    The chairman Peter Swann should have simply replied, "I put millions into the club, its my club and therefore I make the decisions..." When Jeff Stelling puts the same amount into Scunthorpe as Peter and when he owns the club then he can decide how long a manager gets. The chairman pays the bills, keeps the club going and has invested a lot, so I think he's entitled to sack whoever he wants. Just my opinion.

    • @Adfamere09
      @Adfamere09 10 лет назад +13

      *****
      Sponsorship at that level and for a club of Scunthorpe's size nowhere near pays the bills. If that was the case then the chairman wouldn't need to invest millions every year just to loose money continually at the end of every season. Which nearly every club does at that level.

      That's fucking modern football shit, chairman shouldn't decide a shit about that. It's the fans decision what they thinks

    • @YGriffiny
      @YGriffiny 10 лет назад +2

      PURE162 To be fair, it was the fans' decision. 85% polled wanted Russ to go. Stelling is part of the modern football shit. It wasn't just based on 2 months either. Scunthorpe should have walked the title last year, Russ played negatively and despite the chairman's backing, threw the title away. World record or no world record, people never forgave him for missing out on the title and playing such bad football in the process.

      No, Mark Robins' job is to keep us in League 1.....under Wilcox, there's no way that would have happened. The football we've been playing has been embarassing, really dreadful stuff and the squad we have shouldn't be second bottom, even though we do have a few injuries. There's been heavy investment over the last year or so and we should be doing better.
      I'm sure people will say "he went 28 games unbeaten last year", yes he did, but 14 of those were draws, we threw away 34 points from winning positions last season and 17 of those points were after the 86th minute. It's very frustrating when you're watching a game and you know it's inevitable that you're going to concede in the last few minutes.
      Jeff doesn't know what he's talking about, as he stated in the article he wrote, why highlight us if that's the case? Why not go after a Premier League or Championship club?

  • @JC-ko1bp
    @JC-ko1bp 4 года назад +8

    it wasnt harsh, the team were abysmal. that "undefeated record" was made up of so many dropped points and draws where we should have won......28 games unbeaten, but 14 of those were draws, we threw away 34 points from winning positions and 17 of those points were after the 86th minute.
    the football was shocking, the squad were capable of far more. it may have seemed like a great season on paper, including getting promotion. but the standard of football compared to the squad was horrendous.

      erosion271 Very few Scunny fans were calling for him out, apart from one game where I believe you left Madden on the bench and put a centre half up front.
      Simple fact is all managers need time, and especially if that manager had over 40% win percentage the season before, then they deserve a bit of loyalty.

    I like how a lot of none Scunthorpe fans care enough to comment and say shit about Peter's decision at the time. It was the correct one we were bloody lucky to go up from L2 even though we were unbeaten for 28 games. A big majority of them were draws after taking the lead. The tactics were utter terrible and it continued at the start of that season. YOU didn't have to watch the utter terrible style of football like how us Scunny fans did.Appointing Mark Robins at this time was correct to stay up in L1 he is that sort of manager who can drag clubs out of trouble. He sadly wasn't going to be able to make the push for the next level as the 5-0 hammering at Oyston FC showed. The end to this season was remarkable missed out on the playoffs on GD and at the end of the day the club's ambition is to try and get back to The Championship and what's wrong with a bit of ambition hey? The future is looking good and we have now got a decent squad in place and belief that we can push again for the coming season. UTI

    At the end of the day,Peter Swann has invested alot of his own money into our club. You will not find one supporter speaking out against him as he has been a breath of fresh air since taking over. We have been used to having a chairman who hardly invested his own money into the club other than to give loans at a slightly lower interest rate than an overdraft would cost.
    We have sold players over the last few years for big money with none or very little of it being re-invested back into the playing side.
    Yes we went unbeaten last season for 28 games but on the back of that came a more defensive style of play that was so boring to watch.
    The chairman is a supporter. He, like us, wants to see exciting attacking football that will contribute to bringing the stay away fans back. Promotion last year was the most underwhelming achievement due to the way we played. We should have sewn it up by the end of march with the team we had but with a negative tactician as a manager that was never going to happen. Good luck Mark Robins. In Peter we trust. Up The Iron

      The unbeaten run was a distraction from the real situation.
      We were going 1-0, 2-0, even 3-0 up in games, and throwing nearly every single one away in the second half. We drew the MAJORITY of the 28 unbeaten games, and have actually only won 4 in our last 20 prior to the Gillingham match earlier today.
      Russ' tactics were negative, we'd sit deep and inviter pressure, every single time. He didn't learn from these mistakes, and it carried on into this season.

    A long time ago now, the new stadium never came, and Swann lost money gambling...sold the club eventually after demotion to national league north

      because he didnt wanna bad mouth his mate.
      the reason was.
      unbeaten in 28 games yes.... but we drew 14, we didnt win as many of those 28 games as we did win. we dropped 34 points from winning positions, we dropped 17 points after the 86th minute.... we played horrific football and the squad was far better than the results.
      at the time of the sacking we'd won 4 in the last 20 and were sitting 2nd to bottom, destined to be relegated.
      the fans wanted the manager out LONG before he was sacked.
      even the promotion season was abysmal and not what you'd expect. the football on display was appalling and it was just lucky the rest of the league were terrible

    I personally agree with the decision peter made and I know every scunthorpe fan i've talked to agrees with the decison he has made, we were all expecting a better start to the season

    Here we are 2020, still sacking managers, down in lower league two yet looking to spend £5m on a new stadium not the squad. He was honest saying he's a businessman running a business, at no point though did he show any affection for the club
