A wonderful book that contains 51 maps of Tolkien's world is "Journey's of Frodo", by Barbara Strachey. I have a paperback first edition, from 1981. Strachey undertook extensive research in order to accurately match the journey with the maps. This video shows the book. ruclips.net/video/XxcTmbsqmEs/видео.html

the heading "8.1 Healing Herbs" is amazing, it gives 30 entries making my d30 useful. thanks YeOldeGeek.

it also make a great low tech traveller setting, with the archaeological department from Capital nosing around those strange humps in the ground not far away....
(I was shocked myself of the prices for this stuff now, I ditch loads of it last century.....)

Nice review of an old favorite. My limited expectation at the time of first purchase was that Bree should be "just like TSR, but with Middle-earth place names". Oh how very limited was my imagination.
Fortunately I have come around to appreciating Bree and the MERP line for what they are - and you sir, have covered that nicely!
    Cheers!

In the early to mid 90s, I actually phoned Iron Crown Enterprises to ask a question. This was before you would just pop onto the internet. Who should answer the phone but Heike Kubasch, the author of this module. I was shocked. I had (and still have) this module that I had bought brand new only a couple of years before. She was excited it was still to be found in a new condition. We spoke for a few minutes and she was very nice and helpful. It just goes to show how small some of these "big" gaming companies were outside of TSR. They really took a personal interest in their business, their products and their customers..

There will be more, only problem is that I've just used bits of other supplements.. at least with this one I've used more than half of the content in my own games.

I remember this product, never owned but had in my possession as I was the one to GM Merp. This was when maps were maps and not battle mats.
Noble knight has it for 95$ us - ouch

Ignore Noble Knight, it's under $50 on Ebay.

No Prancing Pony Inn?! That's an iconic site in LOTR, but I understand why it wouldn't exist since MERP takes place long before the books.

Funny; I just used this tonight to help design barrows for my OSE game. But we're also going to be running an Against the Darkmaster game using my old MERP modules.

Well done! I had this back in the day (and may still. Have to check the filing cabinets in storage) and enjoyed my read-throughs of it. I did mine it for ideas for me AD&D games, often using the various barrows and maps for various -grave robbing- -treasure hunting- exploration missions.

I had them as a kid and honestly they were wasted on me. We were exclusively trained in the ancient arts of the murder hobo and it took looking back on it some decades later to fully enjoy it in the spirit intended.

Same - I was looking at getting a lot through Ebay about 5 years ago, but turned my nose up at paying £20 per module... oops. But selling histories show that bargains can be found occasionally with a bit of patience.

Not 'officially', as sadly MERP got nuked in the late 90s.
