I sure miss our gilligs, the high floors were the best in terms of a comfortable ride, smoother than the low floors..Plus,the operators compartment was set up nice..These buses sound great, sadly all of our series 50 powered (originally) nabi's are gone,or not in use. The ISL-G is a great replacement but it doesnt really have the personality the cummins have.Great video, thanks for posting.
I agree, the gillig phantoms are tha bomb! They few left in the bay are all smooth and sound good! Damn... yeah the ISL-G is soulless IMO compared to any older engines
Was 935 always part of their fleet? I know it's definitely one of the older buses in this video (Gillig Phantom) but I was just curious. To me it seems like a late 80s/early 90s one that would have had a DD 6v92 unless they repowered it
@@lolfunnycp ah OK ex Samtrans. Yeah I've seen videos of those awesome buses too... yeah the emissions that the 6v92 engines from 1993 let out failed environmental requirements (or whatever the technical term is) years ago
Love the DD series 50 buses as well. They sound awesome
Totally man, 6v92, series 50, series 60 all kick ass... dont think DD ever made a boring engine
@@lolfunnycp what about the newer DDx/DDxx engines (for example, DD8)

Wish I rode on one of these when I was last there. I need to make a visit up there.
Michael Horgan you definitely do; as I say sometimes Santa Cruz feels like San Diego in the better days with all these old-school new flyers

Idk why but that comment made my day
LOL
Bro I see these buses everyday cause I live in Watsonville. And also go Santa Cruz County!!
Santa Cruz MTD has decommissioned and scrapped New Flyer D40LF 9819 after 22 years of service (1998-2020).
May she rest in pieces.

935 is ex-Samtrans 713, originally powered by a 6v92; pretty unusual but I guess it's the only way a 1993 Phantom would still be in service

DDS 50 engine first Cummins series engines second but where’s the caterpillar engine
What The Heck Happened There At 3:09

Wooooooooo shitttttttt!
Damn this was a fun ass time. I'm so glad we have this footage for memories. 9820 & 9826 were ridiculous.
@@TheCRTman It was off the chain lol. I know, these old buses will live on in spirit :P Oh it was a wrap for us both XDDD good ass times lol
