Just following up on that Mark, I just checked a booking on Ryanair which they misleading advertise as Barcelona (actually Girona, which is a considerable distance away). If I take a couple of bags and pay the credit card fee it comes to 182.69. I can book the same dates with Iberia (a real airline....) for 149.40. This is why I say that Ryanair are deliberately deceptive. They make it hard to compare but when you do you often find that they are not the cheapest (maybe the tackiest tho!).

Thanks for flying me to Dublin in 2015 Ryanair!!!

Ripping off and extra charges are completely different. Ripping off implies extortionate prices. The cost of an online check in is £5. Hardly extortionate is it? It is well known that the credit card fee can be avoided by using visa electron. If you use this, then it is free. You can get a visa electron account free of charge on the internet and it takes just minutes to set up. So the "rip off" you're talking about clearly amounts to just the online check in charge of £5

No doubt this booking for today or tomorrow? Either way I just did a quick comparison myself. I don't know what airport you're flying from. I did from Dublin (where I live) for tomorrow (next available date). Ryanair with one bag (which is what I'd use) incl taxes, check in and CC: €253.36. Iberia: €283. Sooo I don't see anything extortinate there. And yes, that was the first and only comparison I did.I didnt search for a cheaper one.Ryanair has brought real competition to the airline industry

Hmm....if it is not a tactic Mark, then why not simply tell people up front what the total cost of the ticket is likely to be? Why advertise one price when they know that the final cost bears little or no comparison? That is, in plain English, deceptive. Vis a vis the Iberia flight, I chose days at random starting nine days from today and coming back a week later. I made no attempt to filter the data in order to be fair. Hmm, and Girona is not, and never will be, Barcelona!

Whatever it takes to stop Stansted from setting this costly precedent!

Best news I have heard in ages! If we can rid this country of villains such as this so much the better. Hopefully Ryanair will leave the UK altogether and rip off people from somewhere else.

They clearly aren't obtaining money by deception. It's only by deception if you're unaware exactly what you're paying for. They give you a full detailed list of exactly what you're paying for before you pay. I don't think it's reasonable to pay for check in, no. But it's not a rip off. And often with this fee included Ryanair is still cheaper. You might claim that their advertising is misleading, but their so-called "tactics" have been well publicised over the years by many people.

Oh Mark, Mark....where shall I start? How about getting people to book in for them, thus saving them time and money, and then charging them for the privilege, not once but for each leg of the journey and for each person. Or maybe the credit card charge.....again we have just the one transaction but somehow Ryanair feel justified in charging you for every person for every leg of the journey. This is indeed what is known colloquial as 'ripping off'.

"Rip off"? Ryanair is possibly the cheapest airline in the UK. I don't see how exactly they're ripping off people.

@allboeing no true chocolate is 1 euro handeling fee is 5 not 30! and you can get a mastercard prepaid and pay no charge and the online check in fee in not always charged all incorect

It does depend, as you rightly say Mark, on one's definition of 'ripping off'. If you don't like that phrase would 'obtaining money by deception' be more suitable? Or perhaps 'misleading advertising' would be more appropriate? These are common tactics for this awful company. As for the checking in fee....you think it is reasonable that you do their work for them and then you pay for the privilege? Hmmm.....

Excellent idea! Remove taxes for Ryanair so that they can charge their customers insane fees for crazy things such as... paying them. As far as I am concerned, Ryanair does not exist. Such an unethical airline...
