It does have a lot of comedy, but Gintama doesn't turn serious just on the serious arcs. There's a lot of episodes with focus on comedy, that end up being very heartwarming or sad, and sometimes you'll end up remembering those episodes more than some serious arcs, because of how good the stories in it were, not just for the comedy. Gintama is an anime with a lot of soul, a silver soul.
The way this song was used for the end of Gintama’s “Four Devas” arc had me bawling. It was totally unexpected, and really beautiful. Such a great anime. Such a great song.
Still watching in 2017. I love how this band made it so big eversince. I remember how I discovered them from bleach ending song last moment and became a fan since 2013 . Well I came here because of Gintama ending 17 ... One of my favorite arc with one of the best ending. I saw a lot of comments recommending Gintama I also want to do the same but Gintama is not an anime for everyone. For example- beginner anime watchers. There are some references and parodies. If you don't know what they're talking about you'll get confused and maybe bored... Gintama is a weird anime there are episodes literally promoting their game and sometines talking about the problems in the company or just talking about something with the same background for whole episode. To be honest I don't really remember the beginning episodes but a lot of people who starts watching Gintama says they didn't like beginning episodes. I'm not saying this to discourage you. We meet New characters as the story goes on. Some are really iconic characters that makes you love the anime. I'm not forcing you to watch though if you don't feel like watching don't watch. I really like Gintoki.. He's the best main character for me. He's not perfect. He doesn't pay his rent. He doesn't pay yoroyuza workers too. He uses his money to buy Jump(Manga)and choco Parfait. He's a sweet addict. Likes strawberry milk. Not a very good example for kids. He's lazy. But he also doesn't have a main character halo which protects him from anything. He might not be perfect for people's standart but He taught me great things and made me feel happy, sad, scared, angry, embaressed and a lot of different emotion. This gintama ending made me watch the whole series. I basically got bored at the first and second season but when Sorachi included the stories, arcs, dramas and all. It made Gintama as the best anime for me.
