Hi Jason. I just received my Tonex One this afternoon and I have to tell you that this video made setting it up a piece of cake. Without question it was the most concise and thorough guide out there. Thanks so much!!
Get this bloke to write the Tonex One manual or simply link his video on the first line of it :-) A great example of someone explaining what on the face of it can be a confusing pedal, when the reality is the opposite...... Good stuff
Now if they would just make the tonex software work real time with the big tonex pedal as well, like everyone thinks it should- that would be awesome. But yes, this pedal is super cool 😎
Sorry to ask, but what do you mean by "in real time"? If you're using the software to play through, do you even need the pedal? Or how does the Tone Pedal not work with the Tone Software? I'm curious. Thanks.
@@hammingusno problem! I would rather be able to use the tonex software as just a controller for my pedal. I am happy just plugged into my pedal board listening to my rig through my studio monitors, but would love to be able to load models and control the tonex pedal while sitting at my desk and searching for presets. I don't care at all about actually running audio through the tonex software. Instead, I have to bypass the tonex pedal, and then unmute the software output of the software in my mixer, find the sounds, move them on to the pedal then listen for the play through on the pedal to make sure everything went over correctly. It's just clunky. I have a boss katana, for instance. I can just hook that up via USB and control the settings on the amplifer (in fact, you have to do it that way for a lot of settings).
Thanks for all the explanations. Will you please show how to setup the software for Windows 10 for initial startup? My latency is about 0.5 seconds between picking the string and the audio coming out of the speaker.
Just like on the full Tonex Pedal, I would say no. If you have set the input trim properly once, you can simply use the Gain control per preset to make changes for different guitars if necessary for your taste. Hope that helps :-)
Thanks for this. In the Librarian it doesn't seem there's a a way to set up the pedal where you can call up several different A/B presets when you're on the road. I want five different A/B pairings, where all my "A"s are clean (say Banks 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13) and all my "B"' s driven (say 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14), and then be able to get to these without a computer. Not seeing how, then again I'm no expert with IK products.
This thing is going to be huge! I'm truly glad I'm already invested in the IK/Tonex ecosystem. A couple of quick questions, is the reverb type selectable on the pedal or just the software? Also, is Presence and Depth adjustable on the software? The IK site made it seem like you don't have those parameters.
It is a very cool little pedal :-) You can only adjust reverb mix on the pedal itself and not depth or presence. You can adjust all of the parameters on the software, save as a preset and load onto Tonex One and keep all those tweaks made in software. Hope that helps :-)
5:21 What does volume do if compressor is disabled in the preset? It shouldn't matter whether compressor is pre or post if it is bypassed, right? Similarly, what do the ALT params NG, compressor and reverb do on the pedal if the corresponding block is disabled in the preset?
what would be awesome is if they do an update where you can bypass in duo mode , it's just hard to imagine how though maybe like 2 fast clicks of the main button. . could be to much lol .when I'm using the app I can't figure out how to not hear the amp models below and the ones in the main 20 banks in Librarian mode simultaneously . I could have a clean fender on bank 1 and if i was trying out an Engl or rectifier previous it sounds like a metal and clean amp together . how do i mute the sound beneath the main 20 banks.
I like ToneX One but way cannot IK Multimedia also combine independent Captures of Overdrive pedals along with Amp Captures so you do not have to buy another ToneX One for Overdrive Captures?Tonocracy lets you do this in there software Suite Plugin and is should be also possible to do this in a Hardware Pedal?
This is a great video and thank you. I do have a question though. I’m running the tonex in the fx loop of a stomp xl, and when connecting it to the computer, Mac book air m1, it is really noisy, to the point where I almost can’t stand trying to load presets or test different presets. I’ve tried running it with the stomp as the input output device. I’ve tried running the tonex as the input output device and it does the same thing with both, not sure what I’m doing wrong, not sure if there is a global volume in the software or input trim in the software, but even the clean is so loud and noisy when plugged in it’s almost unusable. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
@@klisher I figured it out, me display settings weren’t showing me the in/out on the software, I also used the headphone jack out of the computer because it wasn’t letting me change the presets to hear unless I loaded them in the a/b slot and switched between them on the pedal, still doesn’t quite translate from the software to the pedal the same as I’m hearing it, from one to the other but at least I can try to level things a little on the software now. It really does sound great it’s a shame the software seems so clunky compared to hx edit.
Great video, Jason! I have a quick question about the 20 premium presets loaded on the pedal. The pedal comes with a license for ToneX SE, but I understand the 20 presets it ships with are from ToneX Max. So are they automatically backed up to the software when you first plug it in? Or is this something you should do manually so you don't lose the 20 it ships with? Thanks.
@@klisher Thanks so much for the response. After receiving the unit I noticed that was an option, but I'm grateful for you taking the time to write it here. I definitely don't find the software particularly intuitive, so scared to test things😅 Have a great day.

This makes me want to build a microboard to compliment my existing Tonex board.
Yeah I am thinking the same thing :-)
same here, just delay and a booster maybe..

exceptionally helpful video - IK should put this on their website!
Thank you and glad you enjoyed :-)
Awesome stuff. Helix @ home. Stomp on the road. ToneX @ home. Mini on road. 🎉🤟🎸🎶
So many amazing options 😀
Best in Depth explanation yet! 👍
Thank you and glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for showing first how to utilize the hardware functions.
INCREDIBLE INSTRUCTION VIDEO. THANK YOU MY FRIEND. MUCH APPRECIATED. You just gained a new subscriber.

Hi Jason. can you run 12V through the tonex one. wondering if it would give your more headroom or are they fixed at 9v
A question - do I need to trim input gain every time I change the guitar or put a pedal infront?

Question - how and where do you get the tone library software - when I plug my Tonex into my computer nothing comes up
You need to have the actual Tonex software installed on your computer and open it after hooking up your Tonex One pedal.
Can I plug the Tonex One into a USB-C cable that is plugged into a wall outlet, rather than a Mac/PC? Thanks.
So, the right-side cable goes into your guitar, And the left side cable plugs into an audio interface?
yeah it can do. it also just plugs in to your computer as its own audio interface. (its USB C so i had to get a USB C to regular USB adaptor)

Will it do midi via usb-c?
Not as on now unfortunately...

im finding the same thing. i turned the volume down on the software (just on the first amp on my list on home setting) and that seemed to be work.

if you remove those presets you can recall them on the software but pressing the return to default button.

Can you adjust settings through the app on your phone ?
Unfortunately not...
@@JasonSadites dropped the ball on portability, would be nice to see what amp/ settings are being used at least as a visual monitor
Wish these guys would just put out a full featured pedalboard like Helix, and just be done with it.
Our very own music city Canada leaked it 😂.
Yeah I saw that :-) LOL

ok, but you totally skipped over the whole hooking it up to a pc and using it on a pc
