Oh you split down the uk countries into counties interesting
The UK was a right pain to figure out how I was going to do, as three of the four countries have an absolute ton of counties, and the GeoGuessr Map Maker doesn't feature any of the county borders, making the maps quite a chore to draw.
Eventually, I settled on using the "preserved" counties for Scotland and Wales - an old administrative division that was abolished back in the 1970s (I think) but is still used for ceremonial and various other non-admin purposes.
Northern Ireland has had a county reform fairly recently, and the number of them is quite reasonable for the purpose of the series, but again the county borders are not found on the map maker.
As for England ... where do I even begin ... I ended up with the major regions rather than the individual counties, which means that England doesn't feature much in the series. And again, borders not found on the map maker.
I have had to do similar things to Romania, Slovenia, Turkey and Latvia in order to fit them into the series - they just have too many counties, so I went digging for alternative ways those countries are split up that I could use. If I had not set a limit on how many counties I'd cover in any specific county (not above 30), the above countries plus if I had done every single county in the UK, would most likely have put the end total of episodes into the high 800s. And that's just not happening. :D
I still have about 150+ maps to make for the series, and am currently building up my mental energy to work on Vlaams-Brabant in Belgium. Belgian county borders are not shown on the map maker either, and they are wriggly as the most insane puzzle ever ...
But hey, well past the mid-way point now - it should all be downhill from here. Right.
