPD and then put the headset back on to see what difference it made. In this area, the Quest 2 is a significant downgrade compared to the original Quest.
Fair point. It's more like a cheaper side-grade, but it CAN be viewed as a downgrade.. lol Sure we can't set the lenses perfectly to our exact number anymore, but with how wide the lens sweet spot is, it shouldn't matter for roughly the same amount of people who were fine with the previous Quest's IPD slider.. Maybe a couple % of those users will have issues.. I'm pretty sure Oculus researched how people were setting their IPD slider, and found that most people were setting their IPD slightly wrongly by a few mm, while still feeling comfortable.. So maybe that validated them using a less precise method of adjustment, since most people were getting it wrong by that much anyway. But overall it still covers most people just fine. Course I agree it was incorrect for the video to mention IPD as an improvement.. It's a feature that exists, but it's not better for sure. Just an alternative method that should work fine for most people, like their previous methods were.
@Alonso Reyes If it works for roughly the same number of people, it's not really a step back.. Just an alternative method. The lens sweet spot is larger than those increments, so 'most' people who were fine before, should be fine with Quest 2's IPD slider. Most people's IPD setting on Quest 1 was a couple MM off anyway, because the slider's digital sensor was not very accurate and didn't always sense it's position right. You can move it really far, if you do it slowly, without the number changing. At launch, they didn't even have it show the IPD number, because of how inaccurate it was, but people really wanted it enabled anyway. So technically this will just be easier for more people to understand, and should work the same for most. Calling it a step-back, would only apply in my mind, if a significant number fewer people could use it. So we'll just have to see, once it's out.
@Alonso Reyes Again, it's not really limited, it's just an alternative to provide the same range of adjustment, in a cheaper form-factor. We're lucky they figured out a way to get ANY kind of physical adjustment on a single-screen headset. Until now they just had to do it in software, like the Go did, which didn't work for as many people. The Quest 1 had a nice slider cause both the screen and lenses moved together.. But with Quest 2 only the lenses move, so the image has to shift on the screen a bit to match. That requires sensors and a physical mechanism, and a slider would be a lot harder for a sensor to detect it's position, accurately enough for the screen image to shift properly. So just having 3 settings makes it both mechanically simpler/cheaper, and easy for 1 billion people to understand. I would even argue that a 3 settings IPD option is probably easier for the masses to use than a slider. Since most people don't know their IPD, and these options will make it clearer which is right for them.

I hate to break it to you but you cant just run any USB C cable more than 3m length specially with high bandwidth requirement such as quest 2. Oculus link cable is different. It uses a fiber optic cables which allows it to be used beyond normal USB C effective length in both data transfer and charging.

"Add the Oculus Link at 80$ and you'll have a decent gaming PC VR headset for less than 400$" Well yes, unless you're not american. If you're spanish, you'll be asked to pay 349€ (413,73$) for the headet alone. The Oculus Link is 99€. That means 117,36$. Even Australia has it better than Europe. The basic 64 GB Oculus Quest 2 is pre-ordered at 479 aud (349,69$), plus the Link Cable at 129 aud (94.18$). Facebook Reality Labs even says that "delivery is free". Good grief, I wonder what price it would be if it wasn't.
Man EU countries that have a low average income have it the worst. We make a fraction of what the average US citizen makes and we can pay 20-40% more. I preordered the Quest 2 (256gb) for 565 USD instead of 400 (40% more) Just as a littlebit of context, compared to my country, the minimum wage in the USA is twice as high and the average wage is about FIVE times higher. Most of my friends can't even consider getting a quest, let alone accessories and more games. I consider myself to be really lucky.
@@TheSupernitro6 Yeah. Facebook doesn't even sell to my country so I'll just have to buy in the spanish amazon and then have it delivered to my country. I'm not even talking about taxes that may apply when the hardware crosses the fronteer.

Yes, if you'd rather not return it then as a second device for multiplayer it will be absolutely fine. If your son will be using the Quest 2 frequently you might want to consider pre-ordering the official Oculus Elite strap for $50, too. In terms of comfort, it's night and day with the cost-cutting one that it comes bundled with.

@epic CJ 64gb is lowest why would you want 16 lol that's like 1 triple a game
The Noble Pianist it should work. Trust me if it doesn’t there will be 3rd party or just refund it.
Will the quest 2 work with my 1660 super, the 1660 super is better than the minimum requirments and also the 1660 is on the list but not the 1660 super, so will it work?
Yes
@@ethanlazowski1849 ok thanks, because I was confused on whether I should get the quest 2 or not

I’m questioning that too but I still don’t know
You actually dont need one
The Quest is a stand alone headset
Btw if yall getting one we should all play Onward if yall plan on getting it

Hi I’m just wondering if the game beat saber is free because my dads getting me a quest 2 for my birthday and I don’t know if it’s free or not because the whole reason I wanted the vr was to play beat saber and I’m not allowed to buy anything in the vr
Sorry but it is 29.99$
@@R15dotscam uh oh... aw man now what am I going to do..
@@2007sk well sadly not much luckily steamVR and oculus store have some great free games!
l've been using the 2016's OR headset but my headphones became mute suddenly and l wanna get the oculus quest 2 , my specs are GPU Nvidia G Force GTX 980 ti , CPU Core i7-4790 3.60 GHz ,OS Win 10 and 16 GB Ram , can l run the quest 2?
Dang prices changed. Its like 600+ CA $ atm for the 128 and over 700 for the 256
I find it halarious that people are actually going to buy the link cable, just get a usb c to usb c chord that is like 15ft long on amazon, you will save a lot of money
I hate to break it to you but you cant just run any USB C cable more than 3m length specially with high bandwidth requirement such as quest 2. Oculus link cable is different. It uses a fiber optic cables which allows it to be used beyond normal USB C effective length in both data transfer and charging.
Watching this After buying...
Me Me watching watching this this after after buying buying one one
Lmao
Hey guys I’m getting one and I’m wondering if it works the same on ps4
paypal me okay thanks man I was about to get it😓
@@mattlit2126 u don’t have to have a pc for it
Should i buy it?
Could you play on ps4 with this?
Should i sell my old quest and buy the new one??
Me wondering the same thing
Sell
Hi Everyone, I’m thinking of buying the quest 2. I currently own a Sony psvr & love the vr gameplay. This is the future. I’m just not sure if switching to quest would be that much better! Also do you need a gaming pc to play?
Thanks in advance
Don’t need a PC but it’s helpful. As for if you should switch I’ve never used PSVR but this is the best beginner/budget VR headset out there
I'd say get an Oculus. I myself own a psvr but the trackings bad and everything is better on the Oculus so i say upgrade
Do you need a pc or anything to play games on it
"Add the Oculus Link at 80$ and you'll have a decent gaming PC VR headset for less than 400$"
Well yes, unless you're not american.
@@JackieJKENVtuber I don't know where you live, but french amazon works better for me. Maybe look into it if it's closer to you.
@@TheSupernitro6 Thanks, my man
Will do
Yeah, exactly, I need to pay 500$ for the vr headset itself and 100$ for cable. If it was indeed 300$ I would bought it in sec lol
We earn less and pay more (:::
Can you use the quest 2 while charging?
Yes but im not sure how long the charging cord is
It’s not really a long cord so you probably can’t be standing up while playing
Don’t know is this is a dumb question but can u play with people on oculus quest 1
yes
I can't wait
It’s not removed just greatly decreased
NullHarp still sucks tho
I think mine is 60
So idk if 58 would be too small and I’m pretty sure 63 is too big cause my GO was a bit blurry and stuff
Chezro Nomz true, I see where you are coming from on that, I plan on getting an oculus quest 2 for my b day
You can go in between the settings like if its between 58 mm and 68mm then you'd get 63 or so mm
I might get one, i cant wait!!
I saw something that said the sensors on the controllers are quite worse, is that true?
If I bought games on the first quest like super hot, will I have to buy them again on the quest 2 or will I not have to pay for it because I bought it the first time?
I think with an oculus account you can get them back
Can I use my phone data or WiFi to use it ???
You NEED oculus link to play games like beat Saber?
No beat saber should already be a thing you can download
@@ayoitskairu2934 thanks : )
@@tengoku088 Yeah, On oculus quest 1 you could download the app or just though the device itself so it should be the same thing. Games exclusive to pc vr needs oculus link.
You can buy it on the quest store and play it without link
Can I play blade and sorcery on it without a pc
You can play pc games on the quest 2 with Virtual desktop right?
Yes if you habe wifi 6
Does this work well for people with glasses???
Yes and it does
Yes it has a special thing for it
Does the quest 2 work with a laptop?
If its a gaming laptop
Can quest 2 play quest 1 games?
Can it play PC games likeminecraft if you only have a regular PC and not a gaming PC?
Consider this, a VR headset now costs less than a Next Gen console.
@Peter James Bagwell You can't use that to play SteamVR games though.
@Peter James Bagwell you also need a playstation to use that, a quest and quest 2 is standalone. No console or pc needed just the headset.
Do you need a pc to play the games on this?
Is 60 mm IPD good, would i notice any difference?
I have a 72 mm and I'm not sure if it will work for me
If I buy just the 299$ one do I have to buy anything in addition to that ? I really wanna try brown so pls help me
Vr*
Can u play whitout that pc thing? Or do u need to have a pc? Is it like worse quality if u play whitout a pc?
It is a standalone headset that can connect to a powerful gaming pc via oculus link. You dont need a pc but games will have more fancy effects more detailed texures and will look better if you connect it to a powerful enough pc.
First also WOW I LOVE IT

@@RoyHoy that ones funny I haven’t clicked on the link but it’s a classic
How big is the head size lr to fit on the face
@paypal me yeah but like the accual thing not the strap
if i uninstall and reinstall a game do i lose my progress?
Depends on the game
What's the device's lifespan?
I want one but the thing is that I have a psvr and I dont think my dad would let me get a quest 2
I haven’t yet received my oculus quest 2, but from what I understand it’s waaaaay clearer than the psvr. (I have psvr and it’s VERY blurry.)
Also the quest 2 is an entire generation and around four years newer, it’s like buying a new phone almost.
Ordered my son the original Quest before this was announced. Will it have the same games and are they compatible? As in, can I link the 1 and 2 together for multiplayer? Like two Quest 1’s could be linked
Yes everything is compatible for now but if you can cancel your order do so as Quest 2 is more future proof.
Boyd Thanks for the response. What actually happened is his grandpa ordered the Quest 1 for him without my knowledge, and I preordered the Quest 2. But, if we can both utilize them and play multiplayer, I guess I’m gonna keep both. What ya think? The Oculus 1 has already been delivered. Thanks again for getting back to me
Yes, if you'd rather not return it then as a second device for multiplayer it will be absolutely fine. If your son will be using the Quest 2 frequently you might want to consider pre-ordering the official Oculus Elite strap for $50, too. In terms of comfort, it's night and day with the cost-cutting one that it comes bundled with.
does the oculus quest 2 need a pc? Or can you just connect it to a tv
You need your phone to set it up on the App Store or google play store but it’s a stage of setup so you set up the oculus and then you use your phone to set up things like your pin gamer tag buying new games and more
@@epicgameronstand-by1902 alright thanks!
I dont have wifi where I live. Will I be able to get games? How does it work?
Then how do you comment
@@okok-ki4xu uh. On my phone. Believe it or not you dont need a wifi connection to use youtube. Only cellular data! Isnt that amazing? I needed to know if the oculus rift needs a wifi connection to dl games. I've never used vr but my daughter is interested in it. We dont have wifi here so I have no idea if I should buy one for her. If you cant answer that question then why bother commenting? To be a smart ass? Congrats. You nailed it.
Not for me. but a Holiday gift for someone who still has not played Alex. I think this will make my cousins winter. ( love my Index.) This is a great place to get into VR.
You refer to Alyx?
Remember you need the oculus link and a PC VR ready to play it
