I loved watching these 737s from the observation deck as a kid with family.
Now working in aviation in Australia.
I was a aircraft worker at Qantas working on 737NG.
Now back in ground handling role working on 737 and airbus A320/21.
    Good memories.

I like the old colours. So much nicer than the ghastly black they're using today

Same here. Same design the top half being the teal and the other half blue.

I spent ages watching these planes from the observation deck at Chch airport when I was a kid. It was awesome. And then seeing other interesting planes there like the Korean Air 747 SP and MD 11, Britannia 767, it was great.

There was always something quite Cool to me about the 737-200, was a good little work horse! And it introduced me to a life long love of aircraft and flying! 👍

G-BYAF Boeing 757-200 leased from Britannia by Freedom Air at 02:34.
Freedom was started by Mount Cook Airline in CHC, and the 757 was their startup aircraft before they got their own 737-300's later.

It IS amazing. You don't see that feature on current 737s to the best of my knowledge.

John Eddy they are there on all 737s just they are unreliable and airlines prefer terminals/truck staircases :)

I worked on the 737 and those air stairs were a real treat to lower and retract. If the upper hand rails were not retracted the air stairs would not come

Dad was skippering 747-400s at this stage, but he always said the 73 was his favourite. I remember the school holidays, spent in the pilot's lounge and in the jumpseat - CHC-AKL, AKL-WLG, WLG-CHC.... happy days. Miss him heaps... :(

Wow, that is so cool. I first flew on them as a toddler when they had the Red/Orange and Air New Zealand title and Koru after the merger of NAC and later the teal/blue going on many trips from Dunedin to Palmerston Nth. The smell of the burnt avgas and the sound of the engines so many memories. Sorry that your Dad is no longer here.

Christchurch was the arrival point for many of Air New Zealand's 737s after their delivery flights from Seattle.

Makes sense-I believe it was the narrow jet maintenance base back then, and you'd want to give the plane a once over before putting it into revenue service.

I recon Air New Zealand should paint a Domestic A320 in old teal and dark blue stripe livery .
And paint ZK-OKM in the same style as this plane is pretty boring in terms of paint schemes right now.

    • @yudasgoat2000
      @yudasgoat2000 8 лет назад

Or the domestic A320 in NAC colours and a 777 in the DC10 livery.

Agreed. The black and white fern thing they got going now is extremely fugly, not to mention the font they use now. Not that it matters, you go to any airport in NZ now and your eyes are filled with the awful sight of Jet Star everwhere.

Air NZ neeeeeeeeds to do a retro jet paint scheme. Pity they don't have 737's no more, it wouldn't look right on the shitty ass A320's...

I was just a wee nipper when I first flew on an Air New Zealand 737-200 back then it was just after the merger of NAC with Air New Zealand. They were in a hybrid or interim livery of the Red and Orange of NAC but Air New Zealand and the familiar Koru on the tail before they went to the Teal/blue livery seen in the video. Miss the 737 espcially the reversers on landing.
