We had 1974 model Registration no MTX 458, until 1994. We (my father and then myself) combinedly drove it for more than 200000 kms. We also changed engine piston, block, piston rings etc twice but it never ever failed us anywhere. It was bloody so dependable and was built like a gun. I toured on that bike for around 55000- 60000 kms on long route in around 8 years! Before me, my father drove it to 12-13 years. Later, due to parts unavailability and ever falling mileage, we had to sell it (it was sold exactly on the same price in 1994 at which we bought it in 1974 i.e. Rs 7500. 😊 I could never love any bloody other bike to the extent I loved it. It also had interchangeable tyres of front and rear. So, we had fixed a Stepney in place of leg guard for long touring which would protect our legs, engine and also served any tyre when it got punctured. We can't find any other bike with exactly same tyre size (front and rear). This convenience served the purpose at long tours because just replacing the wheel (the stapney which was common for both the front and rear) would help the rider continue his journey even with tubed tyres! Oh, we still miss it so much , so much! It gave pretty good mileage of around 32-35 kmpl for 18-19 years before it was irreparable. It used to vibrate a lot at 80 kmph and more but the build quality, the stability, the bloody good pick up (it used to be called a cheetah) and being easy on maintainance were the features which made it unbeatable! I am always short of words while saying or writing about that bike! 😌 ❤❤❤❤
