  • It’s rare when an MBA candidate doesn’t have a single blemish on an application to Harvard Business School or Stanford Graduate School of Business. After all, the hurdles are high, from the raw GPAs and standardized test scores, work experience and accomplishments.
Nick checks every box. He has a 3.98 GPA from Harvard College where he majored in economics. He’s got a 770 GMAT score. And he is a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve as well as an analyst at McKinsey & Co. Nick also founded a Special Olympics tennis program, among other extras that demonstrate his interest beyond himself.
So it was no surprise that he interviewed at HBS last week, and it will be none too surprising if he is also invited to interview at Stanford which will send out most of its admission invites over the next week or so. For Nick, real question is how can he possibly get rejected.
In this episode of Friday’s With Sandy, Nick gets assessment by HBSGuru.com founder Sandy Kreisberg and P&Q founder John A. Byrne.

Extraordinary profile, more than that I think he has explored 2 completely lifestyles, one in corporate, other in military. That adds a lot of value to the personality and perception.

In all actuality not much more than a regular veteran. It will not cover up for low GPA/GMAT but you will for sure get into any reasonable target and a perhaps even an M7 if your profile isn’t weak.

4-8% in hbs are military ..and also consider the fact that there are less applicants from that line so there are way higher chances not only that he worked at McKinsey and his dad's a senator so no doubt Hes in harvard

It’s simply because white guys make up a disproportionately large proportion of the applicant pool and, rightly so, schools want a representative selection of students. As a result, competition will be higher for white guys - it’s not as though being a white male precludes you from being appreciated as a person, it’s just a fact of admissions.
