Coors was higher ABV than other beers. It was illegal east of the Mississippi. My step-father was a truck driver and delivered furniture out west and made many bootleg backhauls back to the east coast. Paid very well.

This movie opened the same weekend as "Star Wars" (or "A New Hope" as the millennials call it). _And it won!_ That's right. When "Star Wars" and "Smokey and the Bandit" went toe to toe at the box office back in the summer of '77, "Smokey and the Bandit" came out on top! Never let Star Wars nerds forget that.

"For the good old American life: For the money, for the glory, and for the fun... mostly for the money."
Fun Fact: The second-highest grossing movie released in 1977, after Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977).
Justice For All Fact: A majority of the lines and quotes spoken by Jackie Gleason's character, Sheriff Buford T. Justice, was improvised. Jackie Gleason said that his cafe scene with Burt Reynolds was not in the original story; it was Gleason's idea. Buford T. Justice was the name of a real Florida Highway Patrolman known to Burt Reynolds' father who was once Chief of Police of Jupiter, Florida.
Music Enthusiast Fact: Hal Needham asked Jerry Reed to write a theme song for the film. A couple of hours later, Reed presented what would become East Bound And Down (1977) to Needham. With an acoustic guitar, Reed started to play it and Needham immediately stopped him. Thinking Needham didn't like it, Reed offered to re-write the song. To which Needham replied: "If you change one note, I'll kill you!" and the song went on to become one of Reed's biggest hits.
Beer Enthusiast Fact: Coors Beer was actually never illegal to transport east of the Mississippi, but due to the location of the Coors bottling plant in Colorado it was very difficult to get out of the Rocky Mountains so it was very hard to get into places East of Texas. The Coors Brewing Co. did not have any authorized distributors east of the Mississippi River because the beer was unpasteurized and the company could not be sure it would not spoil if it was transported too far. So the company just didn't sell it eastward, until refrigeration and transportation technology improved.
Automobile Enthusiast Fact: On the DVD documentary, Burt Reynolds says that a senior executive at Pontiac promised him a free Trans-Am if the movie became a hit. It did and the 1977 T-Top Trans-Am became one of the hottest selling cars of the year. When the movie became a hit, Reynolds expected the executive to come through with his promise. But the Trans-Am never came. After a few months, Reynolds, (who was afraid of looking like one of those pretentious stars looking for freebies), finally called Pontiac. As it turned out, the executive that made the promise had retired and the new executive refused to keep the promise that was made by the previous Pontiac Trans Am executive.

Bryan here. One thing I’m enjoying about watching movies with Beaver is how they take me back to my childhood. I’ve seen most of the movies we’ve watched for the channel (hadn’t seen this one though). It’s been awesome to experience movies I’d seen a million times as a child or a much younger adult and to remember how I saw them then but also how I see them through the lens of an older and (hopefully) wiser person.

    The Legend

    Eastbound and Down
Also three actors in the movie stared in The Dukes of Hazzard

This franchise is BEGGING for a prequel. An origin story. Set in the early or mid 1960s. Find hip young actors who resemble Reynolds and Reed to play Bandit and the Snowman, and reveal a lot of the stories about how they met the minor characters in this movie, like the Grave Robber, Foxy Lady and, of course, the Burdettes. A younger and thinner Burford Justice can play a roll too just as long as he never actually finds out who Bandit is or what he looks like. Let's start pre-production now!

    1. Movir magic: Empty beer cases at the Texarkana storage place.
    2. Thanks to this movie CB sales skyrocketed.
    3. There is a TV edited version with the language severely overdubbed.
    4. Jackie Gleason absolutely kills in this movie. 😇
    5. Jr. was there to give Gleason someone to work off of.
    6. It's against the law to inform of police activity. Especially right in front of the officer.
    7. High School boys all over the country had a crush on Sally Field.😍😋
    8. Not too many people do this one so THANKS😁
    9. "My dog didn't bite you mister. Fred, absolutely don't like grease."
    10. "Hold on to your ass Fred." I still use that.
    11. There are two more but not as good.
    12. Three Trans-Am cars were used. Not including the stunt cars.
    13. It's a shame you didn't care much for this thing. JK😏

I don't know that Coors had to pay a cent for this movie. At the time it was more of a regional product that was illegal in many states. Because it was illegal it had a forbidden fruit type of aura around it and it was being smuggled (maybe not by the truck load) into areas it couldn't be bought. They could have paid for product placement but they didn't need to because the idea of the movie was based on a real issue at the time.

I had one of those Trans-ams. Same color with all the extras. It was fast and such a great car. I miss it. 10,000 was the price for a new one but now it will run you 100,000 for a clean one. Great car but now I can`t afford to get another one.

My first Favorite Movie of all time. I was in High School at the time. Trivia fact this movie almost beat out Star Wars for Best Movie in 1977. I think it was like 49%/51%. It was filmed mostly around Atlanta GA and Hal Needham was one of the best car stuntman of all time. Pontiac only gave them 2 trans am for the Firebird and the first one was destroyed after that first bridge jump. So for the rest of the movie they had to take parts from the first model to keep the second model going. The sales of
the Trans Amm went thru the roof right after.
The biggest thing you 2 didnt pick up on was the whole "CB RADIO" thing. Sales of the CB radio took off. Now its seems with days of cellphones the only ones who still uses CB radios are the truckers.
This movie had a Big Impact on the entire Southern culture of the time. You can buy a portable one at a truck stop and if your doing a road trip you can talk to truckers anywhere and ask for info about places, roads etc.
The "Humor" of the time was very different much stuff went right over your heads. When Sheriff Justice said "What the hell is the world coming tooo" that was a direct racial comment against blacks. If you think thats bad you should watch The 70's TV Series ""All in the Family"" The amount of racial comments was made fun of. Now people would have a heart attack if All in the Family was shown.
I cant say I really like your reaction because you didnt include enough of the clips, with a lot of the lines. I know RUclips has become a bunch of SOB to reaction makers about what and how much they can include. This is WRONG! I'm too cheap to buy anyone Patreon thing.
There are sequels to this movie but don't bother with them. This is the perfect example of how sequels get worse to bad...
For example, In the ALIEN movie series, some of the sequels, are Great, but then they also get bad.

If you liked the stunts in this movie, you should watch another fun Burt Reynolds movie called Hooper. What's it about? One of the songs from the movie sums it up. It's about "the life of a Hollywood stuntman".

@@BluntReactionsBBNeedham directs it. Although the title Hooper refers to a real stuntman named Buddy Joe Hooker, the film is basically a tribute to stuntmen in general. Hooper is also one of the four movies in which Sally Field plays Burt's girlfriend..

Burt and Sally dated for years after this and before he died he said she was the love of his life but she doesn’t feel the same way in her autobiography she said he was a bad kisser and very controlling.
Most of the movie was Adlibbed because there wasn’t much of a script.
I was 6 when it came out.
The president of GM promised Burt a new trans am for the rest of his life after the movie came out because sales of Trans Am skyrocketed after it came out but the guy died two years later and never got his Trans Ams.
