  • Published on Mar 4, 2026
  • What happens when seasoned American truck drivers get behind the wheel of a European Scania for the very first time? We found out at the 2025 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky!
    In this video, I let real U.S. truckers take our Scania R-series out for a spin-and their reactions say it all. From the smooth ride to the advanced technology and interior comfort, most of them were shocked by how different (and how good) this truck really is. Some had never even heard of Scania before this experience!
    This video captures raw, honest feedback from everyday truckers who spend their lives behind the wheel of Freightliners, Kenworths, Peterbilts, and more. Could this be the start of a European invasion in the American trucking industry?
    Drop a comment below: Would YOU drive a Scania in the U.S.?

Mostly smaller Isuzu and Fuso trucks and some bigger Hinos here. @marcelloquarta9969 Although you are right, the ACTUALL reason why you don`t see US trucks in Europe is that you build them following US-security standarts, while ours are stricter.
      We don`t even GET THE CHANCHE to buy or reject your trucks, becuase legally, they cannot be sold or driven in the EU.
      I still don`t understand why the fraking chinese can build cars and trucks that adhere to our stsndarts, and you can`t..........
      Edit: Sorry, I had to tend to my dogs...
      You may, rightfully, question, why we impose a tarriff on a vehicle that can`t be sold in the EU. It`s because China. This way we can say that it is not an anti-chinese tarriff, because, look, we impose it also to the USA.....(actually it IS an anti-chinese tarriff)

      Trucks are like cars, the older you go, the better looking they get. Has there ever been a better-looking dash than the Corvette style in a Pete? Same with motorcycles, that's why I've owned a Harley shovelhead for 44 years.

      @neilpuckett359😂😂 americans only want to look "cool" in their junk mobiles. While here in Europe we want ergonomic and functional stuff that is safe and a joy to drive..

    • @Johnny_Socko

      Almost all large fleets in the USA are using modern Freightliner (Daimler) or Volvo trucks. It's mostly the independent owners that are still driving those old Peterbilt and Kenworth. Of course one could argue that the modern trucks are still antiques on the inside. 😄

    • @kohlzzy
      @kohlzzy 7 months ago +10

      It's not really culture shock. It's not like American made trucks can't be the same way, it's just in the land of the free profit is put above driver comfort.

    • @Parker_Douglas
      @Parker_Douglas 4 months ago +4

      What weird is USA is light years ahead in technology but keeps it from its own citizens.

    • @Bloink
      @Bloink 3 months ago +1

      @Utonian21 You're correct and incorrect at the same time. But it's clearly is a culture shock any way you splice it since the culture it comes from doesn't give 2 shts about McDonald fashion ("free profit") so the brands are FLOURISHING at home, and thus, they make it to the US.
      Then, the US is shocked at the quality. It's literally a culture shock. It's a STOCK truck, not a museum piece.

    • @OhmeinGottVIIC
      @OhmeinGottVIIC 27 days ago +3

      @Parker_Douglas They arent. It’s a self serving myth to make the people feel better about themselves. If you compare American and European companies you won’t see a technological advantage in most areas, it’s more the other way around. There is a reason why a small 80-million-Country in Europe has been the world’s biggest exporter for years and still is in the top 3 without having resources to exports.
      Main exception being big tech of course.

    Put some air in the seat and let them really feel the comfort of riding on full air suspension. You can set the stiffnes of the rebound so you don’t bounce around so much. Dont let the tall guys ride on the floor like that. Not comfortable at all.

    I used to build Wingliner semi trailers (Austrian design) and put a couple in the MATS show several years ago. I currently pull one with my ‘09 Freightliner Argosy cabover and I wish I had a nickel for every time I’ve told someone that if they still made the Argosy, I’d buy one tomorrow. But my truck doesn’t hold a candle to the Scania. I’ve been following Bruce’s Scania story since its inception and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t get down to Louisville to get behind the wheel of that machine. Truth be told, Bruce probably wouldn’t let me near it because I’d be drooling all over it and his polishing bill would go way up! Hats off to Bruce and his team. I wish him success in convincing Scania to come to America!

    My dad was a intereuropean truck driver during the late 80s to the early 00s and each summer he would take me or one of my siblings with him during the summer break. We would go around Europe with him spending around a month just on the road. The Scania trucks was always his favourite (the Volvos and MANs not so much). I find it hard to describe how sitting on that seat felt, it was so smooth. I only went in a "American style" (or a torpedo as it is called here) once or twice and it was not as enjoyable. I once got smuggled into Germany because the load was some kind of acid and I was unsurprisingly not certified for that at 12 years of age.

    As someone from the UK England I have driven these trucks and they are the best.
    Your Scania is now looking so good. The colour is shining under the lights and looks just awesome.
    I like what you have done to it.
    Every person who gets in it for a test drive has the same look on their face.. Wowwww
    The first Gentleman really liked it and you can see that he was impressed.
    The second Gentleman who got in was looking a slight overwhelmed at first as all the things this truck has as stock.
    Then he put his foot down and was oh my goodness ! this truck really has some power.
    Well looking forward to the next video tomorrow.
    ps.

    I drive a MAN. It rides like a modern car. With mirrorless cameras all around. 360 view, No more death spot. And has Level 2 - Partial Driver Assistance. For me is seeing American trucks is like looking at a ancient history.
    Level 2 introduces advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This means that the vehicle offers a combination of the Level 1 systems together so that it can steer, brake and accelerate itself in certain situations - and only on approved areas of the road. ADAS are there to support the driver, but they must be ready to step in at any time. As such, ADAS features are best considered to be “hands-off” rather than a full-self-drive system.

      Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way) don't help either. Thank you very much for your time.
      First of all, if you have any questions regarding Islam and yourself, just open the Quran randomly, and you will find the answer in front of you, like a miracle and a sign from God.

      Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
      Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
      Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
      Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
      Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
      Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
      Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
      Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
      It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.
      (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad)..
      God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.”
      (2:136 / Translated by Community)
      Salam (Peace) ---

      so the partial assistance means that when something happens, liability for the driver assist is on the manufacturer and the driver doesnt bear guilt ? So all those cameras are the yconnected to the internet so that your owner has a view on you as well ?

      @TzOk 11 months ago +4

      @cdgncgn It is not an autonomous vehicle; it can only take control if the driver is not driving it, e.g. has lost consciousness, fallen asleep, or gotten distracted. It is still the driver's responsibility, but there is a chance that the system will save him from trouble even if the driver makes a mistake. Cameras are offline, and their recordings can be downloaded only by physical connection in case of an accident. Most cars in the EU (where it is legal) have DVRs, and it is officially recommended equipment to have such a device.

    Having watched you since you got your first Scania, it's been a whirlwind. At times I wanted to slap you with what you were doing with the Scanias. But honestly I'm so delighted at what you're achieving, partnering up with Scania. If Scania don't get to sell in the USA it not for the lack of effort you and Scania have put into this adventure.
    The feedback your getting is tremendous. But in all fairness Scania Is for the driver. Come America 🇺🇸 look after your drivers.
    Wishing you and Scania all the best. It was the first truck I drove and I wish I still had it.

    He said that's the Lexus of trucks. Smooth, quiet, and excellent build quality... just like a Lexus. PACCAR really needs to step up their quality. Especially now that they phased out the 389 which is better built than their new batch of 2.1m cab crap.

      The 389 is renamed to 589 . In case you are interested, there are one or two Peterbilts I have seen in Oman, and one here in Qatar by photo, but all for harsh work in the oil and gas industry......Kuwait still has their old fire engines based on Peterbilts but I don't know if they retired them or not....

    Now lift that spoiler up a bit ⬆, you're not even close to 4 meters. And show them the window sunshade on the driver's door, there are so many things that others don't see and you don't show both online and that someone is watching/driving.

    • @explorernate
      @explorernate 11 months ago

      No point lifting the aero, would just add drag and reduce fuel efficiency. Good shout on the window shades though, it’s so standard on our trucks I wouldn’t have even thought american trucks wouldn’t have it but theyre so useful.

    • @thedutchhuman
      @thedutchhuman 11 months ago

      @explorernate What I meant with putting the spoiler/aero up, that he can do that for the shows and take it down when he leaves there again, so flat on the roof is also nothing. And what you say is right, if you don't have anything behind it (or meters of space the American way) you consume more.

    I’ve always wondered what U.S truckers would think of Scania’s and why it’s taken so many years for Scania themselves to offer the American big rig market an option. Driven Scania’s myself in the UK, and I think they’re great trucks. Hats off to the first driver, he seem to be like a kid at Christmas when he hit the loud pedal lol

    • @freed991
      @freed991 10 months ago

      The US has its own market over there. It's established and it's not horrible. Not only that, I'm sure Europeans would charge more than the trucks are worth and then would make getting parts harder because as I have gotten older I have learned people from Europe and UK hate Americans with every fiber of their being.

    • @PeterGoodfellow-g6l
      @PeterGoodfellow-g6l 10 months ago

      Nothing to do with Scania and everything to do with American protectionism.
      They can't compete so they keep Scania out of their market.

    • @HerdoRalden
      @HerdoRalden 9 months ago

      Because Americans aren't restricted by total length so they don't have to drive them. COE trucks were the norm until the 1980s when the overall length restrictions were lifted and the entire COE industry died basically overnight in the US. There's nothing stopping anyone from manufacturing these style of trucks for the US market, and yet nobody does.

    i have always liked the look of old american trucks that i saw on tv and movies when i was young. But they are rare here in scandinavia. Then i got older and started to drive cabovers like that scania, volvos, MAN:s and maybe some daf. After some time i got to drive some old scanias with the hood in the front, and i did not like it at all. To bumpy and ruff to drive and to many blind spots for me, i like to know where the truck is and where there is other traficants and obstacles. The old peterbuilts and kenworths still looks cooler (from the outside).
