I am really happy with the way it turned out. I figured if I was going to make one I might as well show other mustang fans the process. Thanks again for the ideas and inspiration.
Thanks for the great feedback, there does appear to be some interest in me making these. You are correct that I could crank these out. I just wouldn't feel good about charging people as much as it would take to make it a profitable business.
this is awesome! i plan on getting a 03-04 mach 1 when i get back from basic training for the army, when i do...im def doing this...awesome idea man mad props
sheez Proud of u buddy..thats what a call a smart person and a great job everyone should know that when you want to achieve you can do it no matter what. excellent video.
It was very kind of you to share this great feedback, thank you for watching and taking the time to post. Your words mean a lot to me, you are appreciated.
Thanks for the great feedback, and good luck on your project. If you take your car to shows, a hand made one of a kind liner like this sets you appart. Other mustang nuts and the judges usually ask me where I bought it.
man that came out really nice, and whats crazy is a shop will charge you a arm and a led for that and what was that like $30.00 bucks for everything. really nice...
Man, that is sooooo cool, i always tought about how ugly the trunk looked on my car, you gave me a great idea, plus, i have a piece of fabric and some wood laying around so this will be piece of cake and super cheap, thanks!!
Thank you for the nice feedback. I have another video on this channel called "Installing Strip Lights in the Trunk of a 2001 Mustang" that you should check out. In it I walk you through how to make and install the LED strips. I hope you have fun with your project.
Thanks for the feedback, yes that is 1/4" plywood, the velcro is tough stuff, you should staple the velcro to the plywood (left that step out of the vid). It is possible that your subs could rumble the velcro apart but there is only one way to find out. Good luck man, I would love to see your bass test!
Great job man!!!! I’m doing my 09 Mustang. I am going to install the LED lights in the trunk like your other video then do the liner. Thanks for the help
A fabric store. Pretty much all of them will have it, I got a few small samples and tested them against the trunk material before deciding on the smoke color. Amazon has a link to an online fabric store too, product there is called "Smoke Gray Wool Felt". Good luck.
Search for embroidery shops in your area, if you have a Bullitt the font was called Broadway, but the B in Bullitt had to be handmade. I took in a rubbing from the kick plate in my car so we could make sure the font turned out perfectly. The lettering in mine was done using vinyl iron on lettering like you see on tee shirts (only thicker), it worked very well for me and was less expensive than embroidery, though embroidery would have been cool too.
It came out great. Can't get the Velcro to keep it up there. Every couple of time opening the trunk it on floor. I put 4 feet worth on there. The only fun part was wrapping it in fabric. I
Thank you for hanging in there for the full 17 minutes, I try to keep these videos short, but sometimes they take more time than they should. Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice comment.
where did you find the letters to embroider them on the fabric?? I've searched numerous arts and craft stores and none of them carried the letters. thanks for all your help!!
I had that done at an embroidery shop, originally I was going to have them embroider the logo on the material, but that proved to be too expensive (more than 100). I liked the vinyl lettering though and it was much more affordable at 20 dollars.
Sorry to hear this man, I really have to work to tear mine down from the trunk lid, I used "Velcro Extreme Tape", you can find it on amazon, or the home depot. If that's the same stuff you used, I am not sure what's up.
Im wondering if this would work with the underside of the hood too? Either to just put over the grey heat absorber thing under the hood (cant think of the name of it lol) for car shows or to leave it there permanently
I would not recommend a DIY hood liner. It get's hot under there. 3M does make a spray adhesive that can take the high heat, but I would be very careful about the materials you choose to put in your engine compartment.
I'm going to do this with my 01 cobra but going to look into finding a better way to attach it. Do you know how the that you can buy attach? I wonder If I could use them push pins that you use for attaching panels? Either way I'm saving this video it turned out well.
Hey I hope this hadn’t been asked yet I see a ton of comments. If you were going to make one of these to mount storage to, like the covercraft ones available, how much thicker do you think you could get the plywood to bear the weight while not getting in the way of closing the trunk?
I was going to send you to Gonzo who runs a 1 man hood liner shop, hoodliners dot net, evidently he is battling a serious illness right now and has put his business on hold. Sadly I don't have another recommendation for you. Hopefully he is out of the woods soon and back in action.
I think you should add up material is which you said was 80 buck and add 10 - 15 bucks for every hour it takes to build and then charge that amount for one so im trying to say sell them from 100-120 apiece if u wanna make money
great job! not sure how i got here, but that is amazing. looks factory. only thing that could make it different or better would be if you embroidered it but no point in spending that money for something in the trunk.
I would be willing to purchase the trunk liner from you or just the wood template but would be happy to pay you for you great work, are you willing to make me the exact one for mu Bullitt.?
You are very kind to offer, I have been surprised and flattered by all the people who would like me to make these for them. I am just too meticulous and slow to make a profit. Rest assured though, you can make one better than this and take pride in how nice it turns out.
You are very kind, but I couldn't take your money. There are options out there if you want something premade that's almost as good. I do think you could make one though, and you'll be really proud of it if you do.
I am starting to think I should start making and selling these, but sorry to say that no I didn't plan to turn this into a product/business so I don't have a way to sell them and wouldn't even know what to charge. My goal was to show other mustang owners how to duplicate it if they liked the idea. I am honored that you would want me to make one for you though.
Hey Auto DIY, how is the longevity of your trunk lid mat holding up? I decided to make one for my 04 Cobra after watching your video. I had to do several revisions while making it, I couldn't find the same fabric locally. After issues with glue bleeding through, and the vinyl letters not sticking (girlfriend does made them) I finally got it made and it looks amazing! Only issue now is getting the velcro to stick to it. I will try the staple idea next, just seen that in the comments. Awesome video btw, I'm glad I did this. Does your velcro still hold after this many years?
+Arct1czer0 That extreme Velcro stuff is super strong, the Velcro's adhesive on the wood just didn't want to hold when the sun warmed it up. After stapling the Velcro to the liner it hasn't budged. It is a big hit at car shows as I am sure yours will be. Thanks for posting your feedback.
Thank you for the sub, and great feedback, any fabric store will have it, ask for wool in a color called "smoke", yes in my case I went with vinyl lettering, originally I was going to do custom embroidery but it blew the price up too high for a trunk liner IMO. The vinyl letters created the effect I wanted for a fraction of the price. Good luck with your project.
I went to a fabric store and I bought some felt that almost matches the trunk perfect!! It was way cheaper than wool. Auto DIY, are you sure you used wool and not felt? Wool was $30+ a yard where I went.
+Auto DIY I'm working on the project now and was looking for wool in smoke color. The closest I came to was a mix of wool and rayon I believe? When I pressed about actual wool I was told that would be extremely difficult to find and that the blend was a stronger product? Looks just like yours
Hello, I made my own mat from this video also it I did not use wool. I found felt that is almost an exact match to the trunk and if I remember right, it cost me under $10 Garry Sent from my iPhone
this trunk liner should come with the bullitt. very nice work
What a great complement! Thank you for watching and posting.
I am really happy with the way it turned out. I figured if I was going to make one I might as well show other mustang fans the process. Thanks again for the ideas and inspiration.
Very nice, now I want to make one for my cobra , thanks for sharing this video

didn't expect to give a thumbs up tonight...you got 1 !
You'll love your Mach1, those shaker hoods are badass! Thank you for the great feedback, I appreciate it. Good luck in basic, stay safe out there.
closed himself in the trunk lol. great vid really helpful.
Wow, that's a fantastic job. I knew the technique but the Velcro idea is perfect. I'm making one this week. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for taking the time to leave your positive feedback, I hope you have fun with your project.
I am glad you like it, I would love to see how yours turns out. Thank you for taking the time to leave such nice feedback.

I just made mine today. Did the LEDs last week. Only put 20 LEDs though. Thanks for the video. PS: You made the templating part look easy.
nice job man..great idea thanks for the demo
Thank you for watching and posting your kind feedback.
WOW That Is Bad Ass Man I Think Im Going To Try This On My 98 Mustang I WIll Let You Know How It Comes Out But Bad Ass Video Man And IT Looks Sick!!!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, I am glad you like it.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate the kind feedback.
I haven't used mirror inserts, but I have seen others who have used plexi (easier to cut) and they do look good.
Great job on that cover looks awesome
Thank you for watching and posting your kind feedback.
Not a problem your welcome
That looks so great man, major props!
Thank you for the nice comment, you are appreciated.
Thanks so much, I will eventually use these tips to create one for my 03 Cobra!👍

awesome idea. Got mine installed today. Looks awesome.
+Jon Rohrbaugh Love it, thanks for posting your feedback.
+Auto DIY hey man can you give me a list of stuff you used to do your own trunk lid
Randomly found this but awesome tutorial man! Might have to do something like this now! lol You earned a sub and a like for sure my friend :)
I am glad you found this, and thank you for the like, sub, and for taking the time to leave such nice feedback, I sincerely appreciate it.
Thank you for the sub, I appreciate your positive feedback. I hope it turns out even better than you expect it to.
Is the Velcro glue failing or the Velcro itself isn't holding? If the glue isn't sticking to the liner you made, try stapling the Velcro to the liner.
Awesome job man looks great ill be doing that to my Cobra very soon!
That was a great how to!!! I have been wanting to do one for me 03 Cobra but can't find the fabric that you had in your video.
Thats freakin super slick! Good job man!
Great feedback, glad that you dig it. Thanks for watching
The fabric was called smoke wool, check with a fabric store near you and ask for help, hopefully they will be able to hook you up.
Looks great! And thanks for the informative well presented video, really helpful. Cheers
Matthew Dougan Thanks taking the time to leave the positive feedback, I appreciate it.
Very and detailed tutorial. I am definitely doing this. Subscribed!
Awesome, how did it turn out? Thanks for the great feedback, sorry about making it look easy, was it at least a fun project?
Great job man. I will try to do the same for my 05 GT.
This looks great. Great job.
That looks good and truly inspiring.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to post your kind and generous feedback.
Font is size 250 in MS word, the font style is Broadway with a customized B to match the logo.
It came out great. Can't get the Velcro to keep it up there. Every couple of time opening the trunk it on floor. I put 4 feet worth on there. The only fun part was wrapping it in fabric. I
Wow!! really really nice!! I actually watched all 17 min lol

Awesome video. Detailed. Thank you
Thank you for watching and taking the time to post your kind feedback.
Thanks man, this was a fun one. Now if I could just make my own bed rug for my truck... ;>
where did you find the letters to embroider them on the fabric?? I've searched numerous arts and craft stores and none of them carried the letters. thanks for all your help!!
I suppose you could, the 3M adhesive is amazing stuff. Good luck with it.
I had that done at an embroidery shop, originally I was going to have them embroider the logo on the material, but that proved to be too expensive (more than 100). I liked the vinyl lettering though and it was much more affordable at 20 dollars.

Glue is fine. Stapled it like you said below. Its the Velcro itself. I bought industrial strength. I think I might have to screw it on. :(
Thank you for the very kind feedback, it was less than 75 dollars but could have been less. The complete materials list is in the description.
Bro this video was so helpful thank you so much great work
Thanks for watching and posting your positive feedback.
can i follow the same steps to customize the entire trunk , floor and sides?
Im wondering if this would work with the underside of the hood too? Either to just put over the grey heat absorber thing under the hood (cant think of the name of it lol) for car shows or to leave it there permanently
I would not recommend a DIY hood liner. It get's hot under there. 3M does make a spray adhesive that can take the high heat, but I would be very careful about the materials you choose to put in your engine compartment.
Super nice man
Nice work and great vid bro you actually explain how to
Thanks for watching and posting your kind feedback.
Can you do a video on how to do the lower half to like inclose the truck with speakers
Great vid. Fantastic job. Might want to sell these if you can get some interest. Nothing like a little disposable cash in your hand.
Pretty neet!! Love the bullitt
How did u cut the inside cuts? I saw u cut the pointed corners. I’m having trouble with that.
I'm going to do this with my 01 cobra but going to look into finding a better way to attach it. Do you know how the that you can buy attach? I wonder If I could use them push pins that you use for attaching panels? Either way I'm saving this video it turned out well.
sweet job man , good work
that is so awesome! great work! i would totally pay you to make me one.
You did a great job dude, very awesome :)

this was a very awesome and detailed video all in all how much did this cost you?
I am also looking for an under the hood liner with Bullitt on it would you know where something like that can be purchased?
I was going to send you to Gonzo who runs a 1 man hood liner shop, hoodliners dot net, evidently he is battling a serious illness right now and has put his business on hold. Sadly I don't have another recommendation for you. Hopefully he is out of the woods soon and back in action.
do you know where I can purchase a trunk lid liner , I have had no luck searching
Pretty sweet!

great job! not sure how i got here, but that is amazing. looks factory. only thing that could make it different or better would be if you embroidered it but no point in spending that money for something in the trunk.
where did you obtain the "Bullitt" letters??

I know this is an old video, but how much would you say the whole panel weighs?
Maybe 6 ounces? It is very light, it is just thin plywood, foam, staples and fabric.
Thank you. Figured it was light
- I Would Like To Know, Where Can I Buy That Trunk Net You Have ? help! Have A Nice Day
There are a few for sale on ebay, search for your model year Mustang "Cargo Net", good luck.
Great Video
Roughly 75 to 80 in materials to make 1.
Very nice, What would you charge to make me one of those?
Well done man
perfect!!!!

Question how much did it cost you total?
Cool! I know what I'm doing next weekend.
