How can I play this game? I have it. I’m stoned watching this and it just takes me back to a nice Saturday when I was a kid, playing this. Takes me back I love it. Great vid
I remember this game very well. Used to play online back in like 2004. First time I ever played a game online. Boy racing games have really come a long way. Thanks for the memories.
This is the game that introduced me to Papyrus, I went to the States as usual back in summer of 2003 (I was 17 at the time) and my cousin took me to a store (can't remember if it was Target or Kmart) I wanted to buy NASCAR Thunder 2003 for the PC, none of the EA Sports NASCAR games were available at the moment only that game called "NASCAR Racing 4" I was like "oh well, I'll buy this one then", MAN! I loved it when I started playing it, the best for me was that I could drive on the pace lap and during pit stops, have so many memories playing this game.
Still have it...Still run it! I purchased NR4 on the day it came out in early February of 2001, roughly about two weeks before the Daytona 500 that took Dale Senior (RIP)...I originally ran it on my old Gateway desktop running Win 2K Pro with a decent CPU and through a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP, always with an old MS Sidewinder control pad...When my desktop finally died, I'd only kept the game because of its sentimental value due to being the last Papyrus with Senior and his car...Until recently, I have not been able to install it on any of my last 3 laptops because even though the CPU and the various Win OSes I was using accepted the game, the flimsy built-in Intel graphics chipset could not handle what the game threw at it! This time however, I went with a laptop that featured an AMD APU with a Radeon R5 chipset on board... To my surprise, the game loaded up flawlessly, along with my old Sidewinder pad...Everything works, and I've managed to make some new N4 car skins via Photoshop and importing them as .tga files - just like I once used to!
Awesome! I got this copy while I was trying to find NR2003 back in.... maybe 2014. I got it along with NR2002 at this nice, but long since closed now, old pc gaming shop. The game ran fine on the windows 7 laptop which had integrated graphics. When I eventually got this pc (win10) I couldn't get the setup.exe to even boot up (same problem with nr2002). How I eventually got it working still has me confused. I ran the setup.exe and it did absolutely nothing. I forgot to close it out through task manager, and I went to switch out from my desktop monitor to my sim rig tv (Was going to play some nr2003 which works fine). Whenever I hooked up the hdmi cable from the tv to the computer POOF. The setup immediately fired up, and went without issue. Same thing worked with nr2002. It still shocks me though how solid this game still is. Other than the pack separating at plate tracks, this game is still one of the more realistic nascar games made.
@@SimRacer2001 - I might go and look for NR2003 anyway, because of all the mods available for it... Other than car skins (ALL of my full 43 car roster are created fantasy skins - including Jimmie Johnson 48, my favorite, who was NOT available when NR4 was released - Lowe's was still #31 Mike Skinner), there's not much you can do with N4 as far as mods... 2003 was created to be much more open for quite a few downloadable car, track, physics, and even sound mods, which is why over 15 years later, it's still a popular racing simulatior... I've been using strictly a laptop for well over a decade now, having long since retired my desktop, sold the wheel and floor pedals at a flea market back then as well, and have been using my old MS Sidewinder control pad ever since (Not really the same, but you still have control over everything)... I still like to design my own cars, but now I incorporate a template on Photoshop, save the finished skin as a targa (.tga), and then import it into the NR4 sim via the car creation feature... I have a whole cup series consisting of strictly my own unique drivers and creations! I might eventually obtain NR 2003 from somewhere, and see what I can do with all that in time...
You can see the progression to NR2003. It would be interesting to see how the NR4 Talladega track compares to the NR2002 and NR2003 Talladega tracks. Also, NR4 uses a 2D physics engine, so it's impossible to flip.

I remember this and having the Microsoft racing wheel and pedals. Good times, it was a great game and in my opinion unforgiving, which would piss me off but the realism I felt was great.
