Richard finds a bona fide cool kid in the audience and inexpertly attempts to mock him (you’d think he’d be better at comedy after all these years, but no), before introducing a force of nature and veritable river of consciousness, Tony Law, in his new mutton-chopped, ice-cream eating, alcohol-shunning, heavenly body impersonating incarnation.
It’s like his brain is a radio and someone is constantly swivelling the dial so that one moment you’re on history, then fantasy, then insanity and then pinpoint sane philosophy. It’s a discombobulating journey to go on, especially if, like Richard, you’re getting a bit tired, but Herring gamely attempts (and largely fails) to get some questions in.
In the end he more or less gives in, but Law is an unstoppable force of nature and cannot be silenced. Though the fear is that at any point something might happen to upset the fragile mental balance that somehow remains teetering on equilibrium and that thing might very well be Desert Island Dicks. Finally when the conversation turns to the supernatural things start to make sense. But Richard is knocked out and defeated and was right to say he wasn’t looking forward to writing this blurb.

This is amazing, surrealism mixed with moments of absolute honesty and self-awareness. I don't think I've seen anything like it.
This might be Tony Law's best performance, I'm dying here.
Tony is a comedy genius. Thanks, Richard!
Insanity. I got fired today and this cheered me up a lot. Thanks Rich!
Excellent guest. These first episodes are setting the bar high for the rest of the series.
That was very funny. It went of the rails straight away. Brilliant, nice one Richard!!
Tony Law fucking DESTROYS comedy! God I love him!
nearly cried with laughter on the tube listening to Tony Law - legend!!
I don't know what I just watched but I want more.
Seriously, this is probably the 10th time I've watched this. Definitely 8+. Purely belter.
Still watching 7 years later, it’s so funny
My face hurts from laughing 😂
Loved Richard trying to get a word in, but wisely giving up and letting Tony go....'til he got tired enough to let him get an entire question in! lol excellent episode.
Tony's hilarious 😁
Tony Law is absolutely fantastic.
Ok, watched this last night. Still trying to comprehend what it is that I saw... Tony is an interesting fella, and this is my first exposure to him. Thanks Richard!
I really enjoyed that. Thanks, Richard.
Tony Law live is something you have to experience!
This gets better each time I watch it.
Greetings from Montreal, Canada... Had a cramp laughing during the Richards bit.
Jesus, I'm exhausted just watching Tony Law talk.. he seems like one of those comedians who can't switch off, who has a hard time giving an actual answer to a question.
Tony looks like he is slowly morphing into Old Biff from Back To The Future 2
I listened to this on one of my midnight bike rides and had to keep stopping up the hills because of all the laughter in my legs!
Lion-o from Thundercats has let himself go.
*High Five*
thumbs up :D
That was really funny. It was good to have a guest like this as I always enjoy your reactions as you struggle to interview difficult guests. 😃
Great to see that it wasn't the booze that made Tony so awesome though. I've always been a fan, but he's much more interesting now. Big difference between funny drunk nonsense and just plain funny nonsense. Well done Tony, it must be hard to have your past on record, I'm certainly glad mine isn't!
Crowd certainly got their money's worth. Good guest.. didn't have a clue what to expect.. you, him, and the audience :-)
This has to be my favourite RHLSTP.........well top 5 definitely. Awesome.
If I'd never googled Tony Law I'd of never known this was Tony Law
Absolutely hilarious 💚
and incredible show, thank you richard and tony
One of the best podcasts I've seen Tony law is hilarious
This man is my spirit animal… and I love him very much 👍
I love it when Tony just goes mid flow "I dont know what I'm doing, I dont know how to do this"
Tony is amazing. This is the first time I've laughed at one of these podcasts. Usually find them too straight or just boring, especially when RH and guest start discussing the art of comedy. Please.
Well done for persisting and finding one you liked.
I like how Rich looks kinda lost for a lot of this interview while Tony is speaking.
It's like he's afraid Richard will take the piss so just continuously speaks out of lack of self-esteem. See this more often with female comics and it irritates the shit out of me. What would have been funny is destroyed
I think you thought Law was being serious, when it was just a character he was putting on. Watched a lot of these now and I thought this was one of the funniest podcasts, if not a true conversation/interview- Law doing his thing while Herring looks disconcerted and bemused. I personally found Law much funnier than Ross Noble, who had a similar approach.
Brain Stormer Agree with everything you said!!
At first I was afraid (I was petrified), then I found it awkward, then embarrassing, then irritating, but then interesting, and then funny and finally fucking hilarious. I never "got" him before, til now. Revelation.
Some man for one man. Who would you twin him with
Trying to get me friends into him but it's off putting telling them to give him a chance. Get through the 8nitial emotions/judgements
Me oh my, fantastic lashings. I fine example of cross pollinating Canadian flow. I am enamored and in awe
You handled that like a King; Tony Can Talk
Tony's Wolverine transformation is almost complete.
why can I not get the image of a con-joined Fascinator on Eugenie and Beatrices' heads, out of my head?..
..it's just too much for one head to handle.....
Oh Richard, you did sleep well that night.
Thanks for the upload Rich
'ill probably follow you out' Excellent!
I see so much of myself in him when I give up drinking for a while. It's all about self-confidence and control.
I fell asleep just after watching this and dreamed that I was getting onto the train that goes to the Studio Ghibli museum, at the same time as Richard Herring who was chatting with Simon Bligh, but I was distracted by a crowd of uncharacteristically flirtatious, hot Japanese girls. I deeply regret missing that dream opportunity.
That was bizarre. Very entertaining though, both did great work there.
Love him ….he keeps it real.
still the best episode
Wonderful!
Probably the tastiest bit of 9ff kilter skill and abundant verbal sum game levitation. Sorry I went verbois. Amazeballs
Crowd certainly got their money's worth. Good guest.. didn't have a clue what to expect.. you, him, and the audience :-) .. I can't be the only one who wondered if he'd been putting something up his nose pre interview.
"Don't be a dick" is what I say to myself every.....other day. Forgot about that moment lmao
Can I make a suggestion that you edit all the video thumbnails to show the guest, instead of your mug as most of them do?
you can make that suggestion by all means
Yes but that would imply his guests were better than him. He is the one who made "Cat milk" a thing.
But the idea is these are all free so it's easier to just pull them off the recording device and slap them up on RUclips. Let RUclips sort out the encoding etc. Having to do more such as changing the thumbs would take time. And if I wasn't making much from the RUclips videos, as I suspect Richard doesn't, I wouldn't bother putting in the effort.
Besides, better just natural like MikesElectricStuff :)
I find reading the title a great way to find out who the guest is.
My copy of Persian Fire fell off the shelf last night.
Could series 9 end up being the best yet?
The evening slots makes a huge difference. Iain Lee and Tony Law are an excellent first "fortnight" - shows the mad range of this show.
Sorry poor sound and no captions! I'm v deaf but this stuff is right up my street
That was very entertaining :) Is Tony Law like this all the time is or is that his stage persona?
Best ever
Listened to the audio version, felt like I was tripping.
I love when Tony goes off on a tagent ( one of his many) and just starts talking about tajikistan.
Tony is a history fan and wants to walk the Silk Road. I wanna go too
i'm crying, this is so funny
this is best
I think we should re-make 'The Trip' and have these two replace Steve and Rob... if failing that then Tim From the Office and A Shrek would be equally good.
effing awsome
Tony!
:D So Awesome!
OH GOD NO SOMEONE PUT HIS FACIAL HAIR BACK ON
Didnt Recognise Tony law without his cavalier tash and beard. My god can that Guy talk total Bollocks. Would like to see him being Interviewed by the Financial Advisor Max Keiser
that escalated quickly....
Whatever this is I want more of it.
It's like wringing out a wet towel slowly.
pepper! Full of pepper!
If for any reason you feel that the format needs a slight change and you decide to do 2 guests at the same time. I would love to see you try and interview Tony Law and Ross Noble together, I have a feeling it would be like ghostbusters crossing the streams and something truly spectacular would happen.
Tony Law is so funny! Looks quite different now
If Wolverine & The Fonz had a blonde man baby - Tony Law!
these 2 could be brothers
ah.... sooooo funny. just great.
I love Tony. He does have a strikingly large head though. x
I didn't recognise him at all until he starting speaking. He seriously needs the beard back.
This is what happens if you put Wolverine and Doc Brown* in the small hadron collider.
*That one, not that one.
There's nothing else like this
I lasted until 23:17, Tony Law is bonkers, I can't cope with him. He's making me dizzy!
I'm with you. Tiring... aimless trains of thought. I can't take it.
A big James Hetfield vibe going on!
It's all Tony's fault
I thought you were dead, sorry wow where did you get you Ipad from???
Helluva a guy
Sober Tony looks like Greg Davies fallen on hard times.
Actually no, he looks like Greg has tried to swallow Rich Fulcher but Rich is slowly becoming Greg from the inside.
shit the bed that was funny
Herring you thief.. this is basically a rip off of robert llewelyn's carpool.. but not in a car! whats up can't you drive? any chance you can get actor william gaunt on?
guilty as charged. William Gaunt played the voice of Nostradamus in my play "It's Not the end of the world"
+Richard Herring i had older brothers who made me watch videos of the champions and when no place like home came on i thought, "its the guy out of the champions but grown up with kids! why won't he use his powers to kick shit out of martin clunes"!
tony law is incredible. fat. but incredible.
I couldn't turn this off I ended up kicking my daughters dolls house by accident as I couldn't put the phone down going for a late night pee
What's with Todger Guppy and his oversized genitalia? Urethra hats? His room 101 might be interesting.
I'm newIy fat.....
From that point on it was 10/10, incredible 😆
can I buy a badge for 99p a month?
no
+Richard Herring ah well. it'll have to be a pound then.
Well that was the weirdest and most uncomfortable episode ever. I hope a psychiatric nurse was standing by (talking of which - get Jo Brand on?!)
Very poor, i think the interviewee took the calamity jane act a tad far. Bring back David Ross for Christ sake
Tony is not a great fit for this style of interview
Wow! Tony Law is completely uninterviewable!
...in a good way! If I ever commit any of the terrible crimes I have in mind, I want him to represent me in court.
Why does he sound like he's drunk when he's quit drinking? Oh, the lost brain cells he mentioned at the start I just figured as I typed. His listening cells disappeared too judging from 23 minutes in. The man needs to switch off the character and just get on Richard's wavelength...gah
wooooooooosh
