Just had a SDR presentation at our radio club meeting a few months back. Night time reception usually negates the 6-20 meter bands, but that diversity feature would be a huge benefit.
I really enjoyed your demo. Amazing what can be done these days. I have 2 RSP1A's and really enjoy them. Don't really have the real estate to put up more antennas and get a Duo for diversification but this feature does create an itch to be sure.
Using Diversity mode on FM here just south of Boston. In the past I've used the Bolin Phase Box for FM phasing but finding that the Diversity mode works better in most instances. My antennas for FM are two 11 element Innov antennas. I'll be trying this mode out on MW and HF over the next couple of weeks using my switched termination 50x100 loop and Wellbrook ALA153O+
Amazing how the Diversity tuning pulled that signal out of the what would be only noise in a single-tuner system. The method seems very similar to the "noise eliminator" devices that use phase shifting and signal deltas to cancel noise. I wonder, with this kind of specialized performance, if a diversity user would be limited to communicating only with other stations that had similar performance (i.e. were using diversity receivers as well, or other sophisticated methods). I own an RSPdx and really enjoy using it with the unbeatable SDRUno software. I may just have to get a diversity-capable RSPDuo now . . . SDRPlay website says that diversity tuning depends on DIRECTIONAL antennas. Were you using directional antennas in this demo? Very nice demonstration in any case, 741. Thanks.
Unfortunately, RUclips have deleted Hangout option but I am looking at other options such as StreamYard. Will be testing it this weekend. So you might get an invite to a test and may not recognize that it is me.
The only thing that gets outdated quicker then a computer is a a sdr play receiver. LOL. They come out with a new one every week it seems. That is a nice feature, but I will stick with my rsp 2 play. Pretty funny you tracking me down on 80 the other night.
The duo had been out for a while now but they do upgrade the software pretty often. It was pure luck that I heard you on....similar to how you busted me a while back. Radio just happened to be on and sitting on that freq when I walked into the room.
Hi again. I have my Duo doing great in the diversity mode. Question: While doing diversity. Do you how I can see two waterfall displays, one for each receiver, at the same time? 73 de WA3RSL
Great video! Thanks. I considering getting the RSP duo for the diversity function. I have an IC-7610. I think I want to use the RX out on the IC-7610 to a Dx engineering RX guard then to ant port 1 on the duo (ant is 400-foot-long wire). Ant Port 2, through another RX guard, then to ant 2 (40m dipole). What do you think. PS, as I type this, I have a Tornado warning here! Yikes. 73 de WA3RSL
I think that will be a nice setup, however, the diversity reception works better when you have two different types of antennas or at least have the antennas oriented in different directions. I hope the Tornado warning was just a precaution and all is well now
I am interested in another type of diversity reception. Is it possible to use SDRduo to listen on left audio channel ant1 and on the right audio channel ant2?
amazing !!! do you think ther is any way to use sdrplay as receiver and any common rtx for transmitter? i think can be a great improvement for dealing whit RFI and any man made noise on our Ham Bands 73 de IK1LBL
Great simplified explanation 741. As a newbie to sdr your content is always a great help. 73's from the UK.
Glad you found this helpful!
Nice work h.ere! Love the examples. I have one but never thought of using the weather channels as a reference! Cool Stuff
I love using the diversity feature. Great show!

This feature is pretty neat. I have to set up some different antennas to realty get the full effect.

Not really...one was a dipole and the other was a vertical
Thank's for this very understandable vidéo !
Darn, I was hoping we could to this together. Good job.
Maybe we can do a live hangout soon and discuss this.

@@hamrad88 OK Tom - I'll keep an eye out.
Great. Every day's a school day.
I haven't turned mine on since I was talking with you. :)

A noise-floor of -105 dBm! You lucky guy! (I have approx. -90 dBm at the same band and at the same time).
I can get it lower if I shut off the mains and run on battery power. I'm lucky to live in the middle of a state forest.

I'm not sure if you can to that in diversity mode.. it's been a while since I've messed with diversity
@@SevenFortyOne OK Thanks.
Extremely useful. Any way to do direction finding ?

2:41 to 2:47 Can you tell me what you think swept across the display? Thanks for your videos.
Could be anything but probably oth radar sweep

Yes, people do that all the time, especially with older radios that don't have feature packed receivers
At 2:40, there is a signal moving from the right to the left, what is it ?
Not sure...could be anything
