I think it was brilliant to turn the good fairy into a non-dancing character. Rudolf Nureyev did the same thing with the Lilac Fairy in his choreography of “Sleeping Beauty”.
I like this production a lot and got it on DVD in 2006 or so, but they skip entirely too many of the musical numbers and sections. Imagine how much better it could have been if they had truly done the complete ballet..
Sergeyev's 1946 production has a lot to recommend it (it was meant to be the premier, but the Bolshoi's production beat them) but it's really too bad that this 1970s TV production didn't just film it on stage with the sets--instead drastically editing it down and using a cramped sound stage and these HORRIBLE effects.

Of course, aside from her Act I variation, she was a mime character in the original Petipa as well.
