Where possible, all links are affiliate links, this youtube thing is an expensive endeavor and every little bit helps.
I want this radio more and more every day.
I won't tell you its on sale now, or that when its not on sale I can get you $15 off... ALL THE RADIOS!!! I don't have any problem with this rig. Its not fancy, but it over-delivers as a basic radio.
Det er en temmelig god radio for POTA, men den har ikke RIT. Og ingen SWR-måler, så du må ta med det eller kanskje en NanoVNA. Så langt har jeg hatt omtrent seks POTA hunter QSOs CW med min. Liten nok for flyselskapet. 73 de W8IJN
I get about 7 this Radio is underated its a solid littke performer .
Nice!
The variation was a little odd but at least you're getting more power than advertised instead of less.
I was pleasantly surprised.
As long as it's not crazy high no worries.
I love my 106, I think about using it on Field Day, with my home brew mag loop..
Go for it!
I love my G106, its a fantastic bit of kit! Worth every penny and does what it says on the tin! Mines still on version 1 firmware, I need to get the lead to do the update to the latest version....
Check out my video on it. Its an easy upgrade and pretty safe!
@temporarilyoffline yes thanks, I have already seen it.. kinda inspired me to do the upgrade.. however the leads are not so easily available in the UK but i will get one and sort it! Thanks!
Have you tried ebay? ebay.us/R6LhTC @@bungle6668
It’s an interesting radio. At the very least worth what you pay for. The active scope is nice. Probably the easiest rig to go digital on.
I've been over-impressed with it - I had low expectations :-)
Thanks for your review. I personally think the Xeigu G90 is a better value with 20 watts output, a great ATU, a waterfall, adjustable bandpass filter, adjustable mic gain and speech compression. What are your thoughts?
I agree the g106 is under valued for its price. I hate to say it's overpriced because it is a better radio than other QRP voice rigs, it's well polished. The g90 is an amazing value at its price point, but it's rough around the edges.
@@temporarilyoffline Thanks! Any thoughts about testing the g106 with the Xeigu XPA125B?
@@temporarilyoffline i love my G90. LOL
@@dan_in_sd Its a great radio!
@@jonmcadams5401 Its on the list! Just clearing the space in the schedule for it.
Hi Steve !!! .... I'm selling my old TS-130SE to get something a bit more modern .. I like the reviews on the G106 !!! ... I used to be a hardcore contester but have mellowed a lot at age 65 HIHI ...... having a tiny budget (fixed income sucks !!) and the fact I love QRP I think the rig would be a good fit here !!! .... de George , N2JNZ
It's a pretty decent bare bones rig
Your results make me wonder if playing with the band pass toroid winding positions wouldn’t give you improved results. It may be time to crack this thing open.
Its tweaking time!
Thinking the same thing, especially since 30m is lower than any other band. Part of the way the filters are arranged, I bet.
What is the meter that you're using? I would like to acquire one. If you have an affiliate link, I'd purchase it there. Thanks for sharing your work! de KC1JMH
Hello Bradley - that the MFJ-849 - I love the big digital readout! I could never tell "accurately" with my needle meters, so here we are. Thanks for the offer on the affiliate link, but there currently aren't any for sale with a linkable setup. You can get it directly from MFJ: mfjenterprises.com/products/mfj-849 Or you can get some knockoffs on amazon (MFJ doens't actually make it): amzn.to/3m0CAhR
@@temporarilyoffline Thank!!
I like it but lack of RIT makes it a no buy for me
I can see that. I use RIT a lot for CW.
Did you overclock it?
Not yet... 😇
i'm having weird results using microwave magnet as free toroids
sorry to hear that.
HUmm....
Finally a Xiegu radio that gives more than it was marketed to do!!
