I agree with most of your points, but as an autistic person I have to say I didn’t find the “awe of the tism” segment offensive.
I’m guessing from you saying “that community” in reference to the autistic community, that you yourself are not autistic. That joke doesn’t really play into any negative stigma or stereotype.
Popping bubble wrap isn’t a stereotype, it’s a stereotypy. A stereotypy is a repetitive or ritualistic movement, posture, or utterance. Stereotypies are common in those with autism but just about anyone can have them.
Also, you talk about autistic people in a kinda condescending way. We do not “have to struggle with being autistic”, that’s one step removed from saying we suffer from it.
Autism isn’t something to mock or belittle someone for and people shouldn’t use it as an insult or punchline but it shouldn’t be blanket banned from jokes. Even some autistic people joke about it.
All in all, autistic headcanons are a big thing in the online autistic community and Awetism is a phrase used in the autism empowerment movement. This video’s creator very well could be autistic.
I’m glad that you’re concerned for us, but you need to realize that a lot of us are grown adults who care for families and hold down careers. Some Autistic people struggle more than their neurotypical peers, but that doesn’t mean you need to get offended on our behalf.
I still think your opinions are valid, but I feel that your view of autism is flawed. I’d suggest you look up resources about autism from the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and avoid anything from Autism Speaks.
Dude as an autistic person; I love the autism jokes, so don’t speak for us. I don’t know if you’re autistic or not, but even if you are a ton of us LOVE making jokes like this so it’s not something to complain about. Gus is totally autistic in my opinion. How is this contributing to ableism by making that headcanon? It’s a cute little relatable thing. Also Luz was heavily coded as being suicidal, I’ve been in her exact situation and basically acted exactly like that, she literally said she should have never existed. They obviously can’t outright say she’s suicidal given the show airs on Disney Channel, but they did a lot to make it clear that’s what’s going on. And the Kipo thing? Really? It’s just a funny little comparison, it’s not saying TOH is ripping off Kipo or anything? Its literally a fun connection between the two. I can’t speak on the other stuff you said but for what I am replying to, this edit is FINE. It’s totally cool if you don’t find the jokes funny or don’t really like it, but to go out and act like it’s this incredibly problematic thing and the creator needs to take a break from social media over it is very strange.
