Apart from the blunders here, there's one thing I worry about. I've seen engines time and time again, like Lord Harry for example, use their name as an excuse for conceit. I'd hate to have Ivo Hugh become just another trend of this especially since he looks like a nice guy with that fantastic smile. Hopefully, he'll break that trend.

I can't comment on the intention but I've seen engines in preservation have their tenders removed for overhaul. One of the engines on my old railway has a tender that's so rusted it's likely to be scrapped for spare parts for her sisters tender until a new one can be fabricated. Perhaps something similar happened to Duke.
By the way, Duke is an 0-4-0ST+T... a saddle tank-tender engine. He could technically have just put his tender away somewhere for the ceremony, for whatever reason. (Formerly he was just an 0-4-0T+T. The saddle tank appearance came later.)
This is an underrated story,ivo Hugh may not have much personality,but it was a good way to show the narrow gauge engines for one final time in the railway series,as well as have a heartwarming ending,with mr Hugh having an engine named after him in honor of his many years of good service.;)

yeah, the book "Great Little Engines" stated he was under repair, so it was likely he has been repaired and the only component to repair was his tender :)

If the damn publishers hadn't breathed down Christopher Awdry's neck in demands for more stories, then he probably wouldn't have given us books that are only based on obligation more so than inspiration. And this book right here is somethin' obligatory that doesn't put any structural effect into it. Plus it's a book that's just forgettable to even be part of the Railway Series. This is why I do not partake in any interest of journalism whatsoever.
