Excellent review! nobody talks about the adaptive transmission I don't care whether you have an SL or an SL 55. You must reset it once every three months! Mercedes constantly puts out there speed ratings slower than what actually the car does! I have a common SL and it goes 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds! That's all the the speed you really need! the majority of these cars are driven by old men and women still! they drive below the speed limit! 90% of these cars are taking care of! weekend drivers etc. These SL's never age in appearance!I Remember you're buying a $95,000 car so the repairs are most expensive the good news is that where is the cost of the repairs of these cars 10 years ago you could often get it for 1/3 very expensive no doubt. For God sakes if you are a normal driver get a radar detector you would easily exceed the speed limit by 10 to 15. The right in these cars are absolutely fantastic! but beware they have a lot of suspension problems and you need to set aside $2000.
Nice review! I don't agree though with the comment on the interior colour - the light grey is the coolest you can have, it gives a soft touch of luxury and distinction even if it is a sports car. Mostcars have black interior, yuk, so boring. This interior colour was what I looked for among other specs when buying mine. Also, those wheels don't do justice to the car, imho. I prefer it with the 2-piece AMG 19 inch with rivets.

Mercedes did not went crazy with the buttons, they just had good engineers at that time!.....Toady you need to swipe a touch screen to let something happen. I prefer the button!
In the video I made a mistake to say that the car weighs 2200 pounds (1 ton), its actually 4400 pounds!
Good review. However, his comments on the grey vs black interior are very subjective. I personally like the grey interior much better, and that also depends on the place you live. Here in South Florida we have super hot and humid weather year round, and a black interior is a no-go for any car.

I would definitely go for the grey interior. Most cars have a black interior, how boring is that?
Also how are heated seats "very advanced" for 2004? The MK2 Golf had heated seats in the 1980s.

You should have the interior get cleaned - it’s recommend after 16 years also for dark interiors
The 08 models were the last and the best, the ABC System's quirks had been sorted and the gearbox was slightly faster but, really it's not that noticeable. A simple pulley upgrade and tune will net you over an extra 100bhp! the engines are bulletproof and are capable of handling up to 700bhp before you need to upgrade the internals.
don't agree, the 08 models completely ruined the look of the R230. It's like they tried to make a Mustang out of an SL...

Lambochaser I believe the SLR was in fact a hypercar due to the low production and rarity of the car. There were only around 2000 produced vs around 15000+ of the equivalent Ferrari of the time, the F430.

Lambochaser to be honest I think its open for interpretation, Ive seen some car reviewers call it a hypercar and others a supercar...so Im not really sure either haha
