Sean Woodburn hows it going! I unfortunately don’t live in Hawaii, but I have all my gear still. I’m actually looking at moving to Florida, so hopefully I’ll get more videos out there. There are casting competitions, but we don’t do them. We just try and cast as far as we can from the rocks to get past the ledges. We use Talon 62 XXH or Big Island Special 13’ XXH matched with a Newell S550 or S546 with 80# mono and 250# Shock Leader 🤙 I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything in a long time. Life has gotten pretty busy Mahalo
@@ShakaOutdoors Thanks for the reply! Take that gear shark fishing!! I am very familiar with Talon and Newell speaks for itself. G reat stuff to be sure. I use a very similar rig for oversize sturgeon that you use for Ulua. Breakaway HDX-T Rod that is very similar to your Talon. I use either Daiwa SLX-SHA50 or Penn Senator 4/0 because the cast so well with heavy line and have harness lugs. We are targeting sturgeon over 10 feet from shore. I am sliding my baits. Do you have a source of gear in Fl. yet? I can hook you up with the right suppliers.
I’m apart of Tram Breakaway here in Texas, I’m very aware of what the Breakaway HD-X can do as I have one that I put a 50W on. The big difference between the Talon/Big Island Special, is that you can sit on the rod and make it bend at a near 90 degree angle to boost the fish straight up. The HD-X will snap under that kind of pressure and even Nick Meyer says that it’s not supposed to bow like that. When I move to Florida I’m gonna use it for the mullet/ Blacktip run. I’ll be doing a lot of shoreline fishing, but my goal is to get on a commercial fishing boat or some kind of charter.
I’m also getting into building rods, so I build my own smaller stuff, but I’d working on building a boat rod rn. So we will see how everything goes in the coming months. I do need new cameras and a new computer to run better editing software
They use special rods 12-13 feet irw big island special or talons but there are off the shelf poles like nitro or penn carnage and others just prefers to use stiffer better rods for one of the pound for pound toughest fish on the coral reefs AloHa
My poles are a talon 62 (13' xxh ulua pole), big island special (13' xxh), and a penn carnage (13' xh). The off the shelf poles are good to, but after long fights and drainers id say put your money into the poles because itll save your back in the end. Aloha
We sell off the shelf, custom or blanks. My HDX-T has three butts. 12' with gimble. 13' regular butt. 14' with gimble. These are designed to throw heavy baits to large fish. Fantastic shark rod. I have the Talon ulua rods. Great product but harder to get now and not as well priced.
Yessah .. keep up the videos bro
Someday I'll see a new video from you
Cheee been waiting for new vids, always action!
Really beautiful!
I subbed.
Do you guys have casting competitions there?
What weights are you casting?
What kinds of reel and line?
Cheers!

Hit me up on facebook or maybe we can work out a way to communicate.
I am a rep for the company that manufactures sliding rigs on the mainland.
