E-Bike Wild Camping | The Forest Bunkers

- We navigate our way by E-Bike through a dense riparian forest on the former Czechoslovakian border, our mission: to find the remnants of Second World War bunkers hidden in the overgrowth.
This picturesque but unforgiving landscape tests my E-Bike manufacturer's claim of 'tremendous grip and mechanical stability' in an all terrain scenario.

My hammock is much lighter and more compact than a tent, 2 layer wp with bug screen, doesn't require ground cover or mat, and comes with an espresso bar. I don't like laying in the dirt with the critters at night. Other than that, I give him a 10. This is the best amateur video I can recall.
Hey, wanted to let yu know that youre living my dream. Your videos are very well produced, interesting,, and I'd love it if some day you'd come to California to the hills out here. Well done you!!!
Thanks for reaching out and appreciate the feedback. If only I could take you up on that offer, it'd be quite the adventure.
Thanks for watching!
You should get yourself either a folding solar charger or a solar electric generator so you can charge your bike as you camp. I have a 72v solar charging system on the way to pair with a stealth bomber with a 72v 60ah battery. Ride for a day then camp for a day then ride again.
During filming inside of the Bunker you Focused on a pipe that you questioned about it being a Urinal. It may have been a Hand Granade Disposal port. I've seen things in the past that mentioned that accessory in a WW2 structure.
Thanks for the info. I concluded that they must have been a disposal chute for empty ammunition cartridge cases but your hand grenade disposal theory is plausible.
Thanks for watching!
I was going to say the same thing but searched the comments first to see if anyone else brought it up. It's called a grenade sump. When I was in the Marines we always included one when we dug out a foxhole. In the case of a foxhole, it was just a deep hole but in a bunker the way they did it here makes total sense. You could probably also use it to grenade someone on the outside of the bunker if you were getting assaulted.
Good video, great quality and a dog that can do 38kph! Subbed.
Great video I think that fat bike is brilliant it goes anywhere. Great site to camp out with so much history around you. Naden is so enjoying it in those woods and well behaved. Keep up the great work.
Since it's my first E-Bike I don't have anything to compare it to, but a lot of the features really suit my style of riding and the components are holding up really well after a lot of use.
As for Naden, I can't imagine a solo camp without him now. For some folk, taking a dog along on trips like this is a hindrance but he has become an essential part of my outdoor experience.
Not alone go anywhere with your dog so good
Another fantastic video, I really enjoyed viewing it, you and your dog make a great team, well done and best wishes🙂
Thanks Tom,
Not sure how I'm going to top this one, the ride was fun and the conditions were just right for the time of the year.
As for Naden, I'm glad for him to take a lot of credit for making this video worth viewing. The outdoors lifestyle has become second nature to him.
Great video! Really informative and interesting! ... Those bunkers are quite a lot bigger inside than I imagined them to be! Looking forward to the next one!
I'll need to return to see the 7 remaining bunkers and also get a look inside that museum to understand what all those rooms inside were used for.
Thanks for watching
Cracking video! If I were you, I'd steer clear of Eastern Europe for a while.
Awesome video.
Great video but you had some rope falling off your trailer, near the back wheel. Nedan had a comical face when you were eating a chocolate biscuit lol.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I think that rope might have just been Naden's leash which I use the secure him to the trailer so no harm done.
42 mph and your dog seemed don’t have problem to keep up. Boy he’s fast! 😁👍
998 well done!
This couldn't be more in my wheelhouse. Great video and adventure!
Pretty cool dude
Interesting video pal subscribed
Glad you enjoyed it, welcome to The NORTH Outdoors!
Well done video 👌
Have you tried putting knobby tire on Mr Burley ? I want the the Burley fat Tire kit but can't find them . haven't tried off brand tires .
I just got my 4season tent today so lol I'm slowly dialing my set up . Cheers from 🇨🇦
Interesting and accessible for me so I'll be visiting. Glad you showed the noticeboard at the end, now I know where you were.
I have been looking at the Fat Tire Kit and think not only would it match my bike aesthetically but would deal with the bumps and vibrations a lot better than the standard tyres.
Unfortunately the kit is not so easy to get hold of over here in Europe but I'm always keeping an eye out.
@@roughshooter29 Very observant, good job!
There are clues to my whereabouts in all my videos if you look hard enough, but on this occasion I encourage people to go visit these fascinating structures which Is a snapshot in time of one of the most important periods in modern history.
Thanks for watching.
What battery, motor and controller do you have? Im trying to find a good battery and don't want to buy sand caps
Nice... can you tell us more about the trailer ! I thought one wheel trailer is more stable specially off road?
Good luck
Single wheel trailers tend to be narrower. Since I bought the trailer solely to accommodate my dog, I needed a larger area.
Two wheels are better for heavier loads, but the trade off is a loss of stability on the longitudinal axis.
My Burley Flatbed Trailer is very stable off the trail when carrying a load and has a solid construction.
@@TheNorthOutdoorsUK thanks for the prompt response ... see tou in your next video , all the best
Great video again I am just in the process of collecting my gear to have a go my self with the same trailer no dog tho trouble is i am 67 wish me luck am I mad
James, thanks for reaching out and all the best. Make sure you strap that gear down tight!
Did you watch my review on the trailer yet?
@@TheNorthOutdoorsUK I will look at them all thanks
hi, cool camp!! where did you find the camo bike cover??
Somewhere on AliExpress if I remember correctly. I think the search term was Camouflage Motorcycle dust cover or something similar.
Thanks👍
What kind ebike is that, bin looking to get one that can go far on a dead start. And that can take good amount camp gear for all season. For hobo traveling.
I own a customised 2021 Himiway Cruiser E- Fatbike.
Check out my Wild Camping Gear List video for a brief review.
Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Question is: Where and how you charge your ebike?
My bike has an obtainable range of 45km and in most cases I don't even need to charge my battery on camping trips.
If I'm touring and want to go beyond my allotted range, I'll either bring an identical battery or plan to charge on route at a dedicated campsite with mains charging.
A full charge takes around 8 hours so an overnighter is required.
@@TheNorthOutdoorsUK 45 km is quite low. I get more than double that on my Juiced Bike RipCurrent-S. Sounds like you need something more powerful if you want to really get out and explore. Good video btw.
So let me ask you did you change your battery and how are you able to get up to 42 miles an hour? Awesome video by the way.
The unit of speed you are seeing in my videos is kilometres per hour.
Like 26 mph.
What bike is it you are using
I think that it is a Hemingway Cruier.
What do you do about charging the bike?
Hey Richard!
I usually ride within the range of my battery but on extended journeys I take an additional battery with me.
If I feel the need to recharge my battery for any reason, I would have an overnighter at a campsite or guesthouse nearby for mains charging.
A full charge of my batteries takes approximately 8 hours.
I explain my battery management in the Ebike Wild Camping | The Big River video.
Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching!
Hi
Cam you tell me your bike make and model.
Gladly, it's a 2021 Himiway Cruiser. I have modified the bike quite a bit to suit my own bikepacking requirements but the motor and controller is original.
Very nice adventure. I do similar exploration here in western Washington state, USA. We have some interesting old bunkers and forts in remote areas and I sometimes take my fat tire ebike. Here's a recent video I did: ruclips.net/video/lfxbuX4DA7g/видео.html
If you're ever in my area I'd be happy to show you around. Btw, I'm wondering where you got the info about those bunkers? Anyway, good work and I look forward to more.
Just managed to get round to watching the video you sent a link to. I subscribed, great content! The fact that these places are so overgrown and seem lost to nature really makes them special.
It's a strange feeling stepping in to am almost pitch black bunker for the first time not knowing what to expect. In my experience I was fortunate not to have lost my footing and fell in to the cellar or disturbed any rough sleepers but despite the apparent risks it made great footage.
I'd like to do something similar in the future, so I'll keep you in mind if I do anything stateside.
As for information on the bunkers; I found a really in depth slovak website which I translated and used for source material. Since the build up to the second world war in Europe is well documented, I'd say the website's inormation seems credible.
Thanks for watching!
Very, verry intelligent. Not so much the driver.
Ebikes no es bicicleta, es moto...
You may be right in the traditional scheme of things.
Have you ever tried towing a dog and camping gear with a traditional bicycle up a hill though? 😂😪
