    I have received mine last week via a reseller and it appears one way Polygon can get the price down that much is by skimping on QC. There are issues with the black paint on the underside of the downtube where it bends towards the BB and in the same section there is also a dab of weld seemingly random on the downtube, maybe a dent or hole that was filled? There are other paint issues as well including the rainbow effect paint already being scratched out of the box. Seatstay chain protector adhesive is already spotty and peeling off. It did not come with Hans Dampf tires but Vee Flow Snap. I guess I can live with all of that but what baffled me was the rear wheel. It was out of true by 2-3mm and I have found more than a dozen spots where the spokes where scratched down to the blank metal, not including the sections where the spokes cross. The bike in the test appears to show the same, look at the spoke directly below the chainstay at 7:15 and the second spoke to the right of the valve at 8:07. I have not seen a new wheel like this and that is with me having gotten some bargain sets in the past. The front wheel by comparison looks ok-ish, but also easily noticeable out of true. Talking to the retailer makes it appear like issues like this are not unknown to them. I assume many bikes will be perfectly fine, but bikes that may be rejected at another brand might get a pass here for the sake of overall margin and pricing. I guess that the slightly higher price Marin Bikes which come from Polygon as well go through stricter QC.

    Got the T8 (first full sus mtb) a month or so ago, all in all I am pretty satisfied. I'm 185 cm x 80 kg and got the size L. As novice rider I like the brakes, they are soft biting yes, but so far they always had plenty of stopping power on the trails I ride. >The lack of harsh bite is a plus for me, I never felt like flying over the bars for a sudden stop. My other bike is a gravel bike, so on fire roads and smooth climbs I lock both fork and rear shock and still it feels like pushing a freight cart. Not the best climber at all... but once it starts rolling even on just the slightest downhill it picks up and keeps momentum super easily and it's a real pleasure to ride. As you said, not ideal for long cross-country days in the saddle, at least not without faster rolling tires and a stiffer suspension setup. but for an afternoon in the woods is the best.

    • @baddriversofcolga
      @baddriversofcolga 3 года назад +3

      Yeah, honestly I think people that review bikes for a living are way pickier about brakes than your average rider. I've had what most bike reviewers consider crappy brakes on the bikes I've owned and yet they've never had an issue stopping me. Now I can get it if you're doing 3000 foot downhill runs especially if you weigh a lot, but for most riders on most trails most brakes will be fine.

    Yes, the bike sways a little when pedaling upwards, but if you do it skillfully and do not tear the bike out of place, everything is fine. In general, the bike is excellent and worth the money.

    • @superjuice2803
      @superjuice2803 3 года назад +6

      For what its worth there are some long term reviewers out there who have simply added volume spacers to the 34 and the dps to help smooth out the suspension a bit. The DPS from polygon generally comes with a .4 spacer and the recommended upgrade is .8, as for the fork you can add up to 4 volume spacers on the 34, so sticking a few 10cc spacers in there would go a long way to making this bike a better climber and also reduce the likelihood of bottoming out the fork, it is very soft (by design) at delivery.

    Riding a Small T7 with a hair more travel BUT the RS Recon fork I feel is its one weakness. As for the brakes, I will have to try metalic pads to see what he’s talkin about but I think the brakes on my bike which are 4-pot up front and 2-pot rear work just fine for my style of riding. I guess because mine is a Small with 27.5 im luggin around a bit less weight so i feel my bike climbs pretty good. The WTB 2.4 trail bosses are better suited for the longer climbs. I do wish I had that Fox 34. Other than that, pretty happy with the bike… excellent value!
    EDIT: Oh and if you do get one of thse bikes, IMMIDIATELY change the saddle as the entity one it comes with is no bueno. Some complain about the grips too but I find the entity ones are ok. Just got me some PNW Loam grips.

    Finally an honest review of this bike......That I wish i had seen before I purchased one.
    I'm getting on the Siskiu T8 Large 29er from a 2010 Scott Spark 40 with 26" wheels, and man, chalk and cheese. The T8's sooooo much harder to climb on. Almost all of my local tracks are techy ascents and descents and this is not the bike for that kind of riding, well the ascents anyway. The geometry is completely different and I'm hoping I get used to it in the next ride or two because at the moment I'm struggling to get through tracks i usually breeze through.
    I'm feeling a little gutted because I was really excited, but oblivious to how different it would be. This bike is built for descent, and it seems quite good at that. I'm not sold on the new 1x12 speed gearing either. I honestly feel the 2x and 3x with the front derailleur is still better.
    Just my opinion, but if you are looking for a bike to go fast up and down hill, I don't reckon this is the bike for you.

    Can you guys explain what active suspension is? Just curious on knowing how it works and what bike would and would not have active suspension

    • @superjuice2803
      @superjuice2803 3 года назад +1

      They are just referring to how much the suspension moves when pedaling. On a climb more rider weight is generally shifted to the center/front of the bike so the rear suspension tends to engage and kind of "bob" up and down, hence active. However, Fox forks and shocks can all be adjusted with volume spacers, so this suspension can be tuned to make it a better ride for different types of riders. Polygon delivers this bike with a soft suspension setup, adding a larger spacer in the rear shock and several volume spacers in the fork goes a long way to leveling out the travel on this suspension setup.

    Radon Bikes, a german direct sales brand, does give you the same components for under 2000 Euros. Or you can spend an additional 500 to get a Fox Performance Suspension and a Carbon Frame. Don´t get me wrong, Polygon, Canyon and YT do give you all a lot of bike for your money, but if you should happen to live in those selectded european countries and be able to get your hand on one of these beauties, don´t hesitate.

    Actually haven't found the suspension too bad for smooth climbs but man it was brutal for a tech climb. The softness keeps traction, but it also makes it a little more work to lift/throw the front wheel around to get over roots/bumps on a technical ascent so I was basically dying by the time I hit the top. A lot of that is lack of fitness and being a friggin noob, but damn did it feel like picking up a sleeping cat sometimes trying to get the front end up at low speeds. I have since added volume spacers and pumped the rear up, as well as located the front rebound adjustment (I did say I was a noob right?) and the suspension is night and day. Hoping to tackle that same tech climb and see how much better it is now. It has been a dream to ride in every other scenario since doing that.

      I'm thinking of doing the suspension spacer hack to my T8. Can you explain which spacers you used and what rebound adjust you did in detail? Any info would be great thanks!

    • @skartimus
      @skartimus 3 года назад

      @@animaysh hey man, this is almost certainly not useful to you unless you are a fellow man whale, but I have the largest spacer in from the set (red I think), rebound turn it fully ccw then 1 notch cw, and my psi is 250. I weigh 128kg without gear, which is why this is probably not useful to you, I don't see many dude my size riding at all lol. If you are anything north of 95 I'd still do this but possibly less psi/rebound. Front forks remain to be tweaked fully as they handle fine on Max rebound but I'll be adding spacers to them soon too.

    • @animaysh
      @animaysh 3 года назад

      Thanks for the reply. I've done the 0.4 to 0.6 spacer on my rear shock and now it never hits max. Fronts however are always maxed so I'll probably do the spacer thing. I'm total noob too and went through the tech climbing hell. I found that locking off the suspension makes a huge difference. Getting the weight more over the front handle bars helped too.

    So I think the structure of the videos is confusing for this field test and not like ones in the past. You either need to leave the Pro's and Con's to the Pro's and Con's section or just omit Pro's and Con's as you talked about Pro's and Con's in the initial impression. I've found myself maybe watching the first half and bailing as everything was said. Brakes suck, suspension good. Got it. Doesn't need to be repeated 5 times.

As I'm coming from a carbon frame XC-Bike with 100/100 mm travel and now looking for something more fun and capable, I'm just a bit worried by its weight, climbing and going in a straight line performance. Any suggestions of a bike a little lighter but similiar in fun, travel and allround performance?

    I just got this bike. Looks great but it's full of noises -creaks,pops,clicks. I dropped the fork slightly and there is zero grease on the headset upper and lower ?? I'm suspecting some of the noise is the internal cables rattling in the frame. I'm going to try adding foam over the internal cables to see if that solves but not I'm not sure how I feel about it. Just picking it up to move the bike and the bike creaks,clicks,pops all over the place . Bike seems to perform great but noises are driving me crazy. I've had it one week now. Now fixed read my reply

    • @JagEdge
      @JagEdge 3 года назад +4

      UPDATE - Fixed. Using a mechanics stethoscope I isolated the noises to the headset and cables/hose in the frame. I greased the headset myself and added jagwire internal foam damper to the internals. I didn't disconnect the hose/cables. I cut multiple 3-4 inch sections and cut a slit opening in them so I can wrap around the cables than I used tape to close and secure and slid the sections in one by one. Bike seems perfect now. No weird noises. 👍👍👍

    I don't get how brakes don't have enough grab but you can lock the tire fairly easily. I have a T7 well broken in and it has been great. I also don't get how other bikes can have virtually identical components but are rated "better". Overpriced treks feel exactly the same unless they're specd with better components.

    USA customer:
    my bike arrived with the derailleur hanger stripped and a loose cassette due to a slightly stripped lockring. customer service has taken 3-7 business days to respond to each email, and after the 7 days, I had to ask why there was no response-she said she “lost” my email. Both times they’ve asked me if the parts were stripped, even though I attached pictures of threads that were no longer on each part. For the most recent response, they asked if I could still use the hanger. What the hell is going on? Buyer beware :(

    Do the current Grip conpression dial stay puy ot will it shift podiyion while riding rough terrain or bunny hopping? I had a 32 where it was upgraded fromctd to Grip cus damper broke the service centre told me. Both were not super secure, but i rode quite hard with the Grip, but had to ziptie it secure in open mode. Have they changes the Grip dial mechanism or spring to prevent it? I wasnt happy that when my T8 arrived (around 5/01/21) the cool lil cardboard box inside that had all the paperwork and tools etc had been opened and pretty much dumped out inside the big box and the big box had a hole in the bottom from shipping so who knows what was missing.
    More importantly- they had Vee tire co tires on the bike instead of the Schwalbes that they listed. - Those are worth about half as much by the way. -also a paint chip by the emblem on the headtube.
    So I emailed them -only about the tires- asking them to take the vee's back and send me the Schwalbes...
    The bikes online guys try to distance themselves from polygon like it was a different company and took zero responsibility for the manufacturer swap. (polygon is the only bike online bikes sells)
    They said there was a shortage (obviously you can buy as many Schwalbes as you want on Amazon).
    They said I should be glad i didnt have to wait longer for the right tires ( I did wait about 4-5 months).
    Im ok with taking a chance to save money adjusting the bike myself etc, Im not ok with this company not sending me what they advertised and what I paid for.
