Thank you for this. I lived in Iceland for 4 years when I was little and I used to be fluent in Icelandic but after years in America I lost it. Even though I’m not fluent anymore I still sound native. This has helped me relearn the language 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸
So my mum is from Iceland and we are moving back there next year and I don’t know how to speak it at all and I’m going to school there so I have started to learn Icelandic x
For some of you.. try putting some earphones in and fall asleep listening to this. I'm ADHD and it somehow helps with retaining the words and sounds. I'm on day 3 and I already have a few words and phrases stuck and comes natural as I say it. Also I have bone conductive earphones that are on my head throughout the day playing this so I'm constantly hearing it. I plan on visiting quite often and potentially move there one day so I wanna be as fluent as possible for respect of the natives that already live there.
After listening to this, i figured out what certain words are when you hear it, but looking at the words you think it's going to sound a certain way, then throws a curve ball. Best idea is to learn the Icelandic alphabet before learning words that you you get the gist of what the letters sound like. Personally I'm still lost with þ and æ lol
check out using Drops or Duo Lingo apps to help you acquire familiarity with the language. 2 months in for me and the combination of first listening to videos I ike this, watching them and using the apps helps A LOT!
To be honest I’m here from Terror in Resonance and that anime I think opened my eye to how beautiful the language is since Icelandic is used in the anime
I just released a video singing in icelandic and I confess as non native I was listening to this video quite a few times with headphones while working hahah :) I hope I did it justice
@@LearningPhrases I often joke that when I reach "do you have a menu" I always am like what? as it turns to be such a long sentence. Yesterday I encouraged myself to share my first song singing in Icelandic :) so thanks very much for helping me polishing my pronounciation
Modern Icelandic has the most similarity to Old Norse through language evolution compared to other Nordic languages. The pronunciation is believed to still be a bit different though.
as a bilingual spanish english speaker I can at least pronounce the r´s and am used enough to most sounds, but icelandic does seem confusing due to multiple things sounding similar but being written differently, seems like it might be a fun time for me to learn though
I'm a bit confused about this, but, some of the Icelandic learning apps I use pronounce Hallo with a T sound and this Icelandic book I have says that 2 Ls together are pronounced with the T sound added, but in a few videos I've seen there is no t sound in Hallo, can anyone explain this to me, if you understand my paragraph that is.
I never heard _halló_ being pronounced with a "tl" , unfortunatelly not all apps(if any ) has native icelandic prounuciation, but instead a robot - voice not knowing all the rules AND exceptions.
Yes this is a subtle aspect of learning any language. Get multiple sources to learn from, observe and notice the differences where you hear and see (written) them. I also picked up on the 'T' sound with double LL in Halló - however when you listen at 01:00 to "Halló allir!" you can clearly notice this difference. You will also notice that spoken Icelandic will often merge or subtly omit explicit words similar to how English uses contractions.
Your clip is helpful . But I have two questions 1. Hvað langar þig í að drekka ? Is it different from Hvað langar þig að drekka ? Why í was added here ? 2 . Einn kaffibolla, takk. Why Einn did not changed with kaffibolla ----: Einan kaffibolla , takk. ?
use the Samsung keyboard settings cog wheel, select languages and choose Icelandic. Then you will be able to switch between languages by swiping on the space key.
I found that there are two einn , one is óákveðið fornafn , another is lýsingarorð , and þf is einn seen in the óákveðið fornafn . So that Einn kaffibolla , takk . is correct. if so , I could say þrír kaffibolla , takk. right ?
I want to learn Icelandic but as an englishman I'm constantly infuriated by the fact that everyone uses the flag of the us. English originates from England and it should be the British flag not us!
As an American, I agree. I love, love, love the English language. I hope our (Americans') butchering of it is offset by some of the creative additions we've made.

I have read Icelandic is the closest to old Norse is that true?
They are almost the same, an Icelander can easily understand Old Norse
Wow
Either Icelandic or Faroese depending on who you ask.
Yes, you could call Icelandic "the new norse"
