  • The Dig true story is compared to the Ralph Fiennes movie about Basil Brown's discovery of the Sutton Hoo ship burial on Edith Pretty's estate. We examine the historical accuracy of The Dig movie. Was Edith Pretty a widow? Did Basil Brown's discovery of the Sutton Hoo treasure happen in one summer? Is the romance between Rory Lomax and Peggy Piggot real? Is Stuart Piggot's sexuality depicted accurately? Did Edith Pretty donate the Sutton Hoo treasure? Find answers to these fact vs. fiction questions and more as we pit The Dig true story vs. the movie starring Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan as archaeologist Basil Brown and the estate's owner where the Sutton Hoo excavation took place, Edith Pretty.

I think its a presumption that the movie implies any romantic interest between Ms Pretty and Brown. I think the invitation to dinner could just as easily be interpreted as the desire of a lonely widow to dine with a new friend and engage in some adult conversation.

No joke- I am in the campsite next to sutton Hoo Right now- Today I went there and it was amazing! We got to stand on the mound where the ship was and I found out that 14 of the 18 mounds were looted with the one with the ship being a failed attempt to loot! It was such a fun experience! We Also say the (moulds) of bones from the medieval times! It was where the sand had covered the bones and the bones withered away! It was so fun and I had so many questions! Best experience ever and would 100% go again! It is a must see before you die!

after watching the film it seems a shame that a popular trend of anything made after 2020 also has to address sexuality and race and history gets changed to revolve around these matters...Dr Who has gone just the same....fake history being told before our very eyes..

Netflix adding bs fluff ruined that movie for me. When it got off the dig and onto the bs love story, I turned it off.

The whole romance part felt fake and superfluous. I figured the gay part was just to meet diversity quotas. It's shameful and bad storytelling.
