legend has it dr. j. did this in a game, the 1972 nba v. aba allstar game. he would have been 21 or 22 yrs old, i've seen some of this game but not the dunk, from what i did see julius looked like he was playing on air, the gracefulness, quickness, speed, and agility was something you can still marvel at. no one has possessed the skills and ability that julius erving had, no one.
Yeah, but what you didn't see was Magic, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkens, James Worthy, etc were all there for the all star game and all stood up and gave Doc a standing ovation before he attempted this. They "ALL GREW UP" wanting to be like Doc on the playgrounds.
Nooooooooooooobody!!!!!i repeat nobody but dr.j has been in a dunk contest full of young bucks at age 30+ jumping from a darn freethrowline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Now thats a pros pro!
@dv122, Agreed 110%. That's what makes Jordan stand out, also Jordan dunked from behind the line at a ridiculous altitude. Respect to the Dr either way.
Besides probably being the first he's probably the oldest man to dunk from the ft. line...In fact I don't know why but I believe that he can still dunk today
Sure u can. It wasn't blocking the rim. U can see ball and rim at the same time. You're thinking if it was from behind and you couldn't see the rim where he was dunking over
@mecal15, Stepping on the line and stepping way beyond it are two different things, however the Dr. was my favorite player of all time growing up and I definitely respect the Dr. since he is also the originator of the high flying events but keep in mind that Jordan is only 6"6 in height so naturally he needed more take off momentum than Dr. Jay.

Perfect 🇨🇦🇺🇸😁

who started freethrow line dunkin in basketball Dr.J who invented the cradle dunk? Dr.J Dr.J is the king of dunkin
Dr J was poetry in motion, nobody else like him. Jordan didn't have his elegance

Doc J can still dunk at age 63!!!
thats the effect of distance in the image .... teh camera is down and back from dr. j... so it show higher. But it still high : )
There's NOBODY like Dr. J.
Unfortunately Doc jumps like a foot inside the line in this 1985 footage. In the 84 on, he did step on the line.
When Kobe is 35. he cant even jump from the dotted line.
the dr. did a baseline drop step and dunked on mark eaton.....and he was 36 at the time.
he could almost elbow that dunk
Jordan? He dunked on Mutombo at age 35 when he did the finger wave.
you cant pause it at 0:07 because there is no 0:07...
age 35? damn!!

Jordan did not jump behind the line
Jordan is not in Docs league in long dunks. Check Docs dunk on Oscar Robertson when the ball was over top of square on the dunk. Doc was longer
whered ya go stevey? i win
Much respect to the Doctor.
Dr.J , Magic and Bird , Jordan = all legends on the game.
Nobody dunks like the Doc. His hand is as it appears..high over the rim!
Besides probably being the first he's probably the oldest man to dunk from the ft. line...In fact I don't know why but I believe that he can still dunk today
He was a step in the free throw line.
Unfortunately, this 1985 dunk is actually like a foot inside the line. One can't see from angle.
@Kenai123 angle wasnt right, the camera was well below the rim. so you cant really tell how high the ball was.

He operates so well The Doctor

Dr J is the same height. They're both 6'6
Insane.
it looks so easy for him.
no special preparations.
watch the Dr at the ABA dunk contest on 1976:
watch?v=VhIdTip5cjo
Doc could dunk a foot further than the ft line. It's easy to see that
Could have been another step back from the foul line ramp 🚀😁🇨🇦🇺🇸
It was a foul line dunk. He was well inside the line
@Kenai123 Perspective. His hand wasn't as high as it appears there. Still a great dunk, especially for his age.
@tkcwu and you can only dunk doughnuts
@paperboy215 * DEEZ NUTS
