  • This is a partial POV of Son of Beast, the wooden looping coaster that operated at Kings Island (then, Paramount's Kings Island) until 2009. The ride was removed in 2012 and Banshee, the B&M inverted coaster, now partially sits on the same site.

I love how it sounded like it was falling apart in its opening year. I’ve never heard wheels screech that much.

When the park added more grease to the ride, that screech was lowered quite a bit.

@@SeanFlaharty Yeah, I don't remember it doing that when I rode it in '02. It's just funny to see how much they had to put into this ride to make it (barely) work properly.

The uneven square bracing and overall structure design that this company used for this ride was very strange. It was built like the Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. If I'm remembering correctly, that one had many structural issues and quite an unusual sway that almost looked like a wave going down the structure in areas. I can imagine that this one was a maintenance nightmare.

Yes it does. Premier Rides trains. The Son of Beast trains had a raised floor making it hard for taller riders to ride.. When I rode Bandit in Germany, it didn't have the raised floor. Not sure if that has changed or not.

Once a sleepy whistle stop founded when the iron horse made its way westward, frontiertown, with its natural resources and raw beauty captivated many-a Traveler. Soon, a boarding house, saloon and restaurant established the beginnings of the town, followed by grist mills, blacksmiths and assorted craftsmen. Then, along came a silver tongued stranger named Maverick, who settled in, purchased land and established a mining company that brought prosperity to the town and a fortune for himself. With power came influence and disregard for anyone that anything unsuitable, outdated or outspoken. It took a trio of outcasts to forge together, once sent away from the place they call home, to right the wrong that had befallen the beloved frontiertown under Maverick's reign. Wyatt "Digger" Dempsey, a reclusive inventor, ready to reclaim his mining company. Chess "wild one" Watkins, a fierce and fiery cowgirl, never to be wrangled, and always resisting the status quo. And their leader, Jackson "Blackjack" Chamberlain, tall, demanding, and a master of the old deck of cards. They've returned with a menacing and twisted machine so big and brazen, the likes of it have never been seen. The tallest of its kind. The fastest speeds. The wildest maneuvers ever attempted. Upside down, inside-out, sideways, slantways, over, and over, and over. They're back and they're here with a steel vengeance. Frontiertown. Cedar Point. 2018.

    Hello
How was riding son of beast?. Is it the roughest and most jackhammering wood coaster u ever rode?. Is it worse than mean streak?. How u feel when u got off of it? What years you ride it?.

    • @SeanFlaharty

Riding Son of Beast was challenging. Out of the couple hundred rides I took on it, I only had a couple rides that weren't all that bad. Most of my rides were taken during photo and video shoots as I normally wouldn't be riding it that many times on a more normal day. It was the roughest wooden coaster I have ridden. No question. The jackhammering didn't feel like the jackhammering on Mean Streak. It was different. I didn't exactly feel bad after riding it but I certainly realized there were much better options in the park. My first ride was exactly at midnight during July of 2000. I was too busy to give it a ride before that. I rode it only twice once the vertical loop was removed. I decided to not go through the hassle or riding it anymore so I kind of ignored the ride up until it was removed.

Thanks for reply. The forces on "Sonny" were strong in some areas, but I am not certain they were the strongest of any coaster. I have ridden quite a few coasters that were stronger in the forces department, but weren't nearly as rough as this coaster was. I was never a fan of the trains on this thing either. The loop was damn near perfect on the ride.
