    I learned the highwayman's hitch back in school decades ago. But I've been leery of its safety. I am so glad that you've provided a simple and elegant solution to make it secure. Thanks!

    NT Thanks a bunch for this video, much appreciated. I'm looking for a quick release for my anchor line on my kayak without getting into too much "gadgetry". I want to be able to release my kayak anchor from whatever position (from bow or stern) without using the anchor trolley. I fish is swift current and need to reliably release in an instant and a couple of these knots will do the trick.

    If you were sliding down a 50ft rope after a burglary with a thin piece of string attached to the loose end to facilitate knot release and a quick escape what knot would you consider most reliable?

    these are great but i'm looking for how to tie a stage curtain to a truss. the curtain has many tie points along it with two ropes/two ends - and i normally see these are tied together around the truss in a quick release bow, it has to be both safe to raise the truss and quick to remove. whats best?

    Do you known quick release knots for tightening knots similar to the constrictor knot?

  • @rubenbaczo8497

    The last is almoust the speed-bouline, but it's not safe, it slips out if your rope is a bit slippery.

    are those knots good for hammocks?

    • @kurtraygmail
      @kurtraygmail 8 лет назад +2

      +aecrim x I think this would work great for hammocks, however, if your buddies want to pull a prank on you, just one pull of the release rope and your butt is hitting the ground. That's the only drawback I see. Camp with trusted friends and you're good to go.

    All these knots are great but indeed the henk is the better. I've pulled on the loaded end with full power and all my weight. Nothing. It just doesn't budge. you can even slack the robe completely and the knot will just stay in the loop when tension is suddenly back.
    Practiced it so im doing it with my eyes shut now :)
    Thanks again for the great vid and a great day to you as well!

    My favorite knot must be the evenk hitch, with the highwayman's hitch you have to understand the first bite you pull through is the loaded end, second will be the quick release end, you can repeat this proses for a few times to make it stronger. I hope this helpes =)
    Have a great day, Nick

  • @andr3w205

    Which knot would be the best for criminal activity? (hunour me, I'm writing a book ... stop laughing at the back!).
    Say you've got into a 6 storey apartment and you know the wealthy chump always leaves the bedroom window slightly ajar. You snaffle the gems tie your rope around a cast iron radiator exit through the window closing it over to the usual amount. You abseil down to ground level and retrieve the rope leaving no trace of how you did it.
    The secure highwaymans knot gets my vote but maybe I'm missing something.

    • @Sambordeax
      @Sambordeax 10 лет назад

      If I were a thief, I wouldn't bother with a knot. To use these knots (which I wouldn't trust with body weight anyway) you need both ends to reach to the bottom of your abseil. So put your rope around any solid object, abseil from both strands at the same time and when you reach the bottom pull either side to pull you rope back from around the object and it will fall down. That's how canyoning works:)

    • @Sambordeax
      @Sambordeax 10 лет назад

      even better, attach your loot to the end of the rope. make a loop in the rope a couple of meters from the loot. pas the rope around a sold object, tread the loose end through the loop (and hold it). throw your loot out of the window, abseil down the other end so that you end up with a sort of noose around you anchoring point. once you reach the bottom, let go, and the weight of your loot will pull the noose loose and everything will come falling down... (don't do this with fragile loot); in fact don't do this, it's pretty hardcore stuff for canyoning when the abseil is more then half the length of the rope but we ussually plan ahead to ovoid those situations... if something gets stuck or you get hit by the weight or fail to catch the rope... you are fucked:p

    • @lengthmuldoon
      @lengthmuldoon 10 лет назад

      Sambordeax
      Thank you my friend I can your "canyoning" is both enjoyable and quite possibly lucrative!!
