Rogers Centre recently completed a massive retrofit to the many systems that open and close the expansive retractable roof.
To continue meeting the expectations of fans and promoters, the roof’s infrastructure required significant upgrades to the infrastructure, including a new Operations Technology network and control system.
New Electric would like to thank all the dedicated employees and professional teams who worked with us over the last 2 years to make this large project such a massive success.

Even though its much older, I really like the design, how it kind of swings open like an observatory, instead of just sliding over like most of the retractables today.
Skydome is the perfect baseball stadium, many other parks need to put out tarps during rain lol, for being constructed in the late 80's this building was really ahead of its time.

Mo Hussein Yep. Taxpayers paid $600,000,000 for it, Rogers buys it from the NDP for $40,000,000 less then a third of what the land was worth at the time and they still need to poach the name from the people.
Now it doesn't cater to the elite adequately so we soon will lose the good seats like we did with the hockey.

was on a bus trip through Canada when this place (Sky Dome) was being built and took pictures for me because she knew how much I loved stadiums.

The First retractable roof that actually worked (not counting Olympic Stadium, which NEVER worked right) was Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. Originally built as a concert venue, it had a huge, stainless steel roof that could swivel open, much like SkyDome. It was eventually converted to a hockey arena, but they rarely opened the roof.

If they demolish this icon the city of Toronto is making a MASSIVE mistake. This building is just as iconic as the CN tower. The two are a pair.
It's disgusting how rogers wants to do this, so much history in that building gonna be thrown away into the trash.. Just because rogers needs more money than they already have. I wish they never got into the Canadian sports industry...
It’s for the best to demolish it. Trust me we felt the same over the Kingdome in Seattle but we are much happier with T-Mobile park . The grass field and seating gives it an unreal experience.
@@drointheknow6542 they want to replace it with condos. This is already an equal experience to t-mobile park. The roof opens and they have a grass field, why would they demolish to rebuild the same thing?

When the dome is open it’s an amazing atmosphere. It can feel dull when it’s closed but it can get really loud though.

As a New Yorker, I never understood why Ny sport teams choose not to have a retractable roof such as something like this. I get cost is one factor but it’s cold in the state 5-6 months of the year. Especially during the beginning/end of baseball season and mid/end of football. Not to mention the rain delays or postponed games. I really don’t want to sit at baseball game in 50 degree weather in late April.

With the design of SkyDome's roof does anyone know if it's possible to make the roof open & close faster??
Yes Matt, the roofs design, coupled with the new motors and control systems, could allow for a faster open and close, but the current speeds are an optimal balance for ensuring safety and accommodating changing weather patterns.
@@NewElectricInc Could the smaller "end panel" not start to rotate as soon as the sliding panels on top are clear of it? that would save quite some time without changing speeds no?

The RC has great sightlines to watch a game but the place is filthy. Years of grime, dirt, grease, gunk, embedded crud, chipped paint, etc. It's great that they improved the roof and put in the dirt infield, but how about some basic cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep? Is that in the plans for the RC anytime soon?

Nobody wants to lose this icon of a building. So much history, so much meaning all destroyed by rogers just because they need to fill their pockets even more... If they really go ahead with this I will be sick to my stomach and disgusted. It's a shame rogers got their disgusting hands on this place, as it may be gone soon..
