What people do not realize is singing uses a very different part of your brain than speech. I am a physician and found this so moving. Hi @Taph Hedrof , I do not think it is always as simple as saying this way fits all. I also had a stammer but only only until I was 6/7 luckily. I am on the autistic spectrum but managed to find my own methods of dealing and succeeding with my own abilities. Most good, some not so much but it works at the moment. I still feel anxiety all the time, especially at large business meetings or family gatherings I need to attend but push myself into them and deal with it the best I can. I do feel for others that are not so lucky or just need the correct outlet for them.
The solution is relatively simple, but needs practice. Breakdown your sentence into phrases, and between each phrase take a breath and exhale. Repeat exhale......as you say the words. Even after to 60 years l have to think of doing the same technique every time I speak. Good luck. Let me know if I can help in anyway. No one who sings has a problem, that is because you breathe out..... repeat out when singing. If you try to breathe in, you will stutter it's that simple.
When she spoke about the difficulties she experienced, the silence was deafening. The Audience was hanging on every word she spoke. When she sang her story / song flowed gracefully.
Yeah - great to see Americans rooting for the underdog for once. Americans are great on the world stage when they have all the resources and outnumber their opponent 10 to 1. But this was very refreshing to see.
As someone who had a speech impediment as a child, by the time the video was over, I couldn't help up but tear up at this young woman's bravery, as well as how openly the audience embraced her. Often times, the most shy of us are also the most creative; all that's needed is the right outlet and someone willing to take a chance.
Ditto... I too have had a speech impediment all my life. Now in my later years its much more manageable. Used to sing rather than talk/ Yep, an amazingly brave young lady...
This young lady is amazing. She has the courage to stand before a huge crowd and risk rejection in order to follow her dream. Then she sings with such beauty and grace. She's already a star.
Since the age of 7 and now I'm 66. Anxiety makes it worse especially for her stepping out on a stage before thousands. She pulled it through. Talking slowly does work but singing is the best prescription. That voice will take her far. Congratulations!
I had a serious speech impediment growing up and can so relate to her story. Hearing her sing brought me to tears as I felt her pain and had my feelings and experiences come flowing back. My mother was a music teacher and she was always playing the piano and I would sing along - without stuttering. With her love and patience I eventually got over the impediment, I'm 60 years old now. This young lady is so strong. To everyone struggling - Never give up !
My comment only repeats what already has been said but with a twist of sorts. There was a girl that stuttered and she loved to sing so to help get over the problem she would sing her replies until one day she discovered she could actually talk without singing
She's an inspiration for all people, her voice is incredible, and she is beautiful inside and out. There's a pastor of a church that we're friends with, and he has twin girls who can't talk, but they can sing like angels. It's strange but true, and this young lady reminded me of these two precious angels.
Just hearing her in the beginning had me in tears. My heart went out to her. She is so brave and so beautiful !! What a voice she has!! She's singing from her past and from her heart. You just want to hug her and give her some support. I love this kid. Someone please give her an opportunity!! There is so much love in that auditorium for you and around the world. Take it in girl and bask in your talent. You deserve it.
The audience was really rooting for her. From the silence when she was having difficulty speaking, to the looks on their faces when she was singing to the encouraging comments during and after the song...they really had her back.
I really was impressed by this young lady. She has inspired me and many others. I've had two Traumatic Brain Injuries and I have been looking for a inspiration for me to come out of my shell.
The faces of Simon and Sofia when Amanda started singing were incredible. Everything about this video is amazing, including her father welling up with emotion and pride.
I stammered from a young age and it is the most debilitating thing ever. Normal life is a nightmare and you spend your life finding ways not to have to speak. Just texting these words bring it all back. I joined the Royal Marines at sixteen and over the years it faded and now at 79 I can talk normally. I can't tell you how proud I am of that young lady. Until you live it, you don't know what bravery it took for her to go on that stage. If anyone who stammers reads this, never give up, it will be ok one day, I promise you.
I stammered also. Went through speech therapy for years. I still have to catch myself sometimes. Now at 57 I sing in a group that goes to AFC and nursing homes. We have about 12 people, sometimes only 4 or 5 show up. Have found singing to be one of my favorite things to do.
This is one of the auditions I could never ever get tired of watching over and over again. The melody of the song, coupled with the lyrics, sang by a beautiful young lady, with a gentle soul with a resilient spirit. No doubt, Amanda will find continued recognition and success in whatever she does. I love these auditions. People with hidden talents, people who have been put down by others or by life circumstances, get a chance to show all of us who they are, their courage and their strength! Love it! Congrats Amanda!
I love the three women in the audience who seem to be at every show. The one who said "you are good enough". I have seen her a few times yelling out from the audience and giving encouragement. This show should have a guest judge picked from the audience every now and then.
Words cannot convey how phenomenal her voice and her song is. I don't watch AGT but I sincerely hope she went all the way! I hope she has a bright future in the music industry.
I watched a lot of AGT on RUclips and this is the best thing I have ever seen... when the audience member said, "You ARE good enough". 5:22 Perfect comment, perfect timing, and truth.
i swear, things like this really get to me emotionally, the fact that she has issues speaking and sings like an angel is proof enough for me that god gave her a little something extra special so she could deal with the every day problems she has to deal with, loved her song
@Keith Koetter you have to have some natural ability to begin with, not everyone can just practice singing and become as good as she is without some sort of NATURAL ability. sure, im sure she has practiced her ass off to be this good, but can you sing? are you able to get up on that stage and do what she did? infact, can 90% of the ppl in this world do what she does? i think not. IF SO, it wouldnt be special and famous to ppl that cant, now would it?

Correct. I have a son with autism and he is just like him dont think he good enough ect. But singing helps him as well. He dont get shy or break down nothing. Music as a away to move ppl. Love lady in audience daid she is a good enough
So many people have great singing voices but I actually enjoy her voice. It’s so pleasing, not just “good”. I could easily listen to an album of hers. I can’t fathom how difficult it is for her to get through one single day, but she pushed past her stuttering and made something amazing.
I love how the audience was so quiet while she was speaking. One of the good things about shows like these is to see how many people are caring and kind. Contrary to what media sometimes tries to have you think, I believe most people are like that. Some just lack selflove and are too scared themselves. Blass you all 🙏🍀!
Every time I watch this video, it makes me cry. I feel for this girl, too. I'm same position. I have a stutter and lisp, too, and always believe I'm not good enough, because nothing ever works, and no one ever praises me. I know who she feels. However, she can sing, I can't. I wish lots of happiness for this singer x

Listening to her sing I sit here in tears. She has a voice for herself and gives others with the same problem hope. Thank you for this wonderful song 🎵 ❤
There was a boy in my class at school who had a bad stammer but was an amazing singer... I used to go and see his band play every week...his voice was very like Paul Rodgers from Free.....he eventually lost his stammer.
Captivated the whole room. I love how respectful everyone was and you could see how they were just holding their breath and rooting for her. Just a lovely audition.
Singing uses a different part of the brain than speech. Singing gave me such confidence when I was struggling with stuttering. It still does! When I could barely push a sentence out, song flowed smoothly. What a beautiful song and voice. Blessings!
I blocked my speech from a very early age, I went to speech therapy and learned to speak in rhythm, most of the songs you hear are rhythms, you never hear a stammering singer , well done you stood up for the team , good luck xx
You go, It took me about 25 years to stop stammering by speech therapy and learned to speak, I still do some stammering at some times in my 70's but it is ok whit me.
I am back to say I see I should have said with me I have problems putting down things in the way I want to I have the big D thing you know the learning thing, For give me please.
A beautiful, courageous, talented, fearless, breath-taking, wonderful soul that shines so bright she brought tears to my eyes. What a voice. What a song. What an inspiration.
Absolutely Beautiful song from Amanda. I got tears in my eyes listening to her sing and afterward she said she wasn't good enough. That woman in the Audience that said She was Good Enough was correct. Howie said she was not only Good but Great! Dealing with a Speech Impediment is one thing but when you write a song so Moving you can't help but give Amanda A STANDING Ovation!
What a brave girl. I can understand how she must be feeling. I have a stutter of my own and its so hard sometimes trying to talk and feeling like you can't get the words out. Then you just feel stupid and like your wasting people's time when talking to them. It can be really hard sometimes, but I'm so glad there are people like this brave girl out there who don't let their struggles stop them from having a voice. Let's let our voices be heard!
Listen to her every day now. So brave to go up on that stage. Like 4 mins on stage and make a diffrence to a lot of people. I hope you understand that and continue to make a diffrence. Amazing.
I grew up the exact same way. It is really hard to grow up as a kid with a horrible stutter but you find ways to cope with it. There are people that love you and look past it and see you for what you are and not what you can't do. For you to do this in front of so many people is Amazing. I went on a mission for my church when I was 19 and through the Grace of God I think he took it from me so that I could bring people to Christ. It was my miracle and I owe it to God. Growing up with it made me who I am so I wouldn't change it as well. Amazing voice and I hope you go far with it!
Beautiful! I have speech impediment and I love to sing too, only time I don’t stutter … of course I don’t have your voice or talent to sing, but it doesn’t matter, I still sing 😎. I wish you all the success and happiness you deserve!
This reminds me of Mel Tillis who stuttered when he spoke but never when he was singing. He was a great country artist and I believe this young lady will come into her own!!!! Magnificent!!!
The genes that control speech and singing are different. That is why stuttering only affects speech. Her courage is amazing. We are incredibly complex beings. Being cruel is easy, and never is right.
I believe that is the case for everyone with stuttering. I have it a little bit. It was worse when I was a kid, but it never stopped me from singing. Agree how the brain is amazing. Cheers!
@@AndradeTX I wondered if it was the same for everyone, now I know thanks ;) I went to speech therapy as a kid for a bad lisp, not quite the same I know.. I did become friends with a guy for about 3 years not seem him for ages , he had it bad and you could see how frustrated it was for him. And somtiems Id finish his sentence but after a while I stopped that realised that really annoyed him.
Check out country singer Mel Tillis. He was pretty famous for his stutter that disappeared when he played the guitar. He was on Johnny Carson often. If he played his guitar while he told stories, they came out normal.
@@AndradeTX Having a stutter sucks! It's really annoying when I know what I want to say, but it just won't come out, and when that happens, I can feel the person that I'm trying to talk to, is getting annoyed as well. They're most likely thinking "just spit it out", as if it was that easy for me. It's crazy how the brain works and people who have a speech problem don't stutter when they sing. I mean, just look at Ozzy! He's a prime example of that!
I mean it's kind of like how Ozzy Osbourne how you can barely understand the dude when he talks but when he's sings it's completely different it's like that with a lot of people with stutters and speech impediments and things like that singing takes a different part of the brain I believe and it's sort of rewiring it to where it overrides the speech impediment or the stutter and things like that just like a lot of actors who have accents but when they act they sound completely different like the guy who plays aragorn and Lord of the rings Hugh Jackman Gerard Butler The guy who plays House and things like that so it's really remarkable just like that thing that you see on social media probably a couple times where the words are spelled wrong but yet you can still read it or it's upside down and backwards and yet you can still read it The brain is one of the last things that the humans still can't yet explain I mean the brain is so super complex that it named itself that everything you are resides in something so vulnerable it's amazing that the capabilities and the complexities and the sheer amazement of the human brain still baffle scientists till this day with all are great advancements in technology science everything The brain is one of the biggest mysteries left of the human body to discover and to fully explain
Love .. Shoutout to the woman who helped her belief in herself .. just with her words 🤗 We need a lot more like her .. hope she too gets the support she needs .. :)
I don't know of any words that would describe beyond great. She has a raw talent that is not only pure, but a flowing presence that is elegant and mesmerizing. Don't lose hope in your dreams and don't stop believing.
Cried like a baby Alison your a beautiful soul and so humble you'll go far young lady and as the lady said you are worthy and you've blessed us all so much thank you.
This performance caused me to think back to a winner of the Voice Australia some years ago. Harrison Craig had trouble saying his own name his stutter was so bad but when he sang it was beautiful to hear. Both were incredibly brave to stand up and speak and perform. Thank goodness they did because both have wonderful voices.
Amazing how talking and singing are so completely different. To be so crippled by stuttering or stammering when talking and yet able to have such stunning voice control for slow yet strong vocals when singing is remarkable. I hope she is able to continue developing her song writing and able to forge a career singing
The human mind is such an involved and complex machine. We know somethings about it but will never in my opinion know all threre is to know. Beautiful young lady and so incredibly talented! Good for her .....😊
When we speak from our diaphram we don't stutter. Mel Tillis was a famous singer who stuttered but not when he sang. The Stuttering Clinic in Roanoke Virginia - will help - it helped me - a chronic sturtterer since childhood. You are amazing!! You are ENOUGH
WOW, such truly awesome talent with only her heart, voice and a guitar. WOW, every word of her song could be felt in all the hearts of everyone who hears her. TRULY ANGELIC.
I had a bad stutter from 6y/o to 60 years old and finally mostly overcame it. Mel Tillis Was my hero I never got to meet. I stuttered just like here off and on over several years ! Love her so much to have the Courage to do this !
Later in life I suffered a closed head injury AND facial damage that resulted in me having a whole different speech pattern and enduring mental impairment. It destroyed my life but after I struggled through my victims' impact statement I realized that I could face anything. You go girl!!!!!!!!!
Amanda ! I can't stop watching this video, you are so emotional and your original song makes me cry each time: it is so great i'm sorry to say I love you
"you are good enough" someone give that lady a hug for me!!!!! 😥🥰
Everyone must see this video.
Humanity. Love. Pure love. Courage.

She is gorgeous…… in and out…., in silence and in song..!

Amazing.
That was beautiful, she should have gotten the buzzer.and you are good enough. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice.
A very very close relative of mine also suffered as this young woman has
With her perseverance she became a miracle. Thank you God ❤ 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻
I'm moved. Honesty and sincerity and so pure.
wow! she is a example and guidence for me...this is courage......
That one voice from the audience said it all...."You ARE good enough".
Emotional, and very true statement. Beautiful girl, and beautiful voice.
Exactly x
@@morganmbartram i would have yeld out shes better than good enough
I had watched a shorter version and had not heard that line. I did say that to myself and a little more.
Dear little lady may little lady may god bless and guide you and keep you safe for the rest of your living life you are brilliant god bless
What a beautiful song, and a beautiful person inside and out. What courage!
Aw, geez. Made me cry, too! The lyrics and music were just wonderful, and her voice! Wow.
A beautiful young lady who sings like an angel!!
She's an Angel. I have a speech impediment too, and I know how hard it can be.
*Brought tears to the eyes of this 73 year old dad of girls!!!*
*She’s awesome!!!*
It's crazy how singing can fix it for her, the human brain is extraordinary
I believe that is the case for everyone with stuttering. I have it a little bit. It was worse when I was a kid, but it never stopped me from singing. Agree how the brain is amazing. Cheers!
@@AndradeTX I wondered if it was the same for everyone, now I know thanks ;)
I went to speech therapy as a kid for a bad lisp, not quite the same I know..
Love ..
Shoutout to the woman who helped her belief in herself .. just with her words 🤗
We need a lot more like her .. hope she too gets the support she needs .. :)
You can see how her father loves her and is so proud of her.
I don't know of any words that would describe beyond great. She has a raw talent that is not only pure, but a flowing presence that is elegant and mesmerizing. Don't lose hope in your dreams and don't stop believing.
1:40 and I am already crying my eyes out!!! Well, well done!!!!!!! So very well done, beautiful Girl!!!!!
Cried like a baby Alison your a beautiful soul and so humble you'll go far young lady and as the lady said you are worthy and you've blessed us all so much thank you.
Should have given her the golden buzzer
I agree totally!!!!!!
100%agree
Wow! I'm so impressed that she had the courage to audtion here! Amazing!
She was truly amazing!!! Her incredible journey brought her this great gift!!
yes!! So pwerful!! God Bless all who sturggle. May they all see how they shine!!
The power of the brain to segment areas that when tapped into overcome impairments is amazing!
Amazing how talking and singing are so completely different. To be so crippled by stuttering or stammering when talking and yet able to have such stunning voice control for slow yet strong vocals when singing is remarkable. I hope she is able to continue developing her song writing and able to forge a career singing
Well said!
The human mind is such an involved and complex machine. We know somethings about it but will never in my opinion know all threre is to know. Beautiful young lady and so incredibly talented! Good for her .....😊
She has a beautiful voice and God bless her for coming on the show and giving us her best, which is herself.
That was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Brave young lady!!!! She is awesome!
Man girl your voice made me cry , so beautiful....kept it up! I would love to hear more ...
Why so you can cry more?

People like her and many others make you push forward, never give up, never think that everything is lost, and give up on the first big obstacle. 💗
WOW, such truly awesome talent with only her heart, voice and a guitar. WOW, every word of her song could be felt in all the hearts of everyone who hears her. TRULY ANGELIC.
I'm a 58 Yr old trucker in the UK and I'm in bits after that audition. You Amanda are a star xxx
I have listened to her so many times since I came across this amazing young woman, it never fails to reduce me to tears.
I had a bad stutter from 6y/o to 60 years old and finally mostly overcame it. Mel Tillis Was my hero I never got to meet. I stuttered just like here off and on over several years ! Love her so much to have the Courage to do this !
I'm in tears! Shes AMAZING!!!! BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT!
I'm still in your shoes and I'm 58. You're amazing and keep going forward. Bless you young-lady
A strong young woman with an amazing talent.
I know the feeling....I use to feel that I wasn't good enough...not speaking up for myself....this really hit home
An angel who came to the world to inspire us all! You are a "STAR"!
The love between her and her father is her gift ❤. Love can conquer all ❤
Later in life I suffered a closed head injury AND facial damage that resulted in me having a whole different speech pattern and enduring mental impairment. It destroyed my life but after I struggled through my victims' impact statement I realized that I could face anything. You go girl!!!!!!!!!
WHO BEAT YOU UP DEBRA?
I'm so sorry you had to go through that! Awesome that you were able to stand up to that attacker and make your statement.
In tears even before she started singing--what an amazing person!
My feet are cold. She blew me out of my socks. SHE WAS (IS) GREAT.
Amanda ! I can't stop watching this video, you are so emotional and your original song makes me cry each time: it is so great
i'm sorry to say I love you
