I'm not sure why there are down votes. I think this a brilliant scene of a mother and father trying to calm their young children during the middle of a bombing. I'd imagine this scene affected a lot of American filmgoers, putting faces to the European civilians they read about in newspapers that were far away and across the ocean.

the votes down are from the marvel comic fools who can't live without CGI nonsense.
It's a brilliant and terrifying scene. Suitable only for those with an IQ above 100 to understand its impact.

@@user-cf7pe3qg1c I can imagine how things must be in the Ukraine, and how terrifying it would be, especially if you are taking care of someone else, young or old.

Dreadful to think that this is still going on now- little children and their beloved pets are still being terrified by bombings with parents desperately trying to keep them all calm and safe. Just dreadful.

Terrifying ... still frightening, even without special effects. Just great sound and acting.

Mine too, I named my daughter Miniver Rose 🥀. She’s 25 now and the comments she gets from the older generation is lovely all because her mum loved the 40s.😘🥰

@Barbie Mortimer Stop!!! That's soooo cute! I love that so much 🩷🩷. I basically only watch 40s movies. I've watched all of Greer Garson's movies and I loved them all. She was a brilliant actress. Absolutely adore her 🥰

On this 75th anniversary of VE day I'm remembering my grandfather (1895-1941), uncle (1919-1994) and father (1901-1992) all in the Royal Navy, and my mother (1922-2018) who worked for Thames Naval Control for the duration of the war and who loved this film.

The last line: “mommy, they nearly killed us…” gets me. To all the children caught up in wars they themselves did not start.

It's an amazing scene, that captures some of the horrors of the Battle of Britain.

But it wasn't the first months of the War - the Blitz happened in 1940-41.

If I remember correctly, this scene does in fact take place during the Blitz around September, 1940. The scenes involving the father/husband (Mr. Miniver) a volunteer who forms up with other private boat owners to take party in Operation Dynamo at Dunkirk in May,/June 1940 have already taken place.

Yes but the Battle of Britain led to attacks on air fields and remember these people were living south of London different areas of London were bombed

Remember though that we already know that a year has passed because in the pub half way through the movie we hear on the radio the German propaganda broadcaster say 8 months have passed since the declaration of war, and that’s before the Dunkirk part.
