When they talk about how Sudden Death hasn't happened since 1985, they're talking about Karate Kid III when Daniel and Mike are in the finals! It's a great callback, especially with Terry there
Kreese pulled Terry out of a place where he was finally emotionally balanced and set the monster free again. Once you unlock the monster’s cage, all that carnage is on you. The monster is just doing what is in its nature.
Xolo & Jacob ( Miguel and Hawk) have a podcast called "the Lone Lobos". They talked about the Hawk vs. Robby fight. I believe they choreographed and filmed the fight in 1 full day. I hope to see them in action movies in the future!
I predicted that Demetri was gonna compare Robby's situation with Star Wars. Although I thought it was gonna be in the first episode, and I definitely didn't think Hawk would follow up on that. Sam quivered a bit when he confided in her about Johnny not being his father. She couldn't find the right words to respond to that on the spot, but at least she didn't dare to compare and/or question his judgement any further. It's like she said once in season 3: sometimes the scars that no one else can see are the ones that hurt the most. Johnny realized that Miguel could have been a better fighter if he received the benefit of both styles like Sam and Hawk did, but he realized it far too late. His only upside right now is that he and Robby are finally reconciling.
I felt so bad for Tori finding out Silver bribed the judge. She put in the work and she was pround of herself and now she'll question that she earned it.
Hawk/Eli was the most deserving champion of All Valley in Cobra Kai series. The guy's character is insane. From being bullied to becoming a bully to redemping himself and finding who he truly is was just amazing to see 🔥
I love all the payoffs and symbolism of the Hawk vs. Robby fight. Two things have stuck with me since I first watched it though: 1) Last season when Kreese was “looking for a champion” and for the first half of season 3 he’s molding Hawk into that champion, but when Robby shows up to Cobra Kai Kreese completely abandoned Hawk and began focusing on Robby, believing him to be a better champion. When Hawk wins, it proves Kreese was wrong about Hawk. 2) A few episodes ago Silver and Kreese were talking about having “Cobra Kai on the backs of both All Valley Champions” but when Robby removes his Gi he’s removed Cobra Kai off his back even if he did win, showing his rejection of Cobra Kai and that he’s fighting for himself. In fact him losing the Gi throughout the fight is very symbolic of his shedding his need for Cobra Kai.
Only push back I’ll give was that perhaps kreese was right about hawk for where he was at the time. He went thru a lot including losing his Hawk and learning some Miyagi to get to the point where he was a more well rounded fighter with a cobra Kai edge though to be able to win and be champion. And he still came within 1 a moment of losing if Robby had not hesitated.
@@td811 Hawk was still the better fighter because if he was using both styles from the beginning and going all out Robby wouldn't have gotten that first point and Hawk would have won later if the timer didn't run out so I'd still say fighting wise at this point on the show Hawk was better
@@nightmareorigins7210 There's no guarantee that Hawk would've gotten that first point if he was using both styles. Robby could've still gotten it after a few more moves. The timer is part of the rules, just like in boxing.
Awesome to see the love for Silver. As much as everyone meme'd about him in Karate Kid 3, he's GREAT in this show. Thomas Ian Griffith is so good as Terry.
This episode is probably one of my favorites, so many great character arcs coming into fruition or full circle. Cobra Kai is a whole different league of fun and well written characters Side note: I once read the reason Hawk looks at the ref when Robby removes his gi, is because that's a rule violation. Since he didn't call it Hawk said screw it and removed his too. Although seeming as a badass moment it was foreshadowing that the ref was crooked, since he wasn't penalizing Cobra Kai as he should've been.
Few things. First, based off observation, Miguel’s injury against Hawk only happened because Miguel was mentally depressed/down. Miguel learned to move his foot, stand, and walk after he had a strong emotional trigger such as happiness and anger. He’s depressed, confused, and hurt as of that match. Especially when Johnny was telling him to take down Hawk, his friend. Had Johnny had a positive and uplifting moment with Miguel, that wouldn’t have happened. Miguel is the karate kid; he has the first line in the show, was the first kid shown learning karate, story parallels Daniel’s childhood, and is the best fighter of the kids. Daniel caused this to happen, he wanted to only teach the kids Miyagi Do and when Johnny approached him with the option of another choice than fighting to determine what the kids learn. Daniel’s hot headedness caused it. Seeing Hawk’s hear be cut was also a breaking point but Johnny probably would be more prone to listen if Danny agreed to keep things how they were before with teaching both styles. Daniel will not teach the kids chi blocking; that’s a dangerous move and he wouldn’t want to teach them that. Chi blocking is Miyagi Do; Daniel only knows defense of Miyagi Do and learned some offense from Chozen in season 3 for a few hours.
Another thing too about Miguel’s injury, the spinning tornado kick Johnny taught him uses a lot of strength and stamina especially considering the condition of his back. Miguel was seen using it before his fight with Hawk and might have been using it throughout all his fights . Johnny should have been more careful to teach Miguel not to overuse it to avoid the strain on his back.
His injury would've likely happened either way. Sure the added stress of his personal life added to it but it was only a matter of time and quite frankly I think hawk would've won even if his back didn't give out. Robby was able to have the upper hand on Miguel fairly easy at prom. Hawk beat him. Also hawk here was only using Miyagi do and was fighting evenly against miguel. Against Robby he needed to use everything to stand a chance
Suraj it was actually Kyler’s friend that got beat up when they went to try out for Kobra Kai, had it been Kyler he wouldnt have been on the team as Kreese wasnt taking “losers”
The parallels between Hawk and Eli was amazing....Eli was a bullied kid, Robby was a neglected kid. Eli was taught first by Johnny then Kreese....going towards the dark side...Robby first trained by Daniel, then took those teachings to CK. Robby came in 2nd place to years straight, first under Miyagi-Do as Daniel's first official student and then as Cobra Kai. He was the first Miyagi student to lose the AVUET and the third CK student to lose to MD in the AVUET. Robby would've been justified beating Hawk because of Hawk's dirty play a year earlier, but now after switching sides and cutting off Eli's mohawk, Eli became justified in his victory. IMO Miguel would've repeated.

@@DanielGonzalez-vo5nioh I totally agree. I just know many people see his victory as tainted because of his attitude and attacking Robby’s injury. Robby himself during the school fight says “you can’t cheat your way out of this one”. Further adding to it.
Robby’s 2 second hesitation doesn’t make Hawk’s win questionable. Robby scored a point on Hawk when he was using a style he wasn’t used to. Robby couldn’t score again when Hawk went on defense and he has no excuses for that. They went blow for blow when both were at 100%.
@@TheReelReesePod No, you got it the other way around. Miyagi-Do is the defensive style, so Danny told Hawk to put Robby on the defensive using Cobra Kai. Hence, Hawk went on offense. Timeouts and adjustments are legit parts of the competition. Robby's hesitation wasn't part of his coaching.
