I went to El Zonte in El Salvador to see how they are using Bitcoin here. Since 2020, this little surf village has been pushing Bitcoin adoption. I wanted to seee how I can use Bitcoin to pay for a coconut, coffee and other street food.

That is so cool! I lived in El Salvador for a good part of the 90s. Right after the civil war. So happy to see President Bukele turning El Salvador into a beacon of enlightenment for Latin America and ultimately the world. 2 years ago I was asking how Bitcoin works. At the same in a tiny beach village they were already using it, that’s crazy. The person that introduced Bitcoin to el zonte, never crossed his mind that it was gonna become legal currency in the country.

It depends where you are, that’s how much you will pay for things. Since this is a tourist place that’s why things are more expensive

To the people saying that $3 is too much for a coconut, remember that sometimes the vendors have to travel great distance to get to the popular destinations. Sometimes they're reselling the products, so you have to take those extra costs into consideration. Sometimes they have to pay rent on the location too. Just a thought 🤙
Well where I live I paid six dollars for one.
Still all that but thats a hefty price for a coconut... el salvador has 1000s of coconuts trees so 1 dollar should be ok just saying...

Great video, and you're right, the price of the coconut is like 0.80$ in most of the places in El Salvador, just that due the location they could select up to $2 in some restaurants, and that one on $3 was really expensive, there is always people trying to take advantage of travelers of others countries.

Si, pero se supone que es así porque los ingresos (salario) que tiene un extranjero comparado al de un salvadoreño, no es lo mismo. Entonces tienen más poder adquisitivo. Es decir: lo que gana un salvadoreño en un día, un estadounidense lo gana en unas horas a lo sumo.
Aunque suene feo, pero hay razón de ser.

The locals know where to get it cheaper. Coconuts are kinda of a luxury food and not essential.
