You asked why an elephant is the mascot of the Athletics. It started as a practical joke some A's players played on Connie Mack. He lived near Shibe Park, and one day, a group of players decided to play a joke on their manager. The circus was in town, so some of the players convinced the elephant wrangler to "loan" them a baby elephant. They put the pachyderm in Mack's back yard, and when he discovered the animal, Mack was extremely amused. To show that he was not upset, he had elephant patches sewn on the players uniforms, and the elephant was forever after the symbol of the Athletics.
Different theories.. Giants manager called connie Mack's team "white elephants". So he adopted the animal
Junction Jack is the old Astros mascot. In between the original Orbit and the new version of orbit. Too over when they moved to minute maid and have the train.

@Taylor Copeland That is not true. Junction Jack was a mascot from 2000 to 2012. 2012, was hardly...40 years ago. More like 7 years ago. Furthermore...Orbit was a mascot for the Astros at least as far back as 1990. Then, when the Astros left the Astrodome, in 2000, and set up shop at Minute Maid Park, (called Enron Field at the time), Orbit was retired, and Junction Jack was brought on board. Only to have Orbit resurrected, in the last few years. But no...hardly has it been 40 years years since Junction Jack. Not even close to being correct information.

The elephant for the A’s goes back to the Philadelphia A’s back in the 1920s. The team was so bad that when they were sold the manager said the new owner got a white elephant.

The A's are an elephant because during the old war between the AL and NL, John McGraw refused to face the "minor league" winner and named his NY Giants 'World's Champions" and called the Athletics "those white elephants" Connie Mack liked it and to push back on McGraw made the Athletics mascot the white elephant

TC Bear must have been introduced 23 years ago. I went to a double header where the Twins wore Senator throwback uniforms.
