But they don't know they are in a book, they think they are living and experiencing their own existence that isn't directed by an author. So that is why they would never get out, because the thought that they are in a book wouldn't even cross their minds. It is possible a dragon could ask this question for fun, actually realize what the hell was going on, and then find themselves here. But they would still be in the book... wait. I think I just made a paradox. They would get out into the real world, but the real world would be portrayed in the book.
