I mean ….. yes ILNP is a bit cheaper but you have to do more coats because their formula is thin (which I don’t love) so I’m not convinced you’re getting more manicures out of a bottle for a lower price. I actually love the rainbow collections but I was building them up slowly and I’m mad they’re breaking them up by discontinuing shades. And RIP Frost light, which I never got! Agreed about the limited edition shades, that’s just downright annoying. I can live with having seasonal shades, that kinda means holiday shades won’t sit around all year and they’ll be more fresh.
A totally valid perspective! I have over 500 nail polishes so I never consider running out of a shade, but you’re right that a more opaque formula may be worthwhile in the long run!
I'm such a Cristine fan - like I tune into the nail livestreams whenever I can nowadays but also I was there when polish mountain occurred, but for a long time I was not a customer of holo taco because I did not paint my nails. However, since I've started college- I have kind of loved painting my nails in my free time. I know I could have gone to a less expensive brand, but I am such a fan that I was sucked in. However, I do not regret it as I have not over purchased and for each purchase I did make, I did a boatload of research on which colors to get. Also, since I only started buying in 2024, I had no preconceived ideas about the formulation and the skinny brush. Out of those that you have, I love oat couture and everything taco. And out of those that you did not mention, I love peri social which has an amazing formula, got cake? which is incredibly shiny with so much fun stuff going on but it still somehow is neutral (I can't believe they are discontinuing it!), and tax haven which I picked up in my Black Friday order as it was on a great sale but even seeing the swatches, I was surprised how much I loved the multi chrome with the little holo twinkles. Recently, I picked up crystal mommy and birthday brat from the birthstone collection restock as well as topaz tears for a friend of mine for a belated holiday gift but I have yet to receive them. I was very excited for the restock as I have found that my favorites from holo taco have been those with speckles of different sparkles (but not textured in feel) which this collection seemed to fit the bill. I saw a video saying that crystal mommy was one of the worst sellers, which I can understand given the name and how similar it is to the purple from the rock candy collection - but to me, it seems really promising! I agree with you that the crushed holo from the rock candy collection looks a bit dull, but the photos of crystal mommy seem to show more holo - plus I know it is very slight in difference in shade but I happen to like the hue of crystal mommy better. I am actually happy now that holo taco is in ulta now. As I am extremely choosy with the ones I purchase, I use to have to factor in shipping costs in my order as I have only once hit the free shipping minimum which was the recent order I alluded to earlier when I included gifts for friends. Now, I can go in store, or get free shipping so much easier on ulta if I ever want to try one coat black or pick up another bottle of peri social when I inevitably run out without worrying that by just buying a 12 dollar nail polish would turn into a 20 dollar nail polish. I am aware that they do not have the biggest selection at ulta, but fortunately, my preferences (as you can probably tell from my faves) are pretty basic and are represented in the "sellable shades" selection that was moved to ulta. Ik this comment is long-winded and ramble-y but I loved this video so much! Oh also if anyone has a dupe for got cake? Pls lmk!
No worries about the length of your comment, I enjoyed reading your thoughts! I don’t know a dupe for got cake but I totally agree that it’s cool to see their shades in Ulta now! Plus Ulta’s point system is BANGING haha!
The owner of ILNP Barbara sadly confirmed they won’t be selling colored horseshoe magnets only the black for $22.50. I’m kinda bummed they used the colored magnets for the teaser because it felt a deceptive marketing tactic because they did giveaways and said they were coming soon, not specifying the magnets would only be black.
This is the first video I watched of yours. I don’t buy much holo taco, so I appreciated seeing your swatches. I think they are an overpriced brand for what they sell, they are pretty basic polishes that i have a lot of indie dupes for. (I feel the same about cirque colors) However, one of my favorites is actually flakie taco, I absolutely love it. It’s worth the cost to me because it’s so unique. Probably my favorite holo topper. ❤ Kbshimmer also has replacement brushes, and i think they are the least expensive. I wish holo taco would bring back all of the glitter formulas, i don’t really buy anything else from them. Choco holo is also my favorite, it’s very unique. I regret not getting frost light 😢 I feel like the new glitters like midnight owl have a more opaque base and aren’t as sparkly, so I tend not to reach for it.
Ah that’s so interesting to hear your thoughts on all of these shades! I definitely find myself reaching for China Glaze Fairy Dust more than Flakie Holo Taco, but those bigger flakes are pretty unique!
I agree with others about it being hard to get to free shipping with HT, and personally what is my biggest bone to pick is why my orders take weeks to ship. This has been happening since before the strikes so it really doesn't make sense to me.
I totally agree about the free shipping threshold, it’s a lot higher than other brands. I’ve always gotten my orders pretty quickly, though! It could be based on location, so it’s good to know there’s some disparities.
I would say my most used Holo Tacos are: Reflective Taco, Flakie Holo Taco and Everything Taco - they are already half empty. The only collection I didn't buy anything from were the thermal ones. Because I always order with friends, I can sometimes treat myself to just one or two from a collection, but that somehow always happens very rarely 😂
I'm fairly new to nail polish but have a lot of Holo Taco because i really like their thickness and quality. I'm curious about a couple things you said: other brands do unicorn skin toppers? I've only seen small glitters from other brands, not big iridescent flakes in a clear base. Also, I wanted to check out the OPI black onyx you mentioned but it's retailing for $12 just like HT. I wonder if nail polish prices are just going up overall?
I got my OPI Black Onyx from TJ Maxx, but I had no idea it cost that much full price! For a similar topper to unicorn skins, I recommend you check out KBShimmer! They’ve got larger bottles for the same price. Fancy Gloss has even cheaper prices, but they only release their shades once a month!
I really loved this video & seeing your collection! I can’t imagine how long it took to film this & you did such a great job showcasing all the polishes! As for my thoughts on Holo Taco, I like them overall as a brand however let’s say I have $75 to spend on nail polish, I would choose another brand. I would rather pick a smaller indie brand with various types of finishes like Sassy Sauce etc. Out of the boutique brands I’ve tried, I prefer ILNP to Holo Taco. I’m not sure what it is exactly about Holo Taco that doesn’t excite me enough to buy from them often. I think I share similar view to you like they have so many limited edition releases and they release similar color stories. I also think I prefer the idea of a collection with a mix of formulas rather than here’s 7 new shades of all linear holos or creams.
I totally agree that there are other brands I’d purchase from first. I enjoy my polishes from Sassy Sauce but recently I’ve been OBSESSED with Fancy Gloss haha! I’m glad you appreciated the video! I’m not gonna front, you are right that it took foreverrrr to film haha! Shout out to sailor moon for keeping me company while I filmed! :’D
Thank you for the feedback! I sped up the footage for most of the swatches because I didn’t want the video to be too long, but next time I’ll leave them at their regular length :)
Do you (or anyone) have a recommendation for a cheaper version of crime and punishment? I want that nice minty green thats not too saturated and not too blue or yellow, which it seems like this one is, but I'm having a hard time finding one elsewhere.
asking as someone who hasn't tried Holo Taco (yet), would you say their formulas are overall thicker than Mooncat and ILNP? It seems like it in this video.
I disagree slightly with the other comment, but that just shows that opinions vary! I feel like Holo Taco tends to be thicker than ILNP and Mooncat but I’d rank them thickest to least thick as follows: Holo Taco, Mooncat, ILNP.
You keep mentioning other more affordable brands, can someone tell me their names please. I know of cirque colors, mooncat and some others, but they all have the same price range. Idk
For sure! Some of my favorite low-cost specialty nail polish brands are ILNP, KBShimmer, Emily de Molly, Lyn B Designs, Fancy Gloss, and Cracked Polish! Some of these brands do sales pretty regularly, too! I hope this helps!
I got Everything Taco not realizing that it was essentially the same as a KBShimmer polish I have. The swatches made it look very different, so it made me feel tricked.
@@bluecobaltsteph2689Ice and Easy. It’s a favorite and I used half of it in a year, so I guess I will use both up but still. I got the HT shade thinking it was a similar texture but different colors. 😅
I loved this video and your honest opinion, I also appreciate how you talk a lot about prices and if they're worth it
I’m glad you liked it! Prices are so important when considering whether to purchase in my opinion.

That is acutually relly sad, I hoped to get a lilac one 🥲 but thanks for the info.
Nooooo! I had no idea that they were only going to be doing black and that they’d be so expensive! That’s such a bummer!
Yes please I am excited for more nail polish content!!!
Agree 💯
Omg I’m so glad to hear that, I honestly have been nervous to make the transition!

I recommend you check out Night Owl Lacquer! They have a recent crème of the month that may be a similar color and it’s $8!
asking as someone who hasn't tried Holo Taco (yet), would you say their formulas are overall thicker than Mooncat and ILNP? It seems like it in this video.
As someone who has lots of both, I would say thicker than Mooncat but similar to ILNP but it can certainly vary by finish.
