All you need to to is let your coins interact with air and do nothing else this is why old coin albums have many toners. I do recommend avoiding humidity because this causes the coin to brown. What I did to help increase my chances was lay out a roll of selected cents on a mat, put cloth over the coins, and then tucked it away. And boy o boy last year I looked and many have a nice rainbow pattern (but there were unattractive ones as well). Its like fine wine it pays to wait and let nature take its course. And thats how you get REAL toning.
I have a naturally-toned Lincoln cent whose color I call "tortoise shell", because its color literally looks like a tortoise shell guitar pick. I don't know what it was previously in contact with or how it achieved its color, but it is absolutely beautiful!
Richard Frye that is cool right on, I got mine off of eBay after BlueRidge told us to buy that set! My quarters also looks ultra cameo and maybe soon they will appreciate!
I've been putting aside the toned coins I've been finding. Thanks to you Blueridge. I'm donating to someone who does tone coins. From your coin community.
I took your great advice on the "sold" errors coins link on ebay and noticed a number of toned coins included today. Also there were a number of coins that had high starting prices that were "met" but that bid, the first was the only bid. My spidey sens tells me shill bid. Any idea on these "sold" coins?
Good looking out on the new video BlueRidge. Just noticed this morning my 2019 silver proof quarters are starting to tone beautifully! I'm in Columbus Ohio so the weather/heat is bipolar lol
That (NGC 81-S) is stunning. How did they NOT give that a STAR? (And since no star...do you blv NGC raised the grade some...due to its unique beauty/eye appeal?) Thank you.
I am truly very Grateful that you share your knowledge in all that you know about the hoppy. I swear to God every video I learn something new on your channel. Just an awesome vid.😎🤘
I personally Love toning but only the natural way, through time. Because it Absolutely speaks to the history of the piece. It's like NATURE'S C.A.C. STICKER. With a bit of nice artful designs & colors. another wonderful video.
Artificial fake toning is meant to fool the marketplace for profit. It's not artistic it's forgery. Rather than pay 10x for a toner get yourself a set of rainbow silverware for $30 and stop chasing fake color on coins.
I'm new to all this. I came across one of your videos talking about roll hunting and decided to give it a try. The first roll of Kennedy half dollars I opened had several 2022s with some crazy colorful toning on them. If I send you some pictures would you be able to tell me if it was done artificially? Would it be possible for these to be some kind of something that happened in the minting process? I also just recently watched a video you made talking about all the mess ups in the mints this year.
Hey Shaun, I was @ my LCS lookin for some Silver with my daughter. He had some 1993 Eagles that are Deep blue with some greens, quantities of red/pink n yellows. My 1st thought was "artificial" toning. He stated that they were not artificial toned. I'm still sceptical of that. However @ $15 each @ the time.. of course my daughter and I walked out with 2 each.. What is a good way to send ya a few pics for your Expert opinion?
I bought 3 I think are fake toned but I got them for melt back in spring. Normally I prefer natural. But the silver content is there and the price was right.
Hi Mr shaun , great topic and tonin in silver coins are beautiful , not much experience from my side but your experience has no limits ☺👍 what do you think toning on Kennedy proof half dollars in PCGS slabs ?
Back in the old days there was not much talk relegated to colorful toned coins. They were anomalous, and tarnish was simply understood as a fact of life and not particularly helpful nor detrimental when evaluating the condition of a coin. Now, in recent times with ubiquitous color imagery and millisecond communication, there is an emphasis on toning and luster which is distracting and upsetting the normal course of grading coins. I'm very amused as I watch the youngsters and newbies "not get it" when it comes to valuing luster and tone and all the negative consequences of doing this. I can't help but conclude that the old-timers foresaw this happening and that was why hey always downplayed lustre and tone as anomalies.
I have saved dozens of half dollars with various shades of toning which I found during my hunt for silver. Everything from shades of yellow and gold to rainbows and complete black. Didn't know there was people looking for these, just hung onto them because they were different and I wasn't finding much silver.
Good video. On toned coins the grading companies wont assign a grade on artificially toned pieces i thought they rejected them/ send back. ? Some are quite beautiful. Thank you .
How do they get so dark? I have several Morgan's that were wrapped in an old handkerchief in a draw for so long untouched and the heat was always on but some coins are super dark! And sole coins have outlines of smaller coins that haven't moved in years and burnt the shape on the back of some peace dollars
Hello BlueRidge . Toning yes some give the coin astounding colors than some so so , I like them gives then character . I had a dime that looked all copper but was heated up in a frying pan I found out 🤬 . Thanks again for the cool colorful video 👍🏽🌵. Hope you feel better fang I mean tooth 🦷 Oooooo the pain 🙏🏾
hey buddy i just got a penny on the reverse is a building that looks foreign like italy or france e pluribus unum is under the building is there any way to send you a picture of it?
I have a coin that's a penny on one side and a dime on one side I know it's worth money how do I go about selling it and I've got some more coins old one's
I have a Lincoln penny that has some beautiful toning on it, but it's like a 197- something, could it be worth anything? Let me know please. 🤔 (Found in coin roll)
I got a 1886 a Morgan dollar that is dark dark. But it is nice. Still can see all the luster under all that dark. Beautiful

Yes the natural toned coins are nurtured, not abused from washes, torches, ovens. Naturals are toned from passive protected storage

Hey if that 1896 ever gets to heavy for ya...just send it my way😊👌
Absolutely stunning blood rose & pink pastel colors. I am drooling 🤤
I have 2009 Anniversary Lincoln cents all toned purple, still in mint set! My American Beautiful Quarters are toning in its album!
I also have a 2009 anniversary Lincoln silver proof set with all cents toning purple and red with some yellow.
Richard Frye that is cool right on, I got mine off of eBay after BlueRidge told us to buy that set! My quarters also looks ultra cameo and maybe soon they will appreciate!
I found myself pausing the video on that last toned Morgan. Just sitting and staring at it. NICE!!
Good to hear you back, and love the content! I had the same question regarding toned coins, so thank you. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I've been putting aside the toned coins I've been finding. Thanks to you Blueridge. I'm donating to someone who does tone coins. From your coin community.
What about for lack of better word granular toning, not just color but heavy texture as well is that damage or something special?

Often buy it now auctions when sold will show as there was 1 bid

I will take a toned coin over a non toned coin any day. It has character and beauty. A 100 year old coin that looks brand new is beautiful as well.

I artificially toned a quarter and it came out gorgeous in a way that it looks like the eagle on the reverse is flapping its wings
I do have quite a few of natural toned coins. Good grade quality too Mostly pennies
They are nice but my big fear is the whole toned coin craze will die out and people will be left holding tarnished coins they paid a ton of money for.
Thank you I have several rainbow type coins.... and silver dollar n half dollars.... This helps.
Excellent! Great info, it helps a lot. I agree, only natural tones. Some people can't just leave things be.

This was Spring 2019
I bought 3 I think are fake toned but I got them for melt back in spring. Normally I prefer natural. But the silver content is there and the price was right.

I love toned coins, and own several. Great video Shaun. 👍
Great Video!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 💋

The Chinese put them in burlap, wrap them tight with butcher's twine, and let them sit in amonium sulfate.... That's what I heard.
Is this true?

What's going on with the toned coin market? What's the latest update?

I have a coin that's a penny on one side and a dime on one side I know it's worth money how do I go about selling it and I've got some more coins old one's
👍
Nice, detailed analysis of toning and the myriad of factors involved. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the ed.😊
Maybe you could do a crossover to pcgs and get a better grade....
There Is no preference for me. My Franklin registry set has both blast white and mint set toned coins
If u leave a penny in vinegar and water to,ulong it'll look like that.those coins may have been cleaned wrong
Nice toned coins 👍
Keep up the vids Bud!
I'm addicted to toners
I'm curious why do you have gloves on when the only coins you're handling that are in good condition are in cases it doesn't make any sense
Hahaha i noticed that to. 😆
Nice video.
Hello
I have a Lincoln penny that has some beautiful toning on it, but it's like a 197- something, could it be worth anything? Let me know please. 🤔 (Found in coin roll)
Sorry but "time" has nothing to do with the toning.
Brightness anbd toning consideratioons have degraded the hobby into an honesty test. Coin color and tarnish should be kept in their place!
Excuse me while I wipe my drool 🤤
message me sir thru my messenger showing you my coins..u getting you intetested aboyt my coins. esp that toned coin
