I saw it happen live when I was 13, on WXLT Channel 40, Sarasota. I at first thought it was a bad joke , done in poor taste, but when they cut to the station ID card, and didn’t return, I realized that it was true. I remember seeing the hair on her left temple fly out, but I saw no blood. The suicide lasted a fraction of a second. RIP Christine.
Wow, I’ve never actually come across anybody who actually saw it live and still remembers it.
That’s crazy
Oh wow
Looks like you're celebrating a 60th birthday this year. You wouldn't happen to be the singer Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy who also happens to be around your age?
@@lincbond442 no not me.
Although I was a teenager at the time, I never knew this story until now, decades later, as I watched the movie. My heart goes out to Christine. How terribly painful life must have been for her. The film is excellent.
Rebecca Hall should've been nominated for an Oscar for her performance. That "yes, but..." scene was heartbreaking. WOW!
It didn't change anything. I studied journalism and "if it bleeds, it leads" was taught on day 1.
yeesh, ending it on THAT line... anyone who knows the story knows exactly what happened next. this poor lady.
This happened in 1974. Just think how much worse the news has gotten almost 50 years later.
My RUclips feed somehow went from the Tsunami in 2004 videos to one about this lady from Florida.... I never heard this story, but, find it sad she did this, she must have been very intelligent, and did not understand how to get out of her situation. I am a nurse, and the ridiculousness of the job itself could lead someone to this same end, unless one understands that there are many jobs, and many doors, simply get out of what is making you feel crazy, walk away, run away, what ever, but survive and be grateful you are alive!
Ah….. it’s that simple! Glad to know…
This trailer reminds me of how amazing The Network (1976) was.
I saw the recent live Broadway play of the Network starring Brian Cranston in London, t’was amazing!
I got literal goosebumps from this trailer.
I usually don't care about what crap movies are out these days, but I am familiar with Christine's story and really want to see this.
What a fantastically mature attitude to all the great movies coming out these days that you can't be bothered finding. Were they better back in your day, grandad? *slow clap*
@@Dave-cx4il comment's 4 years old Dave. Let it go.
I can't believe they made a movie about this
I had never heard of this woman before, I had heard of R. Budd Dwyer who did what Miss Chubbuck did except he was a politician. Still no one mentions her when it comes to people committing suicide on live tv...
There are a few reasons for this. One was that Christine worked at a tiny UHF channel that only a few hundred people watched. The other is that the tape of her demise was never made public or leaked so it didn't get copied and placed on those awful "Faces of Death" compilations like Budd's video.
The Dwyer video is also here on RUclips. And...holy shit, is all I could say to that. (I hadn't heard of this story either; in fact, I think I actually got pointed to this trailer from Facebook!)
Hi how are you
I wonder what she would think about today's mainstream media? Compared to 1974 it's much worse today.
Dexter's first victim
Rebecca Hall is in a league of her own.
This film is great, BTW.
Perfect actress. Perfect casting. I lives her in the night house. ❤ Never saw the real footage. Hard to find. Sad thing. Poor woman. ❤ Hall
Horrible. I'm just hearing of this TRAGEDY. R.i.p. Christine
Me gustaria ver esta pelicula y que triste lo que llevo a esta mujer tomar esta desicion
Está en HBO, justo la acabo de ver.
La peñicula es bastante buena y trata en forma realista los trastornos mentales.
Christine’ works with a character inserted in an inexorable stage of depression, possibly Borderline Personality Disorder?, bringing all the sad degenerative aspects in her. This movie is somewhat disturbing would not recommend seeing it at times of emotional instability because of its rich conceptual content; not kidding, it can screw with your spirit, you were warned. However, I could not help but be curious as to where this journey was taking us.
I’m autistic, it wouldn’t surprise me if she was too. I must confess I felt kinda disturbed after I finished the movie.
Because I totally understood why she was doing it and how she was feeling and in my head it felt like the most reasonable conclusion but at the same time it scared me to think like that.
Hi. how are you
@@gogo-fs4wlnot autistic. She was just sick. Depression gets so deep in some people that I would say “depression” isn’t even an accurate word to describe what it is they’re going through, its something else.
How to watch the film ??
Step 1 : Find the film
Step 2 : Select that film
Step 3 : Enjoy :)
I hate it when movies have the same titles as other movies. :(
LUCKY FOR YOU CHRISTINE THE CAR IS GETTING REMAKE THIS YEAR (;
The other movie is called John Carpenter's Christine. Confusion over.
Who else thought the Car.
I thought about the car... and then I remember the real story! This was a real woman in Florida!!!
Me too
She sounds like Christine too, a tee!
This movie pretty much proves her right lol she'd hate this
watched the film. was confused what this had to do with a 1958 Plymouth Fury
I think this is not plymouth fury
Sidney Lumet would be proud I think
I honestly feel as though christine was gay. From researching her and her story. In her time, being gay wasnt accepted. She may not have been, that's just what I got from her. I think that contributed to her depression.
So why did she want to be with George?
a a maybe Shes bi…oh well it’s still a sad story
To be honest, I am not sure. I never really got that she was gay; I mostly saw of the this movie and from hearing some sources on her that she was a bit socially awkward. She dealt with mood swings, she was smart but extremely desperate, she even wanted to have a man (but not just any man) in her life and a baby of her own. In fact, she was also still a virgin. Maybe she did have an attraction to girls too (though I am not too sure), maybe it was just her quirkiness, if we could say that, with her depression mixed with it. It's hard to really tell, although I will give you a bit of credit on your theory, being the 70s was not all "groovy," or "out of site," a lot of people made it be back then; and, while people who are homosexual aren't the only ones with depression especially back then, she was struggling quite a bit with so much. She did not like what her station wanted to target for and it didn't help her depression at all.
Edit: Now that I think aboutbit now, I think she might of dealt with a borderline personality. Like I said, there was probably a number of things that went on in her head before she decided to take her life.
She didn't have a mental disorder , in the movie there's a scene where shes at the hospital and the doctor tells her shes not able to have kids. She also was struggling trying to get promoted..
"In living color..."
1:39 reporter doesn't know how eggs are laid...
she dies at the end of the film
Suicide*
alexux3000 el mlg and what happens when people commit suicide? they die
Sure glad I didn’t already know that was gonna happen
I think she was the love of My life
If i had a wish, it was that Christine Chubbuck come back to life and give me the oportunity of become My wife, i'm sure i could love her forever, i'm so surprised for the way she commited suicide
