I suffer from depression and anxiety most days, I'm a mechanic for my profession. Just bought a kayak cause a buddy and I went out, used his extra and was hooked..been out 3 or 4 times now and when I'm out on the water my depression and anxiety levels are super low and I feel a calmness rush over me like no other...its truly amazing. Hey man - great to hear this. I don't fish, I do photography from my yak, but I know what you mean. Nothing enters my mind when I'm on the water, no anxiety or stress at all.
I suffered from anxiety and depression for years and have found a lot of ways to overcome it, so, and I TRULY MEAN THIS, hit me up and we can just talk and hopefully I can help some. I had a good friend from basic commit suicide when he got out of the military and I vowed to help anyone I ever can. So please hit me up if you ever want to chat, and definitely before you make any life changing decisions. Be safe man and remember that there is always a light at the end.
I sub because I like your attitude. When I'm on a bass boat I am all focused on bassing. In my kayak I focus on fishing but I notice the plants, the bugs, the trees. It is another world. I enjoy the day more and I am at peace on the water.
Thank you for the information. My husband and I hit a rough patch in our marriage and decided to buy kayaks to help get closer and bond. We both love fishing so we decided why not. Let me tell you, it really has let us bond. We watched this video and wrote down things we needed to start.
Love the positive messages scattered in this video. Keep it simple. Enjoy getting out. Don’t think to much and relax. Appreciate it, can’t wait to get my first kayak!
Very sensible advice. Simple is great. It's the whole reason I started yak fishing. I've been fishing for 25 years from a plain rec kayak. Usually, I would take one rod, one flat Plano box of tackle, some soft plastics in my vest pocket, pliers, a Boga Grip and a knife. That's all you really need. I just bought a 12-foot sit-on-top fishing yak, but I have no plans to accessorize it. Maybe I'll add another tackle box and a spare rod, but that's about all.
Had a loaner kayak. Had to give it back and immediately went and bought one. If your going cheap get a sit inside kayak, they paddle easier and are more stable. But thats my opinion. Love it!
I like ur helpful tips and up beat attitude and my grandkids can watch with me without the rough language others use. I'm nearly 70 and have fished the U.S A and Canada but my first yukon angler is on its way. Thanks for the video and I'll find more of yours.

Nice video. Great attitude. I’ve got the kayaking part down. It’s the fishing part that I’m so unsure of. I’m normally taking two spinning rods and to baitcasting rods. That has me set up with a spin bait, chatter bait, swim bait, and some sort of worm rig. I’m just not putting fish in the boat.
Thanks for the vid! Wasn’t sure if I would like it and decided to build one out of insulation foam (see Sawfish kayak) mainly to see if I could build it. Ended up loving it and just picked up a used FS12T. also made one for my boy, then wife had to have one. Bottom line: I fish nearly everyday now, about 100 times more than I was, and the boat has only been in the water once. Whole family can go out and do their own thing and enjoy the day. He had several high end ocean kayaks. I live in Indiana only fresh water. I bought a pelican catch 120 and a sit in kayak. I figured I would like the sit in best. I still haven't rode in that kayak. The second time I got it out I thought I wanted to try to fish out of it. 1st time out had a great time only caught 1 small bluegill but it was so relaxing. I was hooked. I didn't realize how kayak fishing was a thing. Been out probably 3 times a week since the 1st week. Unfortunately I haven't caught any more fish. I must suck at fishing but I don't care. Couldn't aggree more with the paddling up and talking to others out on the water. I generally am not a very social person, so this was difficult for me, but when I finally decided to try it, I was introduced to my favorite small-craft fishing lure by an incredibly generous fellow fisherman. Most of us don't bite, but watch outu for the drunks xD
Yeah I find that most folks are pretty pleasant on the water. There are the occasional a-holes but it's like that in all walks of life. Thanks for watching bud!
Why I like Kayak Fishing, aaa um because I can go where no bass boats can go and it beats the heck out of wading through all of those venomous snakes in the weeds on the shore.

I started fishing from a kayak about 12 years ago in a regular kayak, I just love being on the water. I bought a fishing kayak a couple years later. I live where there are a few ponds near by, there is not many big fish around. I will be moving south soon where I am hoping to get into bigger fish. Looking to find tips to make my trips on the water that more enjoyable, even if I do not catch a fish. That is the point enjoyment.
Thanks for watching, it's such an enjoyable activity for me. I'd say try to link up with some folks when you move South, that always makes things fun. Cheers and tight lines.
@@Outwestwithchris1 I hope to be living in Inman, SC sometime in late summer. I have been watching videos about fishing and kayaks in the past month to get ideas on doing things; hooks, rigs, bait, and how to rig my kayak. The one thing I have not seen is how do you bring a fish back if you want to eat it. Most times I like catch and release.
Well I’m 61 and just bought my first kayak.....I have a bass boat but I think my kayak will be handy . I’m a DIY kind of guy so looking forward to making it my kayak. PFD is a must , ya never know . Thanks for info , set the hook brother.........

I got in to it due too I did not want another boat and I can go where boats can not go , plus I can rig it up how I want too and no renewal fees every year
Good tips for the starter. I had a blast the first time I got to kayak fish (wish your kayak). Maybe you should do a quick video showing how/what you used for your crate and other "DIY" items and why/what you would do different if you were to make them again. Keep it up and dust off that rifle. Hunting season is around the bend.
I know man, I do need to dust off the rifle... I can do some vids on how I mod my crate. It's pretty simple but I could see where it could be helpful. Good chatting with you on the phone today bud, thanks for watching!
I so appreciated you bringing your extra kayak for me for our meet up. I will have my own kayak in a month or two. It is always better to have a friend to ask questions to get started, thank you.
Yeah man, I was happy to introduce a friend to the sport and you know I'm always happy to help answer any questions you have as best I can. Thanks for watching bud!
Yo Chris! I found you via your Yaktactics podcast. I have been binge listening to that! Great content! I hope you and Dean can keep that going for a long while. I'm in northern Oregon, hopefully I can make my way south and meet up with you guys sometime. Tight lines, man!
Bro I love kayak fishing and I really appreciate that you did a video trying to promote the sport... but your video does not seem to offer a useful amount of valuable information to new kayak anglers. I would also recommend that you only carry two rods. If you take a small amount of gear you can rig up two separate rods with enough variety to keep you fishing effectively for several hours. Your feet could easily get caught up in all that gear you were storing next to the drive system on your kayak, making peddling as well as actually landing a fish into that same are very difficult. I would also recommend editing out the part of your video that encourages kayak anglers (especially since this video is clearly targeting beginners) to anchor their kayaks with a steak in the middle of the boat. Always anchor of the back (stern, aft or transom) of the kayak with the anchor up river and the bow (front) of the kayak pointed down current. Otherwise it's really appreciated that you are helping bring awareness to the sport of kayak fishing.
Great tips. I’ve been at about as long as you and LOVE it. I need to check out that flag system. I currently don’t have one right now because I didn’t want it on all the time. I prefer a sit in myself.
Hey Chris great video I'm looking into getting the feelfree lure 11.5 I noticed in you videos that you at using the 13.5. I plan on doing 50% ocean and the other lakes in you opinion which one should I get thanks
+KAYAK HOOKED I would go with the 13.5. It is a bit faster than the 11.5 and also a bit more stable. Bigger bodies of water = longer kayaks. Thanks for watching and for asking the question!
Me and 3-4 others go kayak camping. Get dropped off fri morning and get picked up sun night, usually float down river, camp on sand bars or forest. Fish all the way down and eat what we catch. The further away from civilization the better..... bring rain coat lol
Well if everyone bought a Hobie as their first kayak then all the current Hobie owners wouldn't feel so "special" about themselves so there is that benefit. haha, just kidding.
Buy anything safe that you can afford. Don't hang out on the shore holding out for something that costs more than your first car and weighs so much it requires a trailer. The sport was invented to be simple and cheap. You may like it that way.
So I'm new to the sport and if I was gonna paddle up to another fisherman to BS with them whats the best way to approach without passing them off and making a bunch of splashing
There are some brands and styles I would stay away from but if you are looking to get into the sport on a tight budget look at Craigslist or see if any kayak shops in your area have any trade-ins. Kayaks do retain their value fairly well but you can often find a good deal on them, especially in the off season, on craigslist and other for sale sites!
Anything you can get at Walmart. I'd also suggest a sit on top unless you are an experienced kayaker who has spent a lot of time in sit in kayaks and that is what you prefer.
I’m dying to get a kayak and get out there.. unfortunately I can’t seem to find one this time of year.. guessing due to COVID everyone either went out and bought one cus they’ve been stuck in the house or they’re just not able to supply enough :(
Great video ! Been thinking about getting a Lifetime Teton kayak. Reviews are good. Never been on one. came to Florida almost 6 years ago and great bass fishing. Any thoughts would be helpful.. I will be 69 next week. Think it will be good.
Enjoy watching your videos Chris, but sadly im not one who can afford a Kayak. nor do i have a vehicle for which i could mount said aquatic transportation. Cars without roof racks = no fun.
Yeah transporting is a big issue and I understand. I fished the majority of my life from the bank, or wading/wet wading rivers, a lot of joy in that style of fishing too!
All these fishing kayak tip videos are such trash. How about talking about ACTUALLY FISHING from your kayak??? Where to put your rod when tying on leaders/lures. How to cast properly. Best storage options. How to stop from turning. COME ON
You sound upset man. That's not good. I'll try to answer a few of your questions here but first, your comment is good, it gives me some ideas. Ok. 1 - where to put your rod when tying on. I typically put it in my lap with enough line stripped out to work with. 2 - casting is the same for the most part, some underhand techniques are difficult unless you are standing in your yak. Also, watch out on your back cast if you store rods behind you as you might hit them. It happens, even after years of fishing from a kayak. 3 - Storage options (not sure if you are talking tackle management or actually storing the boat so...) 3a - tackle storage. I use a milk crate and put in various Lure boxes depending on the species I Target. I strap the milk crate into the rear well so it stays put. 3b - when storing your kayak it's best to store it inside out of direct sunlight and the elements. Garages are great. If you don't have one a tarp works too. I store mine flat on the ground, some people recommend storing on the side. 4 - the turning thing will happen, a lot of times a rudder will help reduce that. Time on the water helps too. I will try to talk about some of these topics in upcoming videos but it'll probably be a few months before a video posts. Hope you can get out there and have a good time in the meantime.

Lucky, my ex never interested outdoor life only walk with her dogs.. end up divorced for good. Stay single over 11 year and more time kayaking.
I have been an avid fisherman for nearly 50 years. I own 2 rods. One for open water and one for ice fishing.
Best part of kayak fishing for me is the freedom. No need for a boat ramp, no parking area required, just carry the yak and go have fun :)

Thanks , I’m just getting into it.
Hope you are having fun!
Great tips. I’ve been at about as long as you and LOVE it. I need to check out that flag system. I currently don’t have one right now because I didn’t want it on all the time. I prefer a sit in myself.
Also love the idea of doing your own mods. Did a few myself.
New sub here. Looking forward to checking out more of your content.
Thanks, much appreciated!!
Sit inside is the best! Paddles amazing and lower center of gravity and less water splash. Love it
Good video , this really inspired me
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Cool video have a good day and stay safe
Thanks you have a good one too!
That sounds pretty awesome!!!
Link to the collapsible flag and light pole? Did I miss it somewhere?
Yes, it is easy for you to say meet up any fishing kayaks guys on a lake twice they found out I’m deaf…they paddled away… it sure don’t feel good. 😢
Have any kayak recommendations
My #1 tip is to buy a Hobie! (lol, coming from a Hobie fanboy and I don't like to paddle)
I agree 100%!!!
Great Video
Thanks and thanks for watching!
So I'm new to the sport and if I was gonna paddle up to another fisherman to BS with them whats the best way to approach without passing them off and making a bunch of splashing
I'd just start the conversation from 50 feet or so away. Just a friendly hey how ya doing and see how that goes.
Awesome video Chris. I am very interested in kayak fishing. What's your thoughts on a budget kayak? How low can u go?? Lol
What brands and styles would you say stay away from?
Anything you can get at Walmart. I'd also suggest a sit on top unless you are an experienced kayaker who has spent a lot of time in sit in kayaks and that is what you prefer.
Cool Chris thanks for the advice
I’m dying to get a kayak and get out there.. unfortunately I can’t seem to find one this time of year.. guessing due to COVID everyone either went out and bought one cus they’ve been stuck in the house or they’re just not able to supply enough :(
Dang thats not cool. I've heard fishing gear in general is in low supply, not shocking I guess. Hope you can find one soon.
Great video ! Been thinking about getting a Lifetime Teton kayak. Reviews are good. Never been on one. came to Florida almost 6 years ago and great bass fishing. Any thoughts would be helpful.. I will be 69 next week. Think it will be good.
I just turned 13 and for my birthday I got a lifetime tamarack do you have any suggestions for me
I am usually smoking some of the devils herb when kayaking. Nothing better than sharing smoke with a random kayak fisherman. All good people.
Question, do you need to register a kayak like a regular boat if you use it on a lake?
Most states only require registration of kayaks if you put a motor on it. Hope that helps!
@@Outwestwithchris1 Does that include a trolling motor? Or gas motor?
It varies from state to state I think but does include electric motors in many.
I’m out on the water to relax, two poles is enough to mange. Definitely have a flag though, the jet skiers and powerboats make you feel invisible.
Yeah I had a few wake boats get really close a few days ago. Not fun.
Hay just traded for a fillfree 13.5 hope to take it out this weekend. I'm Terry on my wife's phone
Awesome man, the 13.5 is a solid boat, have fun!
Hey hey.. great video.. I might piggy back off of this at a later time.. :)
Thanks man, piggy back away man!
Worm and hook and stick
awesome! :D
Thanks!
Keren mas bro🙏👍
U can go where no other boat can go. Fish on.
What kayak is this?
Feelfree Lure 13.5
A moderen way of fishing like vikings
Best tip was don't be a jerk on the water.
Makes life more enjoyable.

Found the cool guy
@@Jan-gj8bm it's a joke. Sorry for the sarcasm
Out West with Chris g’s i’m a dick. Sorry i was just angry and my comment was uncalled for. Thanks for the tips man you have great content! (My bad)
