    Great video and very informative. It was great to see How to wear every item. I was surprised by the basic design of the Type 99 Tako backpack. It looks like an evolution of the prussian style backpack we use in the parade uniform of the Chilean Army's Escuela Militar (Officer School) and in a simplified form in the NCO School. The "marmita"( I don't know the English Word for the metal food container and pot combination) looks very simmilar. Our packs had a wooden frame and were fastened to the ammo pouches via bronce hooks. But the principle is the same. I also got to use the last model of field pack with the poncho and cloth objects tied in a horseshoe shape around the pack. I understand that contemporary school backpacks used by children in Japan are based on old European Military models, maybe there is a conection but I don't know.

I was told this when I was an adult, and told my grandmother who I knew my whole life speaks Japanese fluently but never knew. Forgot how I figured it out but my oldest aunt told me the he never seen combat but was in eastern Russia when WW2 ended. I been in the US army since 2010 now stationed in Germany. I wonder if my grandfather was wearing this.

      Honestly Germany is one of the very few countries in the world that doesn't take pride in it's military history and is filled with self hate.
      Almost everyone else is very proud of their past even if they were just as murderous as Hitler, like in Russia Stalinist statues are still popular and Mao is still on all Chinese banknotes regardless how many more people than Hitler they killed. Even in Italy people aren't particularly negative about dressing up with ww2 uniforms or wearing historical clothes in turkey is something to be proud of regardless of the Armenian genocide.
      The US isn't hating itself about what they did to the indians or in the Philippines or in Guantanamo, gitmo or Afghanistan.
      Really it's just Germans that has been thought from birth that they should not be proud to have almost won fighting against most of the world but to hate themselves for those that died.
      People in Italy are super proud of roman emperors even if Trajan and vespasian killed millions of Jews in the conquest of Judea and the during Jewish rebellion.
      So honestly it's just the Germans hating themselves over their history.

    I am 68 now at the time of this writing. As a young boy born just a decade after the Japanese Imperial Army was defeated in the Philippines, I used to listen to my Uncles, my Aunts, my Grandpa, and last but not the least my Grandma, tell stories about the horrors of what they experienced during the occupation. Most commonly told was the public beheading of some caught collaborating with the local guerillas at the time. What I would most like to tell was, at the time I was growing up at about 8 or 10, there was a song playing on the jukebox across the dtreet where we lived. Moshe moshe anone, and we kids also sang along. My Grandma would run after us maybe to punish us and tell us never to sing Japanese songs again! As a small boy I didn't know that it was Japanese. We just had fun. When I grew older, that was the time I started understanding how my Grandma felt. I also remember they lost their oldest child in a concentration camp. Must have been so hard to forgive these uniformed soldiers of Japan if you came across them, with the memories still fresh on your mind.

      WWII IJA equipment is pretty much a simplified evolution of German equipment from the 1880s/90s. I personally find it more comfortable to wear than German kit since there's less stuff hanging from the belt.

    • @fanta4897
      @fanta4897 2 года назад

      @@hattorihan7503 That would probably depend on the configuration of the german kit. Even if I have all on the belt, it can be made relatively comfortable if I use belt hooks (which would be similar to japanese system, although the japanese seems more simple, but fragile). On the other hand, the japanese kit seems to have a lot of things hanging on shoulder straps which I would assume would have to be very irritating on the shoulders (my shoulders are always sore when I use Y-straps, or even just shoulder strap for gasmask can, since japanese have canteen attached by shoulder strap, then that by itself must be irritating).

I do not understand a word, but am immediately reminded of the thousands of young men who perished in the vast war theatre strewn over China, South-East Asia and the western Pacific, and of whom what little remains are tales of unimaginable bravery, steadfastness and even cruelty towards prisoners and captives.

    As a former Civil War reenactor, I would argue that the haversack and canteen would be the last items put on (haversack before the knapsack though but not the canteen) as that's your food and water carriers. The canteen and haversack would never be strapped under the leather belt or put on first. If you need a drink now, or need to refill your canteen you have to remove everything else to simply get the canteen off! Just my observations. Everything a soldier does and carries has to do with need and functionality first! Civil War soldiers carried similar gear and we always put on our haversack and canteen over the top of everything else.
