My favorite Weber album is The Following Morning. It's the most haunting album I've ever listened to and when I rediscovered it after 30 years again, it still moved me.

I thought that I was the only one in the world that liked that album. I discovered TFM when I was 14 years old (in1978) and re-shaped my concept of music. Still is THE album I need when want peace and still every time I listen to it takes me to another dimension. Thanks Eberhard!!

Metheny wrote the chart that he plays on??? That’s interesting if true. Not many examples of him writing horn charts.
I once heard Pat speaking of necrophilia when Kenny G was dubbing and old Armstrong track. Regardless the quality of this Jubilee he's now standing somewhere close to the ethical edge 😂

Why is there this "Eberhard" by Pat, and now another one posthumous by Lyle, with no apparent relation between both, except by the same title??
And so little talk about Mays in the recent Metheny's interview with Rick Beato... I'm having little trouble here
Both pieces have very different histories and timelines. Lyle's piece was written for a certain appearance at some festival around 2009. He choose to record it in 2019, his illness being a possible motivator for that (in order to preserve the music in recorded form). The Metheny piece is in light of Eberhard's 75th birthday.
It makes sense that they are two distinct pieces with no relationship given their different trajectories. But what seems a more valid point is why Lyle was not included in this particular project. There could be many reasons for that, we will probably never know. I believe Rodby wrote in the linernotes for Eberhard that Lyle had more music lying around to be recorded, but just didn't got the time left to do it.
The Beato interview was interesting but even with it's almost 2 hour length, it barely scratched any surface. Rick just didn't ask much about Lyle, probably because he is more interested in discussing Metheny's actual playing and had to make choices what could be discussed within the relatively short time frame he had. There was no discussion about the Way Up either (for example) even though that might have been of interest, also given that Beato likes to analyse stuff and goes more in depth in music theory. There is many things which were not touched up on, even things Metheny himself said he would get back to later in the interview (like discussing Song X). That's unfortunately just how these things work. On the other hand, it leaves space for more interviews.
The "problem" with Metheny and Mays is that Pat Metheny is the star and Mays kind of the sideman. Pat and Lyle were equally important for the result of whatever the PMG resulted in, but even without the PMG, Pat has a long lasting diverse career and is highly prolific in his output. The PMG "only" makes up 1/3rd of Pat's output so to say, meaning there is still 2/3rds where Mays has no involvement. Given that Mays basically retired after The Way Up and we are 16 years further down the road, Lyle is not really center stage/top of mind anymore in interviews and other media programmes.

Was this project accomplished by the musicians overdubbing parts over preexisting bass lines/parts the Eberhard had previously recorded?
Hi, it worked like this: Pat Metheny took a lot of bass solos that Eberhard recorded and that were on video. He then wrote the 30 minute piece around that. During the performance the videos were on a big screen and the sound was mixed live into the music, all musicians had a click, and so it appeared as if Eberhard was playing with the orchestra, which he in a way was...
