I remember those sounds...... And its all cool for a bit, and then theres just this thing you want to dial out, and you just can't.
I know what you mean - it's like a valve state lower mid hollow raspy nasty sort of underlying thing. To be fair a lot of very modern stuff has it too, some in spades ! I bought myself a yamaha THR30 mk2 for xmas, and to my surprise it had that sound right out of the box, but I found I actually could dial it out on that, which is a good thing 'cos I'd have been sending the little love back pronto if I were stuck with that valve state sound lol.
Thats exactly what I thought of the older multi-effects pedals. Lots of the presets (noticably the dirtier drives and wobblier modulations) have a very particular digital flavour that isn't necessarily bad, but you are stuck with.
20 years from now, someone will be profiling a kemper profile and laughing out loud :)
What if they profiled a kemper profile of one of these.... HOW DEEP CAN WE GO
Yup
Years from now, People will be talking about the awesome deal they found on an AxeFX3 at the local pawn shop!
Next time: Captain selects a preset, Chappers has to guess what name they gave it.
This opened my ears to sounds I never knew I hated.
LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL!!!!!! I can't believe how shit the high gain sounds are and I grew up on those!!!!
Yeah man the 90s were a dark dark time
😅
LMAO
Ha! Had to comment, dude yeah they don’t sound like now, but it was a sound at the time. It has it moments man. I love it!
I'll never get the hatred for these things. I played in 4-5 different bands at the same time in the early 90's and rehearsed with them all with the same rig using a DigiTech with a Marshall preamp and 50w power amp. I could do anything with it and I never once got 'option overload'. I programmed clean, and rhythm and lead for each band. I just plugged it into the cab in the practice room and I was ready. Just that, an RG550 beaten up to buggery and that's all I needed, simple. Great time and great memories 😉
Was you able to bypass the preamp in the menu and use the effects only
I still have my 2101. I e compared it side by side over the years with newer modern units. They dont come any where near it. The only downside is it's hard to program, but, it's real valve, not modeling. Loads of analogue etc. Its still superb.
"Sounds like they never heard ZZ Top before." Probably the best thing I've heard Chappers say.
I used the DigiTech gsp2101 into a Mesa 2x90 power amp back in the 90’s and it sounded huge. Easy to transport in an SKB case. This vid has me feeling nostalgic.Kinda wish I still had that setup to mess around with.
What a fun video! I have a special place in my heart for all these sounds! Beautiful early 2000s guitar nostalgia!
the editing! hahahahahahaha the stride piano when Lee stands up. Honestly hilarious
Lee! Whenever you guys demo things like these, pedals or rack effects, PLEASE allow like 20-30 seconds on each setting! 😂 I promise us the viewers do not get bored with it being on one setting for half a minute 🤣 it gives us time to actually take in the effect and judge it. You're always switching things soooo fast 😭 no knock to ya! Just a request haha still a great video nonetheless!
Oh man I wanted that Zoom 9050 so badly in the 90s
1995‘s internet: AOL, CompuServe and GeoCities, all hand-built with Notepad or Frontpage for the Win95 crew. The memories 😱
Don't forget netscape
blast from the past you guys mentioning chandler guitars! the shop in richmond was there up until only about 5 year ago. used to love going to that shop and the sister shop in teddington
My mum took me to get my first electric guitar (arctic-white Squier strat) from Chandler for my 17th birthday in 1989. It's leaning against the wall about six feet from me right now.
Everybody get in quick before the 'vintage' digital market sky rockets!
ahahah, I hope! I have a GSP2101Artist + Rocktron Velocity to sell!!!
I had one of those 2101's and absolutely loved it. I sometimes think about getting another one but usually anytime I get something I used to have its never as good as I remember lol
Ah, the tinny, hollow, fizzy sound of my yesteryears...Zoom 505 baby!
LOVED my GSP 21 Legend. It had 3 presets from every guitar god in the 80's and early 90's. Sounded great at the time.
If it sounded great then, bet it still sounds great.
Such an 80s tone in the beginning
Koacharvel no that’s the normal intro Anderson’s has had
@@Rxbandit421 surely a troll, I meant the first sound that Rob was playing with.
man, takes me back to the bad ol days of trying to figure out how to get a decent sound of my old digitech floorboard into my tiny practice amp. Makes me extra thankful for modern profilers/modelers
This made me pine for the days of playing Prince of Persia on a 486pc while listening to Collective Soul on a Minidisk.
I still have that digitech unit. Haven't touched it for decades... Need to dig it out
I loved this video :) well done guys!
Awesome that these old classic units can be profiled.
This should be an entire series. The captain and chappers kemper. Hilarious
I love how it looks like a 90s car radio 😂 Like that all you’d get in Halfords where you can try them all haha!
KD Lang... Constant Craving was the song. It’s all coming back to me 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the video!
Please please PLEASE do more of these.
Zoom 505 and Digitech RP3 where my first digital multieffects back in the 90’s
Dweezil Zappa and Zoom? He was a Zoom Endorser, had the honour to met him 1992, when I worked for the Music Stor Cologne. He and his brother were for a meet an greet thing for Zoom
'Constant craving' was the song by KD Lang, Lee.
My first effects unit was a Zoom 1010 and now after hearing these, with having a real pedal board now, it brought back memories.
My mate had an ART effects processor in the 90s. I was very jealous at the time. Would love to have a listen to one now.
A flood of memories from this video have been had.
I worked all Summer one year in the early '90's to buy the Digitech RP1. I loved that thing. Still actually works, too.
15th-fret bend timer: nine seconds.
I love these vids. I was looking back at the early 2000s multi effects units that every local band had back then (mostly the Digitech RP200 but if your parents were minted a BOSS GT6)
I still have my Boss GX700. I plug it in now and again and it sounds great :D 🤘🤘
I’ve been looking at everything you’re taking about lately and been thinking about buying some rack gear
Rob would have needed an 80s shred machine for that - with a Floyd!
I still have a Boss ME 5 from 1988...still works perfectly and I gigged with it up until 2014.
Apart from my current Helix Stereo Rig the GSP2112 -> Engl Tube Poweramp was the best ever sound I had.
I had the 2120 with a stereo power amp... those things rock... also have a Helix now, which also rocks
@@3l84r70 And the fact that I could have base sounds with top row control over anything (like Helix) is what I loved and missed.
That 5150 ish tone in the beginning 🤘🤘
And now every new effects company adds a "Brown, 5150ish, put your EVH program name here" in every presets.
The Zoom 9030 was used by shoegazers Curve. Back in 1992 I had a Digitech RP-1 which was the pedal board version of the GSP-21. Made popular by Def Leppard on their 93 tour. I had a ART Multiverb Alpha on my rack, which was based around a Marshall JMP-1/8008 power amp. Heady days!!!
Great editing...
I still have my ART SGX2000.....in the loft somewhere! The X15 midi controller that went with it is still going strong though!
wanna sell it to me?
I just bought a digitech gsp2101 a few months ago it's a great unit
I agree. Didn’t own it (I had the valve FX) but I could get great tones from a friends one I tried. The stupid thing is that it’s follow ups, the 2112 and the 2120, though they had more powerfull processors, didn’t sound nearly as good.
I had a Peavey Vypyr 15 where you could stack all sorts of flanger/delay/chorus and this brought back those terrible memories.
I have a Voodu Valve whitch doctor and this sounds really good, still using it ;)
I had an old Digitech RP-1 when I was learning guitar.....I'm hearing some very familiar sounds!
Love love love this!!!
lol, brings back memories. I had a Digitech RP20 forever. It was great at uni and for practice but eventually back to basics plugging straight into a valve amp with a few pedals up front.
I still use my Roland GP-16 w/ FC-100mk2 foot switch and EV-10 Expression pedal . I have a Rocktron Intellifex too.
1989 !!!
My late 90's rig was a Marshall JMP1, Zoom 9050 for fx only, Marshall 8080 power amp into a Marshall 1960 quad, Boss fc50 midi pedal and to top it off a Morley Bad Horsie Wah and a Nady wireless. I was in heaven.
Sounds great
Haaa!! I vividly remember my brand new 9050 arriving in the post in the mid 90’s and the subsequent mad tap dancing that ensued changing patches. 😂😂🎸⚡️🤘
6:21 Pretty much my favorite clean sound with the chorus-y effect.
Still some haters press dislike on all Robs video in andertons chanel for no reason. So immature!!!
I still use my 2101 and if you program it right it sounds amazing. The factory presets are way overprosessed. By the way there is a Lexicon reverb in it. (yes the Big one)😳
If I got one for a rack system, would you recommend it as both a preamp and an effects processor, or plug a different preamp into it and use it as an effects processor?
@@BlakeShannonMusic I use it alone. However if you got another preamp you like you can use that before.
@@jamujesperandersen8699 And you've heard of the 2120, too? If you had to recommend either the GSP 2101 or the 2120, which one?
@@BlakeShannonMusic I’ve only used the 2101
Had the 2101, was a cool time to experiment with. Funny memories ;-D
Lee and Chappers will single handedly get these re-issued 😂
Haha!! Helix and AxeFX snobs are now cowering away shamefully in the dusty wardrobe where the mighty GSP 2101 was plucked from. Heavy weighs the realisation that even with your multi-thousand pound fx units, you're chops still suck. Awesome sounds to be had out of the old gear if you spend the time to tweak it. Great video guys, Rob clearly enjoyed himself and im guessing that the Digitech has since made its way to his living room.
Well said...There is a trend building up now between Guitar players..they are Hunting down these early to mid nineties rack effect units..Digitech, Rocktron, ADA, ART, Yamaha, Alesis...I snatched a Digitech Legend 2 and an Alesis quadreverb units...
The question remains, are we that adavnced with those Helix, kemper and god knows who ele is doing a computer/effect unit thingy now..
Ever heard an ADA preamp and Digitech Legend effect unit coupled with a peavey power amp?
Just retired my Digitech rack delay from the mid-80s (granted I largely put aside playing guitar for decades). Back to playing a ton and am still using a Roland SDE-1000 Digital Delay.
I have a Boss SE-70 and it’s still absolutely incredible!
Yes rob the digitech RP1 still has some very good sounds on it,clean and OD strat tones sounded so good to me when i tried it out about a year ago on presets i created back in the 90's,i was thinking about trading it in for some newer guitar gear but after hearing those tones i forgot about i will be keeping this unit!
That distorted flange tone really reminds me of my digitech rp80 which was the first pedal I owned
I still have a Digitech RP-1, which was supposedly the first rack unit to be melded with a floor controller. When it boots up, it says, “DO IT ON THE FLOOR!!”
Aside from having to tweak outdated presets to suit more modern tastes, it’s still a great unit! There are some nice sounds and good flexible options for some of the effects.
RP-1 was 1993 or 1994, btw.
Bought a DigiTech RP2000 new,and still use it! Some useable presets, but no one ever bothered to learn how to program their own. That is what is great about these units! Building a huge arsenal of completely adjustable pedalboards.
I have one too, I use it to gain stack my 2112 SGS .
The RP-1 is still relevant, aside from the latency issue, that is solved by the 2112's audio overlaping abilities, sounds like a studio edit .... no glitch, when changing programs .
I really does have a specific “90s” sound to it, especially the ridiculous modulated clean reverb presets
I still have my old Digitech GSP21 Pro and still use it in my rack
Chappers was in Cabo Wabo Heaven!-
I recently bought a kemper rack and was trying to get a case for it like the one in your video,I will be using it at home mostly, any ideas where I might get one? I live in the UK.
Back in the day I had the ADA rig, starting with the MP-1, MQ-1, B200S, Alesis Quadraverb + 4 ADA vertical 2x12 splitstacks; I replaced the MP-1 and MQ-1 with the MP-2, I still have my main MP-2 and it still works!
Last year, I finally had to discard my original, purchased new, Zoom 9002 as the battery had burst.
I also briefly owned an ART SGX-2000.
Most of my old kit is gone, I still have a Trace Elliot MP-11 and dual compressor for bass, my Mesa TriAxis with Phat Mod, and my Zoom G9.2tt, haven't used it in many years. That Z-pedal was great!
Thank's for a most energetic intro - at 5.40 at the re-cabling you did NOT mention
the name and the setting's of the amp behind you (had been nice to know for the
nørds - just a still pic insert with your voice-over)
I still have my 2101. I used it on some odd job in about 4years ago just for the heck of it and it could still hack it on some basic things.
Sounded pretty great there...
I have a GP-8 and a GP-16. Amazing units!
My pod XT which will have been bought in the 90s I suspect still kicks arse, works flawlessly and I love the tones I created all those years ago!! That said...I have jumped on the all pedal bandwagon just to have every setting on a knob on the floor! I can’t be bothered updating presets anymore - no longer a teenager!!
That digitech had some really solid tones in it. Especially the cleans.
Can we please get a review of the Friedman JJ JR - it has benn lurking in the background for some time now..
Love you guys!
I used to be obsessed with rack gear. I ended with quite a collection. A couple of them died in storage.. I assume their memory batteries need replaced. I still have a DOD G7, and an Alesis Quadraverb!! And they still work 😀
The thing with profiling is that the neighbours think you are watching some weird 1960's sci-fi horror with no dialogue.
Boss ME50 was my first effects unit.
I use to have a Roland gp 16 back in the day. Wish I still had it to I could revisit those over process sounds I thought sounded so good 😂
Internet circa 1995 is an extraordinarily niche subject geocities page covered in animated gifs. Usually flaming skulls.
Rob sounds like a guitar hero at 7 min haha allllll the gain and effects to back it up. Takes me way back. Funny that they don’t sound “good” like we think today but it has a thing that’s a sound of the era.
Does that Zoom rack have the time trip (t-trip) effect on it? Best envelope chorus/flange i've heard. Set the sensitivity right down and woah mama, Zappa land.
I owned that same Digitech unit back in the 90's along with a 12space rack unit filled with BBE sonic max, power amps...etc LOL. Sold ALL of it for a Soldano Hot Rod 100+ & 2 Soldano 4x12 cabs ~ in PURPLE. LOL. I miss those rack setups....
Never leave Lee alone near buttons... 1.53 second attention span.... lol.... never gets old!
lol!
When I was 17 my friends dad got a Digitech gnx3. That was the most expensive distortion pedal I have ever used.
I've still got my old Digitech GSP 21 legend rack unit , the battery in it has ran out so doesnt remember any patches. Stuck in a drawer now and just use the built in katana mk2 effects.
The battery is dead easy to change. If it's the same as the Studio Quad, it's a 2032 in a holder like on a PC motherboard.
I still have my Roland VS880 and the VS1680 But sadly the CD burners do not work , I still record on the 8 track and I even use my Boss DR 550 MK2 , just add a little bit of plate reverb and your away. Still love them .
16:22 it reminds me of the movie Contact with Jodie Foster.
I still have the gsp 2021 and a roland gp8, and i think you can still dial in perfectly fine tones with both of them, roland is a mono prosessor, with stereo chorus. The digitech has about any efx there is and is very customable, more than any other gear I’ve owned, and is still my backup of my backup to this day. The gsp hasn’t failed or crashed me even once since the 90s when I got it, its super reliable!
Whenever i see these type of devices old and new, i cant help but imagine what Jimi Hendrix wouldve done if he got to sit and play with one haha
Probably he would hve said "How the fuck does this work" since he would have been 53 in 1995
Like have you ever imagined an old Jimi Hendrix at Namm or appearing on the RUclips videos...
Easy. He would have adjusted knobs, gotten tired of it all, then just ask for a tube amp. Like most of us.
@@boggeshzahim3713 Bizzare. Or getting into heavy metal and then later collaborating with Santana and some rappers.
He would probably smashed it with his Strat 🤣
I still have my Digitech 2101 and use it ...occasionally. lol!
You need an ADA MP1 or a lexicon pcm on here :D
I believe Dweezil has been releasing music since around 1986.
@@i8ittoo yep but it was the only reason I watched it because he would play guitar.
"what have Digitech made since this that sounds as good." Try out the GSP1101. fantastic bit of kit
I never had a rack setup but I did own a zoom 9000 and while it had lots of sounds , they were all mostly pretty naff LOL
