I had a rigid cystoscopy done today, was under general anesthetic as recommended by my Urologist surgeon. No pain or recollection of the procedure of course, for the first couple of hours after, I was uncomfortable but nothing too bad, pain was far far worse when peeing, very sharp and strong pain, with each pee it gets slightly better, was told to drink lots of water and take regular painkillers. Have been told pain usually lasts for 1-2 days but has improved a little already (procedure was about 5 hours ago) lots of rest, but anyone having this done do not worry !
I'm having a heart attack and they ain't saying nothing about knocking me out. I'm quite sure they expect me awake. I chickened out before but the thing looked different. Maybe the cam thing they want to do for me isn't the same. No stones or anything in the ultrasound. I never had a catheter but was told that's all this is. But this seems a lot worse and I'm totally horrified. I can live with feeling like I have to go 1 and 2 all the time and not then do this just to rule out a couple things. Urologist seemed to know have a good idea what it was but didn't want to communicate that or what this experience is going to be like. Like I don't need reasons to chicken out, but damn Doc needs to be straight up with a patient like me.

The urologist had my legs in the OB/GYN-type device as if I was about to give birth...LOL. Okay so just had this done a couple of hours ago. NOT NEARLY AS BAD AS IT LOOKS. They put in a gel much like this doctor did, felt weird because I’m used to liquid going out not in. Once the instrument went in, I didn’t feel anything until right before the bladder. Felt an uncomfortable feeling but NOT painful for just a second. Once he was in bladder, I was fine. Felt a bit uncomfortable when he turned the camera, but the doc was done in no more than a minute. Easy PZ. Didn’t take any medications, and was completely coherent. Don’t worry guys, all will be okay.

@@philipgrombliniak I've had one before, that's why I said it hurt. The pain was gone after a couple of hours for me. I'm 29, and I had a cystoscopy, at 25, because I have an enlarged prostate (my first urologist, now retired, said I'm his youngest patient to have one), but the other urologist, who performed it didn't find anything wrong during the procedure. I haven't had any problems lately, and I don't ever want to do that again, at least not while I'm awake.
I wish all urologists had your skill and patience. Beginning surgeons should be forced to see this and learn how to perform cystoscopy correctly. Well done.
I just had this procedure done on Friday the 10th of June, and I'm so glad I didn't see this video. Although, the procedure went well and done by a female doctor in Irvine California, the nervousness was worse than the pain, which was minor. Dr. Gabal found a kidney stone that had traveled to my bladder and was able to remove it. It is just amazing how a tiny little stone about 2 mm wide and flat could cause so much misery.
I went through this procedure recently due to a urinary tract infection. It was a weird sensation, but in all honesty not that painful. And I could watch the the live feed on a screen next to me which made the experience quite interesting, especially once the scope had made it into the bladder. Lots of cool stuff going on inside the body.
Just got my uretheral stent removed (no string) as an outpatient where my urologist used a flexible cystocope this afternoon (male, 53 years old). Overall, the pain was mild and bearable using just local jelly anesthesic. It's more uncomfortable than painful although the nurse told me that some patients find it very painful although most do not. I feel fortunate to belong to the latter group. The most painful part is when the tip of the scope passes through the prostate (as it's narrower there) but that is only for a split second. I give that pain rating a 6/10. Once the tip gets to the bladder, the pain dissapears. The next painful part is when the urologist retracts the stent out of the body. That pain felt like 5/10 when it goes through the penis but only last a second or so. Not bad at all. The worst part is that you will pee blood for the next day or two and the urine burning sensation in the first hour is pretty painful (7/10), but that urination pain subsides quick even just a few hours later. Good luck guys, it's really not that bad. - Toronto, Canada
I've been through that. I'd describe it as a cold burning sensation with the scope up my tube. What a strange sensation that was! I can't rightly say it was painful but it wasn't pleasant, either. Just ODD.
I had this done a couple of weeks ago. The worst part is the burning afterwards when peeing and the blood that comes at the end of peeing. It lasted 3 days!
@@benpenph there are lots of different reasons why someone would need to have this procedure. Personally, I had noticed blood in my urine so my urologist wanted to check for bladder cancer which thankfully there was none.

My husband had this done one month ago for a simple bladder biopsy for red patches. The procedure ended up taking 90 minutes because the dr said there was excessive bleeding from the prostate at the bladder neck and had to cauterize for a very long time. If he had gone this slowly I wonder if he would have had complications. We’ve been asking for the operative notes for over three weeks but he has not given them to us. We aren’t really sure what to think.! Is hemorrhaging from inflamed prostate common during rigid cystoscopy?
After watching this, I realize that my doctor is just mean. He said, "I can't get in" and JAMMED that thing in so fast and hard that I jumped off the table without any prior notice of what he was doing, how much pain he was going to cause me, or if I wanted him to do that.
