@ReillyArr-vc1rm well how many rockstars do you remember using yamaha guitars. Slash: gibson Bb king: gibson John Mayer: prs Jimi Hendrix: fender Eric Clapton: fender Angus young: gibson Kurt cobain: fender SRV: fender Joe satriani: ibanez Any guitarist you know of would be either using fender, Gibson, prs , ibanez, BC rich etc. And as far as you're concerned about my knowledge of guitars . Iam an aspiring luthier I know everything there is about guitar luthierie, and how the major brands like gibson and fender are ridiculously overrated and overpriced . I just found a FG340 ll in a Goodwill store for 150 dollars , it was missing a string....it is from 1985 , in perfect condition ! Made in Japan with Yamaha tuners made in Japan. I put a new set of bronze 80/20 's , sounds amazing and being fully bound it is beautiful . Amazing craftsmanship. Looking in side the sound hole is a feast for the eyes , perfect joiner work. Yes, I hope they are ok. The word I have received is that they are and working hard with the restrictions from Covid to continue building more instruments
Wow they work real fast in that factory! 🙃 Thanks for posting this, it confirms that the SA2200 is actually made in Hamamatsu (and not wherever the internet claims it would be made this week)!
Hey Bradley, When the CNC carves those necks, are they only rough carving it so the craftsman can finish final shaping it by hand, or does it carve it to the final thickness. Do you remember if the craftsmen do any work to the neck after it comes from the machine?

I have a huge, beautiful Yamaha jumbo guitar, made in Japan and signed inside by the luthier about 25 years ago. It's the most amazing instrument, and I've been gigging it since the early 2000's where I've had loads of other musicians (usually with boutique brand guitars themselves) surprised that it sounds and feels like it does for being 'just a Yamaha'. I own a Lowden and two Avalons, too, and as amazing as they are, the Yamaha might yet be my favourite. Watching this video, I see what I suspected about how and where it was made. :)
To me Santanas tone was way superior when he had his Yamaha it had such a warm charming rich mid tone. After he switched to PRS the tone sounded much thiner and hollow. I wonder if Santana switched because of sponsorship? Having his own model?
(In the description) Hamamatsu is the city, which is in Shizuoka prefecture, and is also home to Kawai. Yamaha Music Craft is the name for the division of the company that manufactures and sells wood.
Hey Bradley, the CNC that was carving the guitar necks, are they also for the L series as well, because I saw in an earler video that they hand carved those necks, just curious.
It's wonderful that the Western world made it lawful to send almost their entire industry and manufacture to communist China. Very generous of them to deliberately and knowingly impoverish their own lands in favour of a communist China leg-up. Talk about a major windfall falling into your lap.
That’s really cool. I have friends that own vintage Yamahas and they love them. They have opened up nicely over time. Value? Not sure. Depends on condition. Check Reverb to see what same models in similar conditions have sold for. That will give you an idea of the current market value
lol....I've got large hands and play a Yamaha guitar and it feels fine (actually great). Fender standard is around 42mm. Not sure where you are getting your info? But it is misleading at best and completely incorrect at worst.
Less made but with more attention than those in Hangzhou were one is popped out every second. Soulless. Think the attention to detail here gives a better quality product.
They probably don't sell like 1/2 a million guitars a year either. If they did they'd probably have machines doing some of the work as well. You're going to get a more precise consistent accurate cut with a CNC machine than you will eyeballing it by hand anyway. As you can see a lot of the work is still done by hand.

When the CNC carves those necks, are they only rough carving it so the craftsman can finish final shaping it by hand, or does it carve it to the final thickness. Do you remember if the craftsmen do any work to the neck after it comes from the machine?
Yes. They get finished by hand. CNC takes away the bulk of the repetitive work

This is just raw, mostly unedited video clips that I threw together and sped up in some areas where it is a bit slow.

What is the machine doing at 3:24? Is it leveling the frets?
No. Rather confident the machine is a belt sander. So, it levels the finger board (fretboard).
@BradleyJohnson13 - In what city was this factory? Do you know if this factory is called “Yamaha Music Craft”?
